Son of Godzilla is one of those weird movies which inspire strange feelings. The story is unique, no Godzilla doing his typical destruction. The story centers on the very human relationship between Godzilla and his son, Minya. This movie really touched me on this level. Some scenes really stick in my mind. The great scene with Godzilla teaching Minya how to shoot radioactive fire comes to mind. There is a real bond that comes out. When Minya is confronted with a monster, i.e. a bully, Godzilla makes Minya fight his own battle but is always there to back up his son.
Godzilla protects Minya and teaches him lessons; and in one of the climactic scenes, the son fights for his father's life; this is poignant. The scene at the end of the film in which father and son embrace to huddle from the cold is touching. If you divorce this from the typical Godzilla movie, what you are left with is a movie about a very close bond between father and son. I think I'm probably the only one who appreciates this movie on this deep a level.
One question: What Hollywood movie has a positive view of a father and son relationship?--- This movie made me very emotional, go figure. In short, if you want to see a typical camp Godzilla, look elsewhere. If you want to see something with emotional content; see this movie

This movie features Godzilla's son, which is exactly what you'd expect to see. I believe the son is referred to as Minya. The main problem with this film is that it seems disorganized. While most Godzilla movies have the flaw of focusing too much on the humans, I'm thinking this one had the problem of focusing too much on the monsters. Minya is pretty annoying and doesn't even look much like a baby Godzilla. This features them fighting giant praying mantises on an island. That's more or less the whole plot of the movie.
I suppose the special effects aren't any worse than any of the other movies. This was just weird because it was too cutesy. It really does make me think back to the classic Godzilla film and realize how low the series has gotten. I guess it is nice to see more emphasis being placed on the actual monsters, but it's not very rewarding. I think Leonard Maltin summed it up best when he asked where Mrs. Godzilla was when you really needed her. Did Godzilla reproduce asexually? **

A team of scientists experiment with the weather on an uninhabited tropical island. They accidentally create a trio of nasty giant praying mantises. Meanwhile, Godzilla arrives on the island to take care of a baby Godzilla who hatches from a huge egg. Director Jun Fukuda maintains a constant quick pace and ably creates an infectiously light and breezy tone. The monster fight scenes are vigorous and exciting, but it's the moments where Godzilla shows his grouchy, yet protective and supportive paternalistic side which make this picture a total hoot to watch. The scenes between Godzilla and his son Minya are genuinely sweet, funny and touching; the most endearing sequence occurs when Godzilla shows the cute little tyke the basic beastly behemoth ropes on how to roar and spit fire. Plus, the gentle and clumsy Minya is simply adorable. Moreover, the human characters are a likable bunch, with nice performances by Akira Kubo as meddlesome freelance reporter Goro Maki, the gorgeous Bibari Maeda as feisty jungle girl Saeko, Tadao Takashima as the determined Dr. Kusumi, and Yoshio Tsuchiya as the hot-tempered Furukawa. Kazou Yamada's bright, crisp cinematography and Masaru Sato's bouncy, stirring score are both solid and effective. The special effects tend to be rather chintzy, but that only adds to this film's considerable goofy charm. And the ending with Godzilla and Minya is just lovely.

Son Of Godzilla was the WORST film in the Godzilla franchise. Godzilla in this movie didn't look like a monster at all, he really looked like a guy wearing a monster suit that had a ridiculous face. His face looked like crap to be honest. Kamacuras were the worst monster bugs I ever saw. I remembered when I was little, I didn't like the scene where some Kamacuras broke the Godzilla egg and stated to attack his baby, that was the worst scene of the movie. The soundtrack in this film didn't really feel like a monster movie, it sounded too embarrassing to be a Godzilla movie, they should've done better than that. The way they ended the story was terrible. The fight scenes were too silly including the last battle with the giant spider. This movie disappointed the Godzilla fans and not in a good way. It's not a good story for children, in my opinion. And it didn't have heart like some of the other Godzilla movies.

Despite being enjoyable films, the last two Godzilla installments had not matched the success of Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster (1964) and had fallen below expectations at the box office. In an effort to boost audience attendance, Toho Studios made the decision to soften the king of the monsters and give him a cute baby son. The first Godzilla film to be geared directly towards children, Son of Godzilla (1967) is harmless fun and sweet - the cinematic equivalent of a gum drop. Alas, the film proved to be the most poorly attended Godzilla film yet. Either Toho's kiddie approach had backfired or the film just couldn't compete with the rising popularity of television.
Son of Godzilla (1967) shouldn't be the first Godzilla movie you see, or even the second or third. With the Godzilla suit from Invasion of the Astro Monster (1965) torn and frayed, a new one was constructed. Unfortunately, it is one of the most poorly designed suits in the series - bulky legs, large doll-like eyes, and a toad's head. However, it is arguably better than the one audiences would behold six years later in Godzilla vs. Megalon. If you have small children and want to introduce them to kaiju films, I recommend Son of Godzilla.

