This is a very watchable quality effort and will be appreciated by history buffs ,the FRench are not as innocent in the conspiracy against the Jews as we are led to believe. this in itself made the movie genuinely interesting. Kirsten SK can be forgiven for her American accent as she solidly drives this hitchcock mystery to a conclusion. Great support all round as she meets and unravels the mystery of the apartment and theft perpetrated by her husbands family. The comparisons between modern day France and us and during ww2 can seen both interesting and a bit laboured at times but stay with it as it sometimes as a movie bounces around. Both pragmatic and touching we are drawn into her obsession which results In hope and tragedy for all concerned . But give it a try it's a human story placed over real tragic events that are still be understood today. French shame delicately exposed

Having read the book this movie gives no justice to what the author tried to make the reader feel. They got rid of important characters, moments, etc. This is just a simple movie. It fails horribly to capture the essence of the book. If you've watched it and enjoyed it, I strongly recommend you read the book. I feel like I've aged 10 years. Not due to some greater understanding of the world, or newfound appreciation for foreign films, but because it felt that long. I may try to watch this show on the last day of my life because this hour and 40 minutes felt like an eternity.

The movie is good even though I thought La Raffe (The Roundup) was a more moving take on the same subject. I saw the movie on DVD in French with English subtitles because I enjoy getting the feel for the actual language spoken as opposed to a dubbed movie and I was appalled by the pathetic mistranslations from French of the English. Many of English sentences make no sense at all. It's disgraceful to release a major movie like this and not have a competent English speaker check that the English captions are correct. Was this the work of Google Translate? How much of an investment can that be compared to the overall budget for the movie...

There are many European offerings of quality WWII perspective pieces. Movies that put the viewer into the cinematic trenches of truly dramatic tales. This film is based on a novel, but without knowing the books turns, it was dramatically engaging. I enjoyed the balance of French, it felt like a story unfamiliar to mainstream audiences. The essence and story flow were very much like that of Remembrance. If you're on the mood for some drama on the genre, great option here.

This movie surprised me completely and I enjoyed it as much as the first time I watched Schindlers List, The Aryan Couple or The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. It's rare I watch a movie that did not ennoy me a second. The only bad thing about this movie is that it did not last longer ... I could watch such a movie for 12 hours.

A very well written and acted movie telling a very harrowing story about what happened to Jews during World War II and the aftermath. I am of an age now where I seek knowledge of what actually happened during recent history and this story combines the facts with personal anguish. I strongly recommend those who want to watch and learn see this movie

The acting and first 20 minutes of the movie were good. The story about the little blond girl and her brother was also not a bad idea. But everything else is not worth the watch. Too many things are happening and although cutting from one story to the other sounds like a good idea, in these case it tooks the initial story of Sarah. It's like the movie doesn't know what's about - is it about a jewish girl and her tragic story or about the journalist Julia. I expected to be a good film but I got disappointed.
