Not afraid to say it as it is, or as he thinks it is, Ricky Gervais is back on Netflix, and another comedy special.
Maybe not as sharp or funny as the last one, but still some very memorable moments and laugh out loud jokes. Ricky daring to say what many people think, but are too afraid to admit to.
I am stunned that he's still featuring on Netflix, his 'Brand' of humour doesn't exactly seem to fit in with the company's image.
He doesn't hold back, ripping into everyone, and he says, it's alright to laugh at things, it doesn't necessarily mean it's your opinion. Many people have lost the ability to laugh, it's sad.
He's about the only stand up comedian left that's actually funny and original.
8/10.

I'm a huge Ricky Gervais fan, he is one of my favourite comedians and always has been... Which makes this special so much more disappointing. This is by far and away, the least funny stand up he he has created. He is way too focused on trying to be offensive, controversial or explain his jokes. There's nothing new here, but it's much less refined than what he's created before.
There is nothing at all wrong with being offensive or controversial, I think that's where comedy thrives, but it should first and foremost be funny. Unfortunately, this isn't.
I gave 4/10 because I laughed twice and smiled a couple more times. For the most part though, it's just boring, eye rolling, half-baked 'comedy'. You can see the punchline coming a mile off and it all feels a little cheap. Not his usual standard at all
I remain a fan, we all have times where we fail, but this was an epic fail. My advice, skip it and maybe rewatch one of his other much funnier specials.
I hope he takes some time before the next one, polishes his material and gets back to being the outlandish, hilarious, genius we know and love.

Just churning out the same drivel to the same idiots. Hes lost it and playing this character he's stuck with now. It's just boring same low hanging fruit that made all his other specials popular.
I don't know why he still does this, must be the money a lot of other decent comedians have been calling him out for a while with this now. It's not clever or well structured just offensive fir the sake of it. Just keeps going in about animals like he hasn't bummed one it's embarrassing. The real worry is that new comedians will look at the blueprint for his comedy and this hack nonsense will be everywhere.

I love much of Ricky's previous work, so it pains me to say it, but this was really not very good. Mostly this just felt tired and unfunny, punching down at vulnerable targets. It didn't offend me in regards taste and political correctness, but more just in terms of its lack of humour. No target should be off limits for comedy as long as it come from a good place, as much of Ricky's past material has proved. The problem for me was this did not feel like it was coming from that good place anymore. And when it feels like you are attacking vulnerable groups from that darker area, you start to sound like either a 1970s comedian or an alt-right commentator.

I love Ricky Gervais and i've done so since The Office. He's made so many great movies, tv and radio shows and stand-up specials over the years, but his two latest Netflix specials has been pretty bad.
I don't know if he's got a contract with Netflix to produce X amount of shows during a set time, but it surely feels like that's the fact. That's usually how Netflix works with big names which time and time again becomes apparent in the results.
I know that it usually takes many years for a stand-up comedian to come up with, filter, try out and reach an hour of solid material and considering that his last special came out just last year and that he's a person with many irons in the fire, his material can't be solid. And it isn't. Gervais gets stuck on 2-3 subjects and he seems to aim at being controversial and poking at people who doesn't like him more than being funny. Personally i have no issues with controversial and shocking, but it better be funny ...and it isn't.

Some say the jokes are over-explained in their reviews but it clearly wasn't enough as the point was missed by many. It seems like Ricky Gervais is really testing the intelligence of his fan base at this point, once you subscribe to the notion that offence is taken (not given) and all jokes in his arsenal have no personal target so they're just words and words can't harm, you should be able to watch carefree and go along for the ride without guilt. It's clear and spelt out that he's playing a character which is all to easy to forget when watching stand up but important o be reminded of. There truly isn't anything that can't be funny.
