Stan Laurel stars as a tramp, "a fierce, fiery, fearless, two-fisted loafer." Trouble announces itself as a plate loaded with doughnuts on a windowsill. The farmer's daughter takes pity on him and Stan falls in love. Before the end there will be tears, broken dishes and more doughnuts.

Stan without Hardy. He plays a tramp who along with Max Asher gets the smells of donuts from the farmer's house. They try to break into the house. Luckily for him, the lovely farmer's daughter invites him for tea and tells him to help himself to the donuts. Stan is tempted to help himself to the contents of the safe. However the safe contains the next mortgage instalment and it is robbed in the night. Stan gives chase but is distracted and the thief gets away. Stan has a cunning plan to get the money. He hopes his endeavours will win the farmer's daughters heart. Somewhere in Wrong has a lot of silliness and a flimsy narrative. The farmer's daughter is really kind hearted to invite a tramp for tea. She even points towards the safe. The way Stan gets the money to pay off the mortgage instalment was well done. This is really for fans of Stan Laurel. He is younger and going for the tramp persona popularised by Charlie Chaplin.

In the decade before Laurel and Hardy became a team, Stan Laurel was a very busy comedy actor--appearing in tons of short films. However, few of the remaining films of this era are all that special--and most are pretty forgettable comedies (there are definite exceptions). SOMEWHERE IN WRONG is about average for Laurel and is in no way dull or offensive though some might find the story line a bit schmaltzy (too sentimental). There are a few good laughs and it's better paced than many of his solo films. There's a lot of the usual tramp hi-jinx and in the end, Stan is left broken-hearted because a pretty young girl chooses another. My advice is to first find and watch every Laurel and Hardy film you can. Then and only then see these earlier films. DR. PYCKLE AND MR. PRYDE and a few others are great, but the vast majority are less than inspiring.
