I hate when a poorly made new and unnecessary film re-make pushes a superior original into the shadows. The Olivier original is in the Amazon Top 250 Films of All-Time....and yet try to find a copy of it on DVD AT A REASONABLE PRICE. Hopefully, someone will at Amazon will realize that the DVD isn't priced correctly and then the demand will result in a re-release of this DVD! How do we get Amazon to revise their prices? I see this happens sometimes with books on Amazon, but this is the first DVD I've wanted that's been affected by these computer glitches. Is there a CONTACT AMAZON or a complaint center we can refer this to? Please advise them if you know how...Until then, I'll just be patiently waiting for the price to come down on the DVDs of the original version.

Officially version,is not remake of the original British cult movie(trivia section says) For me the first half of the film was very entertaining, the second half had too much little details that finally does not change the situation as originally the creators wanted. The acting is the main thing in this movie, without a doubt this is the actors movie. Against Jude Law is a famous actor, and against Michael Cain is a living legend,I only watched this cause I know the original was,and is on top 250-movies of the famous IMDb-top 250-list,there are only a few really memorable sentences, the movie this time fortunately is not too long, directly shocking ending. I hope I will get the chance to see the original. 6/10-as rental,if you have a reason to see this.

And I watch them almost every day. And that one was really wonderful. In the beginning I liked dialogs so much. And I have only a small worry. If the could do so good till the end. But it was really a big fun all the time. And I've was a bit surprised, that this movie has so low rating, because for me it's modern masterpiece. I'm really not a big fan of Jude Law. My wife is but I really enjoyed his play and of course Michael Caine. Another thing I've liked in this movie, that it's completely unpredictable, of course if you don't know original scenario. But even if you know, the dialogs themselves are unpredictable. Every second you just wait, what they say next. Almost every sentence is as clever as full of dark humor. When I've watched old version after it, it was mostly boring for me. I think thats just two different generations films.

Quite fair version of the 1972 original film, which is based on a play for the theatre. While the former edition is very two-dimensional and quite simply adapted from the stage presence, this version lands in Hollywood, amid very lavish, modern interior decorating; I feel the intense, almost claustrophobic feeling from the old film is somewhat removed here. Still, it is a film where two men battle it out as an older man (played by Michael Caine, now playing Laurence Olivier's character in the old film) invites his wife's lover (Jude Law) over for a chat. While it is truly a battle of wits, I cannot help but think that both actors and the director (Kenneth Branagh) could have done better. All in all: while a good watch - mostly due to Harold Pinter's screenplay - I highly recommend the old version, which is very well made in all aspects.

Chamber film with 2 magnificent actors. I love this genre of cinema very much, as here it is best to see what acting the actor possesses. And Jude Law shows itself perfectly, the same can be said about the game Michael Caine. Unfortunately, the story itself is trivial, the decorations of the house in which the action itself takes place are also not surprising. The film should be watched by fans of actors or the genre of chamber cinema.

It's a pretty story, that explores cultural values exemplifying generation and class tensions. Director Kenneth Branagh chose an original blue-lit set with leather furnishings and rendered a very strange atmosphere, dialogs, pauses; colloquialism and tones seem a lot the ones of a play, of course the result is something weird but it makes sense eventually. Michael Caine and Jude Law try their hands at something really original (the first had been part in the 1972 movie) with acceptable results, both their characters are suitable for the background and the setting Branagh conceived is bizarre and eccentric but really appropriate.

In a remake from the 1972 original, "Sleuth" stars two of cinema's geniuses...Michael Caine and Jude Law, as two men who are in love with the same woman. Famous author Andrew (Caine) lives in a state-of-the-art house, and is married to Maggie, the woman in question. He invites Milo (Law) over, and the two discuss matters of life, love, and ultimately Maggie. As the conversation escalates, and the games begin to play, the two find themselves in a struggle for sanity, and survival. Some people don't like this film because it's too 'bland' or 'predictable,' but I found it anything but. Caine and Law light up the screen and their chemistry was extraordinary. And I also found it interesting that they have such civilized conversations even though Milo slept with Andrew's wife. I know for sure such conversations would NEVER go on in America (just watch an episode of "Jerry Springer" and you'll see my point).

Harold Pinter wrote the screenplay and he, like George Romero with "Diary of the Dead," takes advantage of today's technological wizardry, from surveillance cameras to cell phones. Set in a country manor devoid of chintz or shabby chic, "Sleuth" enlists glass, mirrors, cool colors with the occasional pop of yellow or red and ultra-modern design to tell its story. In these days of Internet spoilers, it will be interesting to see if the movie's secrets stay that way. And while it initially seems as if "Sleuth" is Caine's movie, Law snatches it back and then yields it to his co-star. Back and forth they go. They compare their gamesmanship to a tennis match and that's exactly what it is, with both at Wimbledon levels.

i personally found this movie terrible!!!! its that bad that it made me register on IMDb so that i can tell all of you not to waste you time watching it!! i thought it was rubbish acting that made me cringe (and i love Jude law to bits)! it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense and has no point. why don't you just kill each other to begin with instead of faffing around. both my mother and i towards the end of the movie thought the ending was going to be a joke and that it was just 2 gay guys having a laugh on the weekend lol !!!!! anyhoo highly not recommended unless you want to die of boredom !!!! much luv xoxo
