With a combination of EVERYTHING BAD ABOUT MOVIES, including a combination of bizarre acting styles by the same performers during the same scenes, this huge POC is not worth the time it takes to load into your movie player. It is truly a seemingly never-ending nightmare that I wish would have been over before I watched it. How could anyone take every potentially exciting aspect of film and convert each one into something so BORING? The face shots (900 millisecond film time) of Janeane Garofalo in the final scene was the best part of this POS, but her facial expressions say it all about this disaster ("Hopeless"). If you can, try to imagine yourself a really, really stupid person and suspend all ability to think for the duration of this sludge and you might get through it. The only reason I can think this waste of pixel memory received a rating higher than a "2" is that all the cast and crew were offered tiny shares of total profit and told to go online to vote it up.

This movie is one of those movies HATE IT or LOVE IT! This is Richard Kelly's version of the end of the world! I found it very interesting...I saw it like 3 times or so and every time I learned something new I didn't noticed before and I bet that if I see it again, I will notice more things I've been missing! This is a very symbolic movie...for you to understand what is happening...ull have to hear what the characters say and do...then u will now who is each one! The acting is good...and yes...surprisingly Sarah Michelle Guellar does a good performance here! Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Sean William Scott does excellent jobs here too! Watch it and judge for yourself...My opinion 10/10! Enjoy!

Southland Tales is not a futuristic apocalypse. In fact, it takes place in the past: 2008. It is a cautionary tale of what could very possibly happen in our country. At first i was skeptical about this movie as it stars many celebrities that I usually dislike, but the players played their roles adequately and I was able to suspend my disbelief and enjoy being entertained. Southland Tales is also an action film, which is a genre that I don't usually enjoy. The only reason I saw this film was because Richard Kelley directed it and I enjoyed Donnie Darko (especially the director's cut). All in all, this film was entertaining, but not great. It definitely beats Transformers and movies like that that have been coming out in the last year or so. However, it's no Donnie Darko and if you're coming into it looking for a film of Darko caliber you'll be disappointed.

Richard Kelly's sophomore effort and sophomoric epic Southland Tales is quite simply one of the most pretentious, self-indulgent, incoherent pieces of excrement that has or will probably ever hit the big screen. It's truly an awful film with no coherent plot, poor special effects, acting ranging between below average to god awful, dialog which often times makes little sense, scenes edited together with no logical relation, and a running time that drags in about forty-five minutes. Even some of the actors said they didn't understand what the story was about. The most entertaining aspects of this garbage are the many film buff in-jokes and literary references peppered throughout the film for no reason besides stroking the ego of its director. Richard Kelly is possibly the Michael Cimino of the new millennium. 0 of 4 stars.

Very few modern movies are original, especially ones coming out of Hollywood. And considering we live in a sort of post-consumer media culture it's not really surprising that the system , so to speak, is desperate to protect it's bottom line.
This movie, well, it's not really interested in any of that.
After the bizarre first 10 minutes you should know whether or not the movie is for you; it was for me.
If you like things like Cronenberg, give this a shot... yes the ending is a bit, "now what do I do," but overall it's extremely entertaining, and out there in a "They Live" kind of way.
And if you like it, it has the power to stick with you, and make you want to recommend it to people, until you start trying to explain what it's actually all about.

This was the worse movie I have seen in a long time! I figured with top names like these it would be great. I sat thru 40 minutes and left. I wanted a refund! What were these guys thinking? I am a big Tarantino fan and I still couldn't sit thru this mess. It will definitely make me think twice about going to a movie that has a lot of big names before I ask around. I am surprised it didn't win the top Razzie award.I definitely will not waste my money on the DVD. What surprises me the most is that some company actually went thru the trouble of paying these actors and filming this. Must of needed a tax write-off in the loss column.

The film lost me in the first minute. The sleepy narration saw snores in the special screening. I never thought I'd see a dystopian film this hopeless. 144 minutes and it was disturbing on many levels. Highly ambitious writing killed the film. This was one of the less entertaining dark comedies and I can just say, the film has a poor star cast. Dwayne Johnson and Sarah Michelle Gellar try their best to fit, but they seem lost most of the time. Mandy Moore?? Really!! And what is Sean William Scott doing in such a film? He's a cool and funny guy. Steve Stifler is not the suitable choice for such a film.
Southland Tales is awful and those 144 minutes are something you'll never get back. Avoid the film at all costs.

A plot that is scatter-shot.
Characters that appear to have floated in from sketch comedy.
Jon Lovitz doing Dirty Harry. Will Stasso doing a tough guy.
A Big Libowski tribute with Justin Timberlake mouthing the words to The Killers' All These Things That I've Done, supported by a chorus line of high kicking pretty girls in a video arcade.
The best use of The Pixies' Wave Of Mutilation since Pump Up The Volume.
"Pimps don't commit suicide."
"Have a nice apocalypse." If you have read every silly thing that I have just written, scratched your head and said "This guy (fill in your favorite slander)" then you probably will not like this film. And I am okay with that...
If, however, you read it and said "Oh, MY...", then I would suggest that you at least sit though it once.
Good luck with the once.

I went to see this tonight and walked out of the theater after 50 minutes. I tried to be patient with it, since I was a fan of Donnie Darko and was hoping that this would be the same kind of caliber film. After watching it though, it made me even think poorly about Donnie Darko. I couldn't take it anymore. I've sat through some bad movies in the past, but nothing ever warranted me walking out after paying $12 to see a film. The story, the execution and the acting were of the worst caliber I've ever witnessed. Whenever you thought it couldn't get any worse, it continues to get worse. It's the kind of movie where I'd judge people harshly for even thinking it was an okay movie. Some of my friends stayed to watch it until the end, but they told me it actually just kept getting worse. It ruined our evening and hung a negative cloud over our heads all night. Do NOT see this film. Terrible.
