It's sad that the new generation has such low interest and respect for our rich culture and enriching history. Today people are compulsively drawn towards toxic dynamics that OTT shows and films are filled with.
It's a luxury to watch something cultured and healthy that teaches us consciousness.
I loved the film. Thank you for the beautiful cast and absolutely loved the beautiful animals!
It makes me want to hope we can bring back a works where animals amd humans live together without and in harmony. Where honesty, love, peace are normal. Where harmony is the norm. I am so happy to have watched the film.

Every effort has its value. Everytime success can't be weighed with box office touch. The movie has set good vfx. The cast introduction could have been better and the language script could have been better.
Other character's greatness is not showed enough. Every scene connection could have been made better. Philosophy/ spirituality or the morals could have been shown better. Scene depiction when pushing out Shakuntala was shown for too long
VFX showing the animals was done very nicely. The kingdom was very vast but shown very empty.
Some characters require methodical actors. Good movie days.

Story according to the Movie:
Shakuntala is the biological daughter of Vishvamitra and Menaka abandoned at birth by her parents,
Kanva Maharshi raises her in his secluded hermitage.
Shakuntala is a 36 year old virgin who looks very depressed, Her eyes are filled with sadness and lust, but she forcefully laughs and spends playfull time with her young friends, she secretly undergoes some ancient cosmetic surgeries to her nose, lips, jaws, cheekbones and chin. Seems to have botoxed her face to look young. Also uses a ton of makeup n dresses like a princess,
She also has mild implantations to her breast and buttcheeks.
She works-out heavily twice a day in their gym.
She has manly arms, biceps and shoulder mussels and also perfect abs and thighs.
She makes sure all her hard work is visible to the viewers.
She looks very odd, artificial and weirdly sexy but considered to be attractive and naturally beautiful.
She is a bit innocent and stupid. Her voice is also Horribly dull and emotionless.
Once a young King comes to that Hermitage.
His name is Dushyant He is in his mid 20's, He sees Shakuntala and gets attracted to her who is almost 10 years older than him, and courts her.
One Night She gets too #orney and runs to him but hesitates so he
secretly marries her and Fornicates her, Gives her a ring and tells he will come back n take her to his palace as a queen and leaves. She gets Pregnant.
Durvasa Maharshi visits the hermitage and Shakutale wont serves him cuz she is stupid and absent minded so He gets angry and curses her that her husband will forget her.
The only thing that could remind him of her is the ring, now that she is absent minded and stupid she looses it in the river.
She normally gets ready like a princess in Hermitage, now that she is a queen she gets ready heavily and goes to meet the king, He forgot her so she tries to remind him with her stories but he refuses and insults her cuz she looks like a fraud.
She gets angry and leaves the place.
A fisherman finds the ring in a fish and gives it to the king and then he remembers everything.
Shakuntala lives in a snow forest and gives birth to a son who looks like a daughter and plays with lions.
Dushyanth comes back and finds his wife and Son. The end.
Samantha has done an impeccable job in playing the above mentioned version of Shakuntala.
Bad vfx which looks like animation mixed with live action.
All sets costume and makeup are as unreal as possible.
Music is a big minus.
Cinematography is okay.
I think Gunasekhar did not direct OKKADU, may be MS RAJU did..
Watch it in only if you want to punish yourselves.

India is called Bharata after the name of the son of Shakuntala.
I have heard this story so many times since my Grand mother name is Shakuntala. My grand parents told this story in epic way and I want to see it on screen.
The team wasted a good love story. The hero and his acting is the most irritating part in the movie. Over cooked CG. Noting was related or not well glued. Costumes and the throne room are the only good things on the movie.
Not sure why such a good stories from our Mythistries are ruined for Blockbusters. I don't see any commercial aspects too.
India is called Bharata after the name of the son of Shakuntala. It is not justified.

Samantha is biggest drawback to this movie. Not much expressions and no glamour, her weak expressions leads to feel weakness to audiences. Dev Mohan is ok but not familiar face to Telugu audience another minus. Songs and BGM not apt truly speaking worst. It's a known story but director should show some intensity no elevations. No importance for few characters and poor graphics. Like Srinu Vaitla, it's better to stop makings films by Guna Shekar. Loosing all his reputation. It's time for Dil Raju to stop experiments. Better save money and invest on low budget movies like Balagam. Entire movie no scene creates impact to us.

I wondered how bad a movie can be and how bad graphics can be but within first 20mins i realised this would be a big disaster and it proved me right.
Please don't watch unless you are so bored and have nothing to do in life i repeat worst graphics

Its a gem. Dont miss it.
I saw it in theaters, here in the USA. Was blown away by the visuals n story-telling. Specially loved the depiction of swarga, Lord Indra n Apsaras.
We have never seen anything like this in Indian Cinema. You will also love it if you are a nature person. Lots of beautiful shots of nature's different terrains in all their glory.
The film does justice to The great story of King Bharat- after which India is named. Show this to your kids. We need to pass our great legends to the next generation.
Only weak point of the movie was actress samantha. She has flat expressions in every scene. A different actress would have been better. I see a lot of negative reviews are by "seculars" who are intent on erasing the memories of our ancestors. So disregard them.
As a Gujarati I watched this film in telegu with english subtitles. And loved it. Recent telegu epics like Bahubali, RRR n Shakuntala are so good that they universally connect with you no matter your language. Keep up this trend!

Gunashekar brings on screen the tale of Abhignyana Shakuntalam and completely fails in doing justice. He is bogged down by his own outdated narrative. While narrating a known story, there should be a tad bit of freshness to it at the very least which was completely missing here like the non-existing chemistry between Samantha and Dev Mohan. The only believable character turned out to be Durvasa Muni played by Mohan Babu.
The narrative is poor and slow paced along with the tacky visuals, the film simply tests the patience of the viewers who might even find the dialect bit too hard to digest. This adaptation would work only if the audience buy into the premise and connect to the characters. The songs were forgettable. The introduction of the villains and the final battle simply prolonged the story. The VFX was simply that below par.
As far as the performances go, Samantha as Shakuntala and Dev Mohan as Dushyant have tried to be as earnest as they can but they simply don't fit these characters to make their love story believable or even have any impact. The supporting cast especially the ones like Shiva Balaji used for comic relief, went over the top. I am harsh but even if I try to be lenient, there isn't a single thing in this film that stands out.

King and hero of the film has not put enough efforts in his acting, he seems in n out from the character very often. VFX, props, artifacts are at its worst level, not convincing enough. As a audience you can find plenty of mistakes in props selections. Even villains of the story are funnily seems like actors from school drama. You can watch it once with less expectations. If you are already having high expectations then I'll suggest don't waste your time and do not spoil the very well known story of shankutala and King Dushyanth. That's from my side but as I need to add atleast 600 words I'm trying to met that condition.
