Dolly Parton fanatic Red (Krew Boylan) can't keep a job and rents the converted garage from her disapproving mother. At the company party, she mistakenly dresses as Dolly Parton. There is a Elvis impersonator (Rose Byrne) and booker Teeth. Red gets fired and signs with impersonator company owner Wilson (Bobby Cannavale). She is paired with Kenny Rogers impersonator (Daniel Webber).
It's an interesting world and there is a funnier comedy somewhere in here. I like the themes and all the big ideas. There is stuff that doesn't make sense. It's also a bit disconnected. It builds up Elvis, but doesn't do more with that character. I assumed Francis to be gay and that threw me off. A lot of little things threw me off in this one. I still like Red a lot despite her bumpy journey.

Has anyone in this film ever googled what Dolly actually looks like. Kenny looks more like a Bee Gee and has no charisma. This film was embarrassing. Cmon Aussie Cmon....this was trash. How did this get made ? Please stop making trash Aussie movies.
I waited for this to come out on DVD as I had reservations for the big screen. So glad I didn't spend the money on the cinema ticket.
I gave this film 1 star reluctantly as the only good thing about it was most of the Dolly merchandise or memorabilia is in my personal collection. The soundtrack is amazing as it's Dolly but wasn't enough to keep my interest.

When I sat down to watch the 2022 movie "Seriously Red", I must admit that I wasn't really harboring much of any expectations really. Why? Well, I mean a movie about a Dolly Parton impersonator, how much contents could there possibly be to that?
But I opted to watch the movie, giving the movie a fair chance and the benefit of the doubt. And I am actually glad that I did, because writer Krew Boylan and director Gracie Otto put together a very enjoyable and entertaining movie here.
The storyline is nicely written by Krew Boylan, whom also coincidentally starred as Red, and it is a storyline that takes the audience by the hand and gives you a heartfelt experience that is guaranteed to put a smile on your lips. I was genuinely surprised with the story here, and I have to say that it was good entertainment from start to end.
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, except for actor Bobby Cannavale, but they had a great cast and the actors and actresses put on good performances to bring the movie to life on the screen. Leading actress Krew Boylan really carried this movie phenomenally well with her performance.
"Seriously Red" is a movie that is well worth watching and sitting down to spend 104 minutes upon.
My rating of "Seriously Red" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Raylene (Krew Boylan) is a down-on-her-luck realtor, who has found herself in desperate need of a career change. One day she embraces her greatest passion ever, Dolly Parton, and she decides that she will become the world's greatest Dolly Parton impersonator. On her journey she loses a part of herself, unsure of who and what she wants to be. Seriously Red is a story about struggle, about figuring out who and what you are, and understanding that sometimes it's okay to let things go, no matter how much you love it. [more...]

Raylene (Krew Boylan) works as an appraiser for real estate loans in Australia. On the office party night she wins an award for the office clown. She does a Dolly Parton impersonation, who she has idolized all her life. She is seen by a Impostor agency and is asked to try out. Her mother (Jean Kittson) does not approve. Raylene managers to team up a Kenny Rogers impersonator (Daniel Webber) who never gets out of character and never whats Raylene to get out of character as she get more augmentations.
The film is about being yourself and the issues impersonators go through if they stay in character. The impersonations were decent. Raylene was filled with Dolly philosophy and truisms.
Guide: No swearing. Sex and nudity (Krew Boylan)

I read mixed reviews for this movie before going to see it but I always have an open mind. I adored it..it made me want to laugh and cry and clap my hands all at the same time. Being a country music fan helped with the music content as I sang along and tapped my feet but don't let that stop you going if you aren't a Dolly and Kenny fan.
So heartfelt and funny and sad and genuine all rolled into one. I thought it was a masterpiece and over too soon. I felt like jumping to my feet with a standing ovation at the end and I couldn't stop smiling.e
If I was Dolly Parton I would he very happy with this film !
One small warning...contains nudity..quite a bit !

Great Aussie Film that warms the heart and fills the would with the music from the great Dolly Parton. The ending could have been a little better as it felt like they rushed the last part and it didn't quite make sense but still loved in nonetheless.

You know what, from the shorts i thought this film was going to be a riot, sadly though for me it wasn't.
I'm not sure if it was down to the direction, or the production, or even ther story telling or what! But the one minute it's a slapstick comedy, then the next it's a serious socal issues film and then it's inwardly naval gazing self awareness film.
It's such a shame because there is a bucket load of tallent there, and it's a good story, i just wish it chose a route and stuck to it.
But as they say you pays your money and you take your choice. I found it disapointing, whereas my partner, she loved it!

The trailer to Seriously Red is a little deceiving. It portrays this film as more comedic than what it actually is, and more endearing than what it is.
As an Australian, and a film maker myself, I was quite embarrassed by this film. I wanted to walk out numerous times. When are we going to move on with portraying Australians in this kind of light?
I can't quite put my finger on it. A mixture of Twee and Ocker. Is it really necessary now? We are in 2023? We have moved passed The Castle and Muriel's Wedding. And I don't think we need to 'sell' Australia to an overseas market as a bunch of idiots.
The storyline is cliche, a daughter dragged down by her single mother, in a dead end job. Oh don't forget the daughter is a bumbling fool on top of that, oh she's a red head too with the obligatory best mate who idolises her but she mistreats.
Then of course she worships Dolly Parton and as fate has it, she is offered the chance to be a Dolly impersonator.
Things really do not get any better as the story goes a long.
I had been looking forward to Seriously Red for sometime. And if done "seriously" it could have been such a good film. Everything was such a let down. The acting was subpar, the directing was blah, the costuming was not great. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone. And I truly hope for Australian cinema that this does not make its rounds overseas.