The beast Godzilla movie is the remake from 1998. Maybe you don't think so that's OK. But if your really mad about it come down you pooh pooh heads. This is a very good movie. It's the 8th Godzilla movie. It's not as good as the 1st Godzilla movie Godzilla King of the monsters. The 16th Godzilla movie The return of Godzilla. Part 24 to the Japan Godzilla sires Godzilla vs M.e.g.a.g.u.i.r.u.s is also better. But this is still a very good movie . See it. Some people are stuck on an island with giant monsters. Very scary. Great monster movie. See it see it see it. Great movie great movie great movie. It is very entertaining. Part 25 to the Japan series is Godzilla M.o.t.h.r.a and King G.h.i.d.o.r.a.h giant monsters on an all out attack. That one is better. The remake form 2014 is also better. But still a very good movie see it.

Son of Godzilla is one of those Godzilla movies that you will probably not forget because of what happens in it.
A group of scientists are on a tropical island. They conduct weather tests that create a terrible storm. Later on the scientists discover that there are giant praying mantises on the island. These mantises come across a large egg that hatches into a little godzilla. GOdzilla comes and saves the little godzilla from the giant mantis. Later the scientists find an island girl who helps them to know about the island and lets them live in her cave, which is cooler. SHe also warns them about a giant spider monster. Godzilla starts to train the younger godzilla to roar and breathe radioactive fire. Scientists then decide to start an experiment to make it snow on the island.
This is a pretty good Godzilla film. THere are always flaws in a godzilla film and this one has its fair share.
For one, the monsters that Godzilla fights in this film are not all that impressive. They are just giant insects, Kamakerus is the giant praying mantis and Kumonga is the giant spider. I just never was a fan of all of the giant insect monsters that Godzilla fought.
Also this is one of the worst costumes for Godzilla, head wise that is. He looks kind of like Homer Simpson in that he has huge eyes and a tall head. The rest of the Godzilla suit is OK though. I guess they wanted to make this Godzilla seem less menacing and more parent like.
Now for the good things. I actually like how Godzilla is an adoptive parent. Him coming to Minyas'(little Godzilla who is never called this in this movie but that is his name) rescue against Kamakerus is one of the coolest scenes ever in Godzilla history.
Godzilla seems to be a good adoptive parent. He teaches Minya how to breathe radioactive fire and gives Minya good encouragement when he does well. Also there is that touching Godzilla scene at the end of the film when Godzilla helps minya up from the snow and hugs him to protect him from the snow. A rare heart touching moment in a Godzilla Film.
GOdzilla, while being an effective parent, is not a good guy in this film. He destroys the scientists camp and the only good he really does is rescue Minya.
Minya is often bad mouthed for being a lame character. I do agree that he does a lot of clutsy stuff and only breathes smoke rings at the beginning. However Minya does come to the rescue of Godzilla and does develop into a better character by the end of the film. Minya also learns from Godzilla quite well, at times he just shoots smoke rings at other times he succeeds at breathing radioactive fire.
THe monster fights are good. Minya seems in over his head but he is able to combine with GOdzilla's strength to form an effective duo.
So this is a really good Godzilla Film. The opponents of Godzilla are not all that but the father son relationship worked quite well in this film. Go and see it.

Yes, this is a juvenile Godzilla film in many ways. Yes, the baby Godzilla is goofy. But you know what? I like this monster movie! It's entertaining, fun, and also very heartwarming whenever we get to see Godzilla taking the little guy Minya under his wing (Godzilla's always been more of a "surrogate" dad rather than an organic one in my view).
A group of scientists are conducting intense weather experiments on a remote island that just so happens to be inhabited by giant praying mantises, a giant spider that spins deadly webs, and a large egg that hatches to produce a "little Godzilla". The Big G gets to teach Minya all about breathing fire, stomping enemies, and also some quality father and son bonding (awww).
Those who don't like Godzilla movies very much are advised to stay away; even some die-hard fans don't care for the sentiment expressed in this entry. There is still a lot of steady monster action on hand, a good pairing between a young visiting reporter and a pretty island girl, and a truly touching ending that nearly brings a tear to my eye every time I see it. *** out of ****
