If you don't care about representations of women in movies, then my review probably doesn't pertain to you. The very low opinion of women that the people who produced this movie have is egregious and apparent throughout (dialogue, etc.). Whedon-esque putting-an-untouchable-woman-on-a-pedestal ensues but this movie actually takes it a step further by neutering the female lead completely. She goes along with whatever the abysmally mediocre American dude says and it's ridiculous. She's been alive for a millennia or so and she gives up her immortality to this incredibly average white dude who basically spent the night coercing her to do it. I guess dreams do come true. Feminism aside, this movie tries too hard to impress you with its own perceived intellect.

Desperate dude flees a strange land and ends up with a strange sexpot. Lots to praise. The dialogue is very good, especially when the two leads are getting together, with good acting. And it's shot nicely in beautiful Italian locations, although the tone is dull. But it doesn't hang together. The sequence with the English tourists is throwaway, and as the coils of the plot tighten around the actors' throats you can sense their professional eyes bulging in terror at the silliness of what the directors are forcing on them. By that point the dialogue really is stumbling, with a long stretch of bogus exposition, and I heard the phrase, "inbred paedophile" drop to the floor with a clang. Sometimes it's an adventure romance, sometimes a comedy horror, and the backdrop is Cthulu with some mild sex thrown in. The music is grim, then it perks up - confusing. Plus 109 mins? Misconceived effort to bring a monstrous birth to the world's light.

So, you're scrolling through IMDb top 250 looking for something. It doesn't have to be an awesome blockbuster or a life-changing experience. BUT you do want to see something decent. This is your movie. If you are looking for that run of the mill hack and slash horror movie(including flying heads and such) keep looking. But, if, like me, your looking for that tiny jewel you just so happened to miss, you've just hit the jackpot. The beginning of the movie is raw and slow. But not too raw or slow. However, slow and raw enough that pop-corn munching blockbuster- loving idiots will be bored. Movies that start like this can develop in works that make you feel like hell for 2 hours and then leave you with nothing. So, I started doubting whether this movie was going to be too much "slice of life". But then... You are rewarded for putting up with harsh reality. When the main characters are introduced to each other this movie changes. The dialogue is fascinating. The plot is introduced quickly yet gently, and completely sucks you in. You're on a creepy ride which you think might break down at any moment...But it doesn't. The movie really keeps momentum and leaves you with a satisfying experience. The characters are fleshed out well and the "horror" part eases in smoothly. All in all, I would watch this movie again just to see my loved ones react to it. Watch this movie, and be positively surprised, you have just found yourself a little gem.

I rated it 5 stars, don't ask me why, maybe the fact that the other users were all positive drove me a little to it, maybe it did keep me interested for a while, but overall, maybe slightly over 4 stars should be enough. I had my share of such horror productions, Honeymoon or The canal and I got to say: just not my coup of tea. And boy do I love horror but this type, this type right here, moves too slow, heads almost nowhere and every time I decide to give one a chance, I always end up disappointed. Now this is just a personal thing, some of us don't like the oldies, or zombies, I for one dislike the real real slow burners with almost no real conclusion. Don't get me wrong, movies like Session 9, The pact, The caller, those made such a good impression but I do believe there is a strong difference between those I just mentioned and Spring. This isn't something I would recommend normally, but also I would like to state out once again, that I may not be the best person to talk about it. So, if you're into a movie that is more romance and sight seeing, maybe it will work out better for you. Cheers!

I saw this on a dvd recently. Wasnt keen on watching this. Firstly, it is not a horror film n fans of the horror genre will b disappointed. There is too much chatting between characters but there was something which made me complete the film in one sitting n although as a horror fan i got cheated into seeing this, i cannot dismiss this as a bad film. This film falls perfectly in the Lovecraftian horror genre. Has elements of science fiction, romance, mythos n fate. The acting by the two leads was surprisingly very good n both the characters were likeable. The only drawback is u dont get to see the monster in its full form but thats not the point of the film. Also noteworthy are some beautifully shot scenes. The ending scene was beautifully done with beautiful settings. To b honest, i dont like such films n will not watch these kinda films. One of my online pal convinced me into seeing this. Definitely it is a very good film but not my taste.

A hidden gem and easily one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The acting, writing and directing are all seamless. I admit there were moments, such as when our poor protagonist reacts to the truth about his girlfriend, which stretched the bounds of plausibility, but aside from those few scenes the film was incredibly real and fresh throughout. The film's brand of dry, intelligent humor was a lovely surprise. I buckled in for a thriller and found myself laughing many times instead. I also highly commend the snippets of philosophy, morality, mortality, religion and science which were sprinkled throughout the film and delivered with just the right amount of wit and depth by both actors. It really is a wonderful blend of romance and sci-fi, and this is coming from someone who loves sci-fi and has a pathological fear of chick flicks. I highly recommend it.
