------ ---- ------- ------ -------- -------- ---------- ------ -------- I highly do not recommend this movie. At first you think you're watching a real life movie, but then all this crazy unrealistic sh*t starts happening. Oh and don't think they'll explain it to you later. The ending is the worst part. In some parts you feel as if you're watching a romantic movie, documentary and mostly adventure. The one thing you will NOT encounter in this movies is comedy. This movie is like poor, pointless 21st century duplicate of "Back to the Future." -Hope this helps. ------ ---------- ----------- -------- -------- ---------- -------- ----

We've all seen that want ad ("Someone to go back in time with me ... must bring your own weapons" yadda yadda), but "Safety Not Guaranteed" does something really cool, takes a lame Internet meme and makes a pretty great movie out of it. I came to this for the ever lovely Aubrey Plaza, but was drawn in by the overall performances (Plaza, Duplass and Johnson, in particular). The lingering doubt of the sanity behind hat want ad actually becomes a heartfelt love story. And the burning question of whether the time travel promise is genuine brings about a really memorable finale.

This movie has it all! A love story, suspense, sci-fi, comedy and drama. All done very well in the beautiful state of Washington.
The underlying story for this film is unique and interesting. The writers did not squander this, but instead exploited it with beautiful dialog that developed the story on many levels.
Aubrey Plaza delivered with her perfect dead-pan acting style, as did Jake Johnson with his ever gritty, no nonsense comedy. Both made this movie very watchable. Mark Duplass provided a great performance as "Kenneth", keeping you as the viewer constantly guessing as to whether he was a genius or lunatic.
I've seen many movies, similar to this, that assert a grand science fiction notion at the beginning of the movie, just to let you down by the end. This is not the case here.
I highly recommend this film. Well worth the 1hr 26mins.

This film sounds brilliant, and TBO starts of very well. A bit of comedy but some potential bite in there to come. Sadly the bite never materialises and we about half way through the film we get soppy silliness, virtually it turns into a romcom - made poorly, with a bit of potential time travel as a side story. The film meanders it's way along, going nowhere in particular and leaves the viewer unsure of what they are actually watching. I say a Romcom and a bit of very lighthearted fun at best. I am very surprised it has a (currently April 2013) 7.4 rating on IMDb, I can only imagine that in time this film will find it's true level of around 4.5 - 5.0 / 10

Aubrey Plaza steals the show, again. Give her 2 minutes or a leading role, it doesn't matter-she always manages to make me laugh regardless of the subject matter. This movie is quirky and verges on being an indie film in the way it looks and feels.
The dynamic and odd duo of interns accompany a staff writer on a road trip to meet an eccentric inventor who claims to be able to time travel. The inventor posted an ad in the paper and is looking for a companion to go back in time with him. Darius is able to win him over with her strange/grimdark personality with Plaza's awesome deadpan delivery. Much hilarity ensues. Prolly one of the best endings, ever.

very pure, hopeful, fun, loving and fascinating. this little film was crafted with wonderful storyline, dialog, plot and best of all, nice casting. the dialog is full of sense of humor and wit. although it's like watching a child's play, a day dream and immature fantasy but it warmed your heart, allowing you suddenly wanted going back to where you were coming from, somewhere in time that you simply wanted to revisit when you were more naive and even stupider without any social burdens. this screenplay is full of holes and flaws, with lot of bad logic and moronic day-dreaming-like childhood fantasies, but at the same time, it loosened you up with your common sense. it's stupid but won't block you not keep watching it to the end. again, very nice casting and fun dialog have made this little film very outstanding and unique.

A nice small film. Good for a rainy afternoon. Reminded me of the Travolta film Michael.

I do not understand the hype surrounding this movie—or the fact that it won a writing award at Sundance. Seriously?
Safety Not Guaranteed is a poorly written, acted, directed, and edited romantic comedy with an obnoxiously predictable ending. This is what independent film has to offer us these days? Where's the risk? It's so sad that indie filmmakers just crank out the same Kate & Leopold crap. At least Hugh Jackman looked good in tight pants.
Stop pretending that inserting a time machine somehow makes your film quirky. It doesn't. Your ideas are mediocre at best.
This movie had so much potential. I don't dislike Aubrey Plaza or Mark Duplass, but there's absolutely no chemistry here. Two weirdos don't always make a right.
