This is easily one of the better After Dark Horrorfest films yet it is rated abysmally low on a scale of 1 out of 10. I don't get horror fans, and I'm the biggest horror fan I know. I've watched the worst of the worst and the best of the best. I don't like every film I watch, but I know the difference between a horror film that should be rated a 1-4 or one that should be rated a 5-8, and this one is definitely above a 5. When you watch enough really bad horror films, you know how to pick out the better ones. I've read many of the reasons this film is hated and I don't understand any of them. The acting is not bad at all. If it is the depressing ending that bothers you, then I say quit watching horror films! Or at the very least stick to the PG-13 rated ones because you obviously cannot handle anything above that. I'm not going to give anything away, as it has already been given away on here enough. If you like After Dark Horrorfest films and don't always need a happy ending to like a movie, then watch SLAUGHTER.

Faith (Shiels) has gone into hiding due to an obsessive and abusive boyfriend (Daniels). She meets a Farm girl named Lola (Holt) in a club and takes her offer to stay with her on the family farm over the summer. Lola's creepy father (Sterne) Seems to be slaughtering things in one of the farms as Lola reveals her slutty side to Faith picking up guys at the bar and taking them home. Problem is that there is no sign of them in the morning. Lola was sexually abused by Dad while growing up and the two girls bond through the common ground of being damaged. A few late movie twists in the plot show Lola as quite unstable and dangerous as the truth is revealed all the way up to a controversial ending. This movie starts off on the wrong foot in its first scene by showing something that happens much later and giving away its impact. The developing friendship between Faith and Lola are handled well by leads Holt and Shiels and is the movies strongest attribute. There are a few hints at horror early on but it doesn't get nasty until towards the end. In many ways it plays like a thriller until it gets a bit gory in the climax. Writer/Director Stewart Hopewell keeps the story between the girls interesting enough to watch but that's about it. The horror borders on torture * towards the end and the film manages a little suspense but no real scares.

Stewart Hopewell's SLAUGHTER is one of those "the dark side of rural America" kind of flicks where the sins of the father create a monster. This has one of those kind of heroines who makes so many questionable decisions you want to wring her neck yourself. It concerns a troubled young woman, Faith(Amy Shiels), escaping the abusive boyfriend, befriending a nymphomaniac, Lola(Lucy Holt), whose father is a creepy pig farmer who operates a slaughterhouse. Faith decides to stay with Lola, helping with chores in exchange for rent, soon uncovering disturbing truths regarding the family, concerning molestation and the mysterious absence of the mother. Lola brings home men she meets in the nearby city, and Faith discovers that these random guys come up missing, certain valuables of theirs remaining. Pursuing what happens to them unveils a startling reality regarding Lola with Faith's very life in danger. The part regarding Faith's lowlife boyfriend isn't left dangling, and this will rear it's ugly head late into the film. There's this idea of "starting a new life" which symbolizes just why Lola forges a friendship with Faith to begin with. The aspect of the "inability to escape the past" which follows you unless everything is "wiped clean" also becomes an important part of Lola's "quest" to rid herself of the trauma that torments her. The disturbing subject matter is handled in an non-exploitive way, the film instead focusing on Lola's violent outburst serving as the outlet for her rage. Not as violent as it could've been, director Hopewell uses tricks with sound effects(..such as the teeth pulling scenes)and moves his camera away as characters are blown away by shot gun blasts. Faith is portrayed as such a weak character you have an awfully difficult time giving her sympathy.

It is nigh to impossible to sit through this slow-moving, no-budget variation on THE Texas CHAINSAW MASSACRE. A troubled young woman joins up with another young woman she meets in the city and goes to stay with her at the family farm. Something unsavory is going on in the farm's barn, and curiosity soon gets the better of our heroine. What she discovers puts her life in jeopardy. The two gals are reasonably attractive but marginal when it comes to acting ability, and the ending is majorly disappointing. Essentially, this is a no-gore horror flick that depends more on sound effects than visceral visuals. I would say you may safely pass on this one, which drags badly. A typical TV show is better than this.

This reminded me a lot of Haute Tension, the French thriller. Miss Shiels is breathtakingly lovely and very understated in her role, which heightened the movie's believability for me. The villain was also superb, and there were a number of surprise twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. Slick writing, beautiful cinematography, great soundtrack. Miss Holt is also fantastic, and Maxim Knight is wonderful, adding just the right touch of deep pathos to the movie. I am astounded this movie didn't get better ratings from the viewers; I'd recommend it without hesitation to horror aficionados. Hope to see much more of Miss Shiels; she's dizzingly gorgeous.

Let me first start off by saying this is my first review of a movie ever posted on IMDb. I have been reading comments from movies off IMDb for years. But since I am a big fan of good horror films. I wanted to advise many people to stay away from this garbage! This is the second film I have watched in the After dark horror fest 3 series. The first one being "Autopsy" Which is much better done than this. I mean is this really what The After Dark horror fest has to offer? This movie was a complete waste of time. It's about a girl "Faith" who moves away from where she is currently living to get away from what it seems like her abusive boyfriend. She moves to a place on her family farm and meets a troubled girl named "Lola" at the bar. The movie drags and the story is just really not well written. When the director actually starts revealing more of the background of the farm and "Lola" you really just don't even care. There is no killing, no gore really at all. There is one scene where a guy is walking with his arm in his hand that was cut off. Woo Ho!! Yea right!! Then you actually think Faith's boyfriend is going to actually find her and save the day! But still no! I thought if that would have happened it would have at least been near "okay"....But I was wrong the movie keeps going and you come to find out that Lola's father is a really (sic) individual that kinda made "Lola" the killer she is. But all in all the ending is crap and I would totally pass on this one. If this is what The After Dark horror films have to offer then I'll Pass....

First of all this movie is not a horror movie. Second of all I understand that this was a low budget film. But just because it is low budget does not mean the actors have to be beyond terrible and the writing can be this bad. Third and this is the most important advice you really need to follow. The score of a film is meant to create and enhance the flow of the images and dialogue on the screen. Using it to create tension in a horror movie works really well. Instead you choose to play one crappy obscure emo rock song after another. I got the feeling that this entire film was made to show us someones terrible choice in musical taste's. Lastly I implore you to go and watch some good horror films that had less of a budget than your film, trust me there are many and how they made film into art. Not blow money on mindless trash.

If you like horror movies, then I will be doing you a favor by telling you before you buy it that it is not a horror. The movie succeeds in raising your curiosity towards the slaughter in the farm. And this is the only good thing about the movie next to the little kid indeed as one of the viewers said. The scene when she pulls her friend's teeth is good, to be fair it was really good. The big brother who gets killed later in the movie, I don't know why you expect him to have a different role. Nothing really much to say about this movie but it's really not a good movie.

Based on the title of this film I went into this thinking I was heading for a ride of blood and gore instead I ended up watching what would be my perfect chick flick. This isn't a fast paced movie by far, the first hour really only focuses on the relationship of the two girls and slowly, but interesting you learn about their heart wrenching pasts. The two girls spend their days giggling, having fun and going out at night to party while you start to feel yourself get pulled into the story. Before all the chickness gets to be too much the movie does a turn around and then starts the cringing moments that all us horror lovers love so much. There are some pretty nasty scenes which make up for the lack of gore all of which whirlwinds to a shocking end. This was a great flick.
