But I can agree with a lot of things he discusses about religion. He asks questions that the religious can't answer.
I hate religion. Mainly Christianity. It looks goofy but people still do it. It does more harm than good. Bill says exactly what I think about religion, but he was more nice about it. Some of the religious guests don't seem too smart to be honest.
This was a great doc for religious fanatics to break out of their foolery and atheists to have a good laugh.
Many Christians got mad about this doc during the time. What's to be mad about? Everything he states is fact.
Overall, great doc a must-watch.

When I decided to watch this movie I knew nothing about it. So quite frankly I did not have any expectations. As it turned out I found this movie to be quite funny.
This is a hilarious documentary made by Bill Maher, he travels around talking to different people about religion and then provokes them for their sayings. He tries to prove these religious people wrong and makes fun of their beliefs.
I thought this movie had a lot of hilarious scenes although I'm not completely agreeing with Maher statements. It's nice to see this kind of movie once in a while, and it is true what people say, that comedians can get away with saying a lot of things as long as it is categorized as comedy. In my opinion everyone is entitled to express their view on things, also the extremely religious people.

I have to first say this this has to be the most ridiculous documentary I've ever ever seen on anything.. I mean basically every person of some religion in this doco her interviews, he's laughs at their beliefs & just makes them sound stupid. He is a sad man. Im not a very religious person my self but i think if someone believes in something to make them a better person, well that person is doing good. In my opinion i had a feeling that he himself targeted Muslims & christians. Bill Maher's conclusion looks to be like this, Muslims are the craziest most violent religion & christians are just stupid happy people who believe anything. BILL MAHER IS A PATHETIC actor/host who has nothing better to do.

I am, as comedian Dave Allen once said, "A practicing Athiest." I despise religion on every level. Bill Maher is one of my heroes. This Documentary is one of the smartest films I've ever seen. Bill takes almost every aspect of religion and trashes it. He speaks to people of almost every religion about their beliefs. It is amazing at how in-denial religion can make people. We're talking about people arguing with Bill about some of the most fairy tale-ish tales from the Bible. It amazes me that people can look at the facts right in the face and still believe that the Word of God is the way to go. If you are against religion, I highly suggest this documentary. That being said, if you are religious, do NOT watch this unless you want a wake up call.

Wow, what a moving film I am still processing it the day after seeing it. As a person who was raised with religion but has lost his faith in the organized aspect of it all, this film really spoke to me. Bill Mahr is able to excellently and non-judgmentally discuss religious matters with the most extremist peoples of different faiths and it not become just another shouting match which usually happens when I try to discuss religion with friends, family or co-workers. I plan on purchasing this film when it comes out on DVD and showing it to everyone I possibly can for many years to come. I was especially fascinated to be reminded how anti-organized religion Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and John Adams were and how entwined in government today organized religion has become. IN G-D WE TRUST indeed.....

While watching this documentary I laughed, was shocked, was bewildered, felt pity, felt my Catholic roots being twisted and yanked on, was afraid for Mr. Maher's life, was fearful for the future of the planet (at least for the people on it), thought of many people I know who would absolutely hate the movie, thought of a few who would love it, felt validated for the way I have been feeling for years, felt a little sad -but mostly afraid, and then I laughed some more. Who could ask for more? Bill Mayer is just asking questions -he says it himself. People don't have to answer. One guy didn't like what Mr. Maher was asking so he got up and left. Good for him. Most people have never asked themselves why they believe what they believe. Mr. Maher is simply asking the questions that many of us have never asked ourselves. What's wrong with that? I think it's about time.

Can Belief withstand the slightest degree of criticism? How does, "I believe that two plus two equals four", differ from, "I believe that God created the world in seven days"? Regardless of your personal beliefs, Bill Maher's RELIGULOUS forces the viewer to entertain an element of critical thinking, and a healthy dose of skepticism or doubt. I think that, in the end, Maher and company clearly make the point that as citizens of the world we are all at risk by the dangerous thinking of True Believers. And, it all seems to boil down to a simple matter of opinion. One man's Jack and The Beanstalk might be no more true than Jonah and The Whale. And, would you want to stake your life and the life of the planet on it?

Bill Maher, cynical comic extraordinaire, scours the planet and takes on the three major monotheistic religions. In RELIGULOUS, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all skewered, lampooned, and destroyed, not by Maher, but by the loony practitioners thereof.
Bill asks questions, and though he does interject, it's mostly the answers from the True Believers that elicit the laughs. Among the gems are the Ultra-orthodox Jewish man who believes that Israel shouldn't exist, the Christian Creation Museum and its founder, and the woman who dances all around the idea of there being any violence whatsoever in Islam.
Maher knows how to get under people's skin by asking the simplest of questions. Both Scientology and Mormonism are also touched on.
Maher's main thesis is: Blind adherence to any religion = mental illness, and that having doubts is healthy. His personal philosophy can be summed up as "I don't know".
Highly recommended for skeptics with a sense of humor...

Maher is a hilarious and very smart dude, and his monologues in the movie are good. But overall, this documentary really missed the mark. My biggest problem was with the editing of the interviews he conducts, which are clearly cut on numerous occasions to make the interviewees look dumb, cutting to reactions that they almost certainly didn't make in response to the things Maher is made to seem as though he just asked or said to them.
