A birthday get together on a boat results in a fight for human survival, when they are stalked by a huge shark. Less fun than Xue Sha (2020), but director Huang Zhaosheng offering is much better made, this offering has the vibes of Open Water (2003) mixed with the set up of The Shallows (2016). The character dynamics of jealousy is a little eye rolling as the leads bicker and get picked off one by one. Like The Shallows the last act has no dialogue, the last scene offers a MEG (2018) like sequel. To Zhaosheng's credit there's a few effective setups. Overall, a poor persons version of the aforementioned, but watchable especially if you're a killer shark addict.

I stumbled upon the 2021 Chinese shark movie titled "Red Water", though it was titled "Huge Shark" on the release that I got my hands on. Nevertheless, I opted to sit down and watch this movie without ever having heard about it. And I have to say that I didn't exactly harbor any expectations to the movie given its title "Huge Shark" and also because the vast majority of shark movies are dubious at best. But director Zhaosheng Huang got the benefit of the doubt. "Huge Shark" is a laughably bad shark movie. In fact it ranks up there among the top three of worst shark movies I have ever stumbled upon. And believe you me when I say that it wasn't even bad enough to be funny or enjoyable. No, this was just downright a horribly bad movie. The storyline in the movie was fair enough, it was simplistic and very generic for a shark movie. But it worked out well enough for what it was. Now, what ruined this movie was the dialogue, which was God awful to listen to. I have rarely witnessed such poorly written dialogue in my more than four decades of watching movies. The dialogue in "Huge Shark" was so toe-curling awful that I felt embarrassed just bearing witness to it. And worse yet, was the fact that the version of "Huge Shark" that I had stumbled upon was dubbed from Chinese into English. Yeah, a dubbed movie in 2021, what gives? And of course it was that archetypical horrible dubbing without emotion or conviction, that makes the characters feel like they are drugged out of their minds. And then there was the CGI animated shark. Actually, in some scenes the CGI animated shark looked good and was actually a nice addition to the movie. And then there were scenes where you just had to rewind and go back and watch the scene again while wiping away tears from laughing from witnessing such an atrocity on the screen. And get this, in order to make the CGI animated shark more menacing, the movie makers opted to have the shark growling in a low rumbling sound. That was just ridiculous beyond belief. If you enjoy hillariously bad shark movies then you are in for quite a treat, should you opt to sit down and waste 69 minutes on "Huge Shark". I, however, would strongly recommend against you wasting your time, money or effort on director Zhaosheng Huang's "Huge Shark" movie, because some of us did so you don't have to. My rating of "Huge Shark" lands on a two out of ten stars.

This movie proves america hasn't cornered the market on terrible, bad acted trash movies. There was literally so much trashy garbage, badly acted plotholes in this movie that if it were cheese it would be rotten swiss. AWFUL dialogue. Check. TERRIBLE green screen effects for the ENTIRE movie. Check. TOUCHING /HANGING ON that little boat deck lip thing, but not actually PULLING YOURSELF ONTO THE BOAT!! Check. Swim AWAY from the boat you are TOUCHING to another boat many, many yards away. Check. Dead girlfriend/sister. Check. ZERO mourning of dead sister/girlfriend. NONE. In fact, boyfriend gets UPSET that girlfriend was a bad girlfriend. Lady boss/new girlfriend is injured,in the water, but Dr sister tells her that if she just stays still, shark will not detect her. That is LITERALLY NOT how sharks work. A mole, maybe, but NOT a shark! ZERO urgency to get out of water when swimming from destroyed wooden boat to buoy, like there isn't a killer shark swimming around awaiting dinner. Weak noodle arms barely even trying to assist lady boss girlfriend onto buoy. Lady boss girlfriend dies. Duh. Buoy is SUPPOSED to have supplies-- has LITERALLY a half a bottle of water, yet a 5 gallon Jerry can of gasoline. Also,Dr sister holds a bottle of water like a psychopath. Dead of night, another yacht is spotted by lobe survivor Dr sister. First flare goes up,and PLUNKS INTO THE WATER. Second flare goes up, and no response from yacht. IT'S A RED FLARE,AT NIGHT,ON THE HIGH SEAS. HOW could they have missed it!?! Also Somehow there was an empty boat,a buoy,AND a GIANT ROCK all in the same tiny section of ocean. Acting is atrocious, dubbing is even worse. I hate this movie so much. Please spare yourself.
