Showtime is supposed to be a comedy but there is really no funny material in it. Even great actors like Robert De Niro, Eddie Murphy and Rene Russo fail to deliver in this so-called comedy. It is just plain dull. Only for the really bored.

Showtime is a standard cop buddy movie. As usual, they pair up two totally incompatible partners. Eddie Murphy, a cop trying to become a movie star and the older, does things his way cop, Robert DeNiro. They're matched up for a reality cop TV show. As you can guess, DeNiro is unwilling and Murphy is a little too willing. The biggest negative is that the plot is very lacking and the movie is obviously just a vehicle to put the two leads on screen to entertain us. It does work on that level, but that's a pretty low level. With Will Shatner and Rene Russo thrown in, the actors interactions are often entertaining. Just a little too much fluff and not enough meat. ** (Out of 4)

DeNiro and Murphy. Man that's cool. There's a syndicate of robbers running around sporting a new type of weapon. Robert DeNiro plays a vetern cop who must pair up with movie star crazy cop Eddie Murphy on a T.V reality show while they're trying to catch the robbers. This movie is really well done with the special effects and is alright with the storyline. Like I mentioned in my one word sumary it does have it's comic moments. ONE SPOILER: The only little thing I object to (and I don't mean to sound mr. Smart@$$ himself ChubbsOverkill997) is why aren't DeNiro and Murphy screaming in agony, when they're hand cuffed together and hanging in mid air, with the hand cuff's chain layed out over a bar? If it were realistic then either of them couldn't have stood the pressure of the cuffs digging into their wrists. Oh well. This movie does deliver a good time.

A sort of parody of buddy cop movies. A Dirty Harry like cop named Mitch Preston(Robert Deniro) loses his cool after a bust goes wrong. He shoots at a T.V. camera.(Not the man just the camera)Because of that, T.V. producer Chase Renzi (Renee Russo) becomes interested into making a reality based cop show out of him. And teams him up with Trey Sellers (Eddie Murphy) a patrolmen and actor wanna be. This movie is very funny. Deniro and Murphy are the funniest unlikely team. Eddie Murphy seems to be having fun parodying his Beverly Hills Cop days. William Shatner is also good making fun of himself. Renee Russo is also funny.

Robert DeNiro is a cop working for twenty eight years and Eddie Murphy is an actor who a cop. DeNiro on the news and destroy a video camera and Murphy wants his big break. Suddenly something happen that made them famous on a Cops like TV show called Showtime. William Shatner has a part as himself making fun of his J.T. Hooker image in the movie. It funny moments in the movie with DeNiro and Murphy. I would like to see them again in another movie. Showtime is better than some of the movies, I have seen lately.

Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy star in this spoof on the buddy genre; that's not really a spoof at all. Many will compare the film to 15 Minutes (which is a much better picture), but where 15 Minutes was dark and gritty -- Showtime is cute and sweet. To my surprise though, Showtime wasn't all that bad. In fact, it's one of those pictures most will have fun with when they are in the theater, but after you exit you won't think twice about it. Murphy and De Niro have surprisingly good chemistry together -- and the film has its share of laughs. The film works better as just a generic buddy picture then it does as a satire. With nice action scenes and the stars charisma with each other, this is passable entertainment that might work better on video.

I'm afraid, to say anything positive about this particular movie would go against every moral that I have. It was quite possibly the worst thing I have ever inflicted upon my eyeballs in the time that I have spent on this good earth, the only memory that I will keep of the film is a feeling of disgust towards myself for shelling out the £5.50 to sit in the seat for 45 minutes (yes, I walked out... closely followed by the people I was with). Fellow movie watchers and film-buffs alike... STAY AWAY FROM SHOWTIME IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY AND HARD EARNED MONEY!!!!

The film thinks the 'catch phrase' is funny. It isn't. Nor is the script. Nor are the performances. Nor is the film. It's an unspeakably lame excuse for an action comedy that insults the intelligence of anyone who pays up their hard-earned dosh to see it. We are used to seeing Eddie Murphy in turkeys and this is just one more of them. But Robert de Niro? Oh why, oh why? Do you really need the money that badly, Bob? Flee from this one, cinema-goers!
