Salad Days
United States
774 people rated "Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC (1980-90)" examines the early DIY punk scene in the Nation's Capital. It was a decade when seminal bands like Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Government Issue, Scream, Void, Faith, Rites of Spring, Marginal Man, Fugazi, and others released their own records and booked their own shows-without major record label constraints or mainstream media scrutiny. Contextually, it was a cultural watershed that predated the alternative music explosion of the 1990s (and the industry's subsequent implosion). Thirty years later, DC's original DIY punk spirit serves as a reminder of the hopefulness of youth, the power of community and the strength of conviction.

Taking a trip down memory lane 30+ years later yap, yap, yapping just isnt the same as raw footage and interviews and this is why you get the spirit of a scene from Decline of Western Civilization while Salad Days is people trying to remember their youth, many with rose colored glasses, and telling you what they can remember

An interesting doc about DC hardcore. Worth a watch but unfortunately felt like I zoned out a couple of times. That being said, Ian is great in it. I could listen to him talk for hours.

Excellent and one of the best docs we've scene on the The DC hardcore scene. Very interesting insightful interviews with the original players and a great accompaniment to Dance of Days by Mark Anderson. One of the many interesting things we learned was that this scene was different than other punk scenes because a lot of these kids were children of white color parents who were forming policy in Washington and they had a lot to say about politics and society in a very smart, well-informed manner. So worth a watch.
