I was totally unaware of this film until today...and I hadn't seen any trailers for it...so I was literally going in blind. It started off ok-ish, with kind of Wes Craven vibes, but went downhill rapidly! It's set at the height of the Covid pandemic, which is all but played out now...ENOUGH!!! But the pandemic element added almost nothing to the film. Just 20 seconds of tension near the end. It was more of a rushed reason for this film to exist. If you're gonna make a film that throws the pandemic right in your face, then you better make the pandemic the star of the show...and have a massive bearing on the plot. It could of quite easily have been set anytime in the past, or future. Wasn't really original in any way, shape, or form. Unknown calls/texts has been done to death. Stuck in an isolated cabin in the middle of nowhere, a couple of fakeouts...and practically every other cliche in the book was present. The killers weren't scary at all, they were more like comical ninjas. The film is almost pitch black for about 95% of the runtime, which you already know, (from previous reviews), absolutely p*sses me off! There was no atmosphere, or feeling of dread. All the scenes seemed to melt into one another, with almost no build-up, or payoff. The soundtrack/score was too 'upbeat' for a horror. It was more like 'made for TV' movie. Ultimately, it just wasn't scary.

I am glad I watched this one tonight-kinda cheered me up. Should prove popular with people who like horror dark comedy. Its the same old concept, but it works everytime if you reinvent in a novel way. Similar to Scream in many ways, but I thought it was better than any in the Scream series. Its a traditional style of slasher movie, but has enough quirky twists to breathe some new life in to the old genre. Violent, yes, but also funny. These movies were always supposed to be over the top fun, and this one certainly delivers. Its paced well and keeps you routing for the leads. Its cynical satire, but even us most ardent covid regulation followers, need to laugh at our own eccentricism after 3 years of that carry on. An enjoyable one, well for me anway. Maybe i'm sick!

It was generic, sure. We've seen it all before, but they did a great job with tension and action. They got my adrenaline going as well as got me yelling at the screen. Sometimes for the usual stupid stuff that these characters do to keep the movie moving forward, but also when they got stuff right. Like women fighting back and making sure the protagonist is dead. One scene in particular, I found extremely satisfying. I'm sorry. I'm a female and I'm tired of men preying on women. For all the butthurts who were anti-vax and covid was a hoax, I guess their feelings are hurt and they don't know how to find the off switch on their remotes. Well that makes sense! Lol! Within the first 10 minutes you can pretty much decide whether or not you want to watch this or not. Instead of watching it, know it was a good slasher film, and then coming on here to say it was so, so boring. Yeah sure. No it wasn't. Fake news! If you don't have tender feelings like a whiny snowflake and you like a good slasher film, this is a pretty good one to start 2023 with.
