This movie is the best ever! A great cast, writer's, producer's! The music was perfect! I won't give any spoilers because this is a must see movie, even the trainer for Mel( the dog) did a great job! I would give this movie more stars if they were offered! Anyone who didn't like the movie has no taste when it comes to movie's. If you have never seen it, please take a night and watch it. I have watched it a bunch of times. I have it on right now again! If l watch a movie more than 5 times it's worth watching or even buying!

From beginning to end this is a movie that is packed with everything you would want in a romantic comedy. David and Minnie are at there best in this touching romantic comedy. The supporting cast adds all the humor and then some. A movie you must see. I can't say enough about it. Some may say it's predictable, but predictably nice.

Predictable and lame, with some nasty old men (archie bunker no less) getting some licks in, yet not all that bad either. Kind of hard to say, since it telegraphs every single twist and turn and everyone knows Exactly How It Will End. Belushi is very good, not taking himself too seriously and pulling off a very good comic routine with Ms Hunt...as for the two leads, well, if you can't say anything good...

Wonderful all around; and I'm a guy. A dood. Loved it all-- even the "old men" shtick in the restaurant. Carrol O'Conner was spectacular; Robert Loggia was very good; The other two "old guy" characters were a bit corny and tedious, but even so, it was fine. The movie has a sweetness and a truth overall that cancels out any of the minor imperfections one might find with a first time director. It's all enjoyable, and a first rate job of acting, writing, and directing. And--- David Duchovny, if I've spelled his name right, was amazingly gifted in this role. He is no mere sulking "male model" type. He can ACT! Boy-- I was impressed, and I think this role is the announcement to the world that he is a genuine movie star. I gave this movie a 10/10.

This was the funniest, most heartwarming movie I've seen in a long time. I admit, I went just to see David Duchovny in the first place, but I just loved the whole thing! I was laughing so hard, my side hurt. Go see this movie!

This is a 50's-60's style romantic movie have the tissue box handy, however this is one of the most romantic movies ever made. Minnie and Davidmake a great duo and you fall in love with the characters. This will tug at your heart strings at the same time make you laugh out loud. I saw this in the theater. To this day its a movie no matter how many times you watch it you won't get sick of it.

Maybe the most pleasing film I saw over this summer, Bonnie Hunt's Return to Me is a gentle and funny story that breaks through the high concept schmaltz of a widower's wife's donated heart landing in the chest of a young woman the widower falls for. Hunt's fast, tumbling direction finds the right combination of comedy and tragedy. Return to Me never gets bogged down in its inherently melodramatic story of grief and rebirth. Seeing this film caught me at a particularly stressful moment--my wife and daughter were involved in an automobile accident just days before--and, thank God, no one was hurt. Yet, the thought of either of them (or the other party) being injured or killed in the accident created a personal resonance that made the film more real, more believable. Return to Me is a charming, sweet, and, for me, an emotionally satisfying comedy

"Return to Me" was a real crowd-pleaser for the audience (except for the penultimate scene which was so predictable that the audience didn't cheer as I think we were supposed to). The advance PR compared it to "Moonstruck" and that's apt, though every character plays it completely straight, without the magic realism. The hamish family, if one can use Yiddish to describe an Italian/Irish mix was so warm and comfortable that they won the audience over even more than the central couple. Duchovny does get to smile, though the middle third he's in mourning so he gets to be in Mulder Mode for then. Minnie Driver has less annoying mannerisms than she did in "Ideal Husband" and the match-up works. The Dean Martin and ilk music really works, especially in the context of the constant discussions about crooners. (originally written 4/8/2000)
