We are living in such a troubled political moment that this film sounds personal and intimate, very realistic, the rottenness of politics, the misrepresentation of character by power, corruption, murder, family destruction, social inequality, the portrait of India, but what could well be Brazil and many other countries, a wonderful film, a perfect, real, sad, well-constructed plot, a tragic ending...

Its one of the best Indian political drama . It depicts harsh realities of politics of sub continent and if you look around . You can find many similar real life stories of political families and their bloody feuds among cousins or next generation after a successful journey of their forefathers and uncles. India and Pakistan both are filled with such real life stories of political families and history of bloody elections.

Oh my, i was expecting a flick, which would depict the entry of Sonia Gandhi into Indian politics, okay so they didn't, but did they bring a good movie? nope.. there was no plot - the story was going no where. i liked the intro though but that wasn't enough. they could have really used the same storyline but it wasn't a story. also, what's with all these intimate scenes popping in every now and then? I'm giving one point because they talked of politics - but i didn't see any "ruling" being done. a disgrace to Indian politics and cinema.

First things First Casting is terrible with a whole host of people who need to take a course or two in acting. Arjun Rampal cannot act and Katrina Kaif should not act. Ranbir Kapoor is very unconvincing as the be-all and know-all. Frankly he did a very good job in movies like Wake up Sid and Rocketsingh. Nana Patekar and Ajay Devgan are essentially wasted. Whoever is the actress playing Ranbir Kapoor's mother is absolutely awful. Manoj Bajpai hams as usual, but he is the only who essentially looks alright. The blame ultimately lies with the director. this film is made up of a million half-baked scenes which defy logic or reason. Very poor story-telling. I am surprised that the maker of Gangajaal and Apaharaan could make Rajneeti. One particular goof-up. the setting is somewhere in UP or MP and Ranbir's father wants to drive him to the airport. and the airport is Mumbai International airport. for a top-class director this is terrible.

Rajneeti script was a balanced mix of Mahabharata and Godfather, but it was supported by average dialogs and poor performance by Ranbir Kapoor. There are some strong performances given by Nana Patekar, Ajay Devegan and a very small but powerful one by Naseeruddin Shah. The first half of movie successfully portrayed a powerful political family's internal rivalry also India's current political condition where local satraps are the real power players in a region. In second half movie falls apart, and gets unrealistic. Be it politicians themselves doing the work of their goons or classical Hindi dialogs or revelation of "neeti"(rule of war) by "Krishna" (Nana Patekar) to "Arjun" ("Ranbeer Kapoor").Latter 2 over relate the theme to Mahabharata. I will give this movie 7/10. It would have got better but near the end of the movies one doesn't care who dies and who wins. Secondly there are sex scenes and apart from one b/w shruti seth and Arjun none is relevant to story
