Brilliant movie (Inc the rest of the trilogy) especially for those that love gritty euro crime films such as la haine + a prophet and so on. Realistic and captivating plot throughout with interesting characters that sit outside the typical clichés one would expect of an underworld crime movie.

All downhill from here in my opinion... Raw, exciting. Kim Bodnia nails it.

The movie Pusher is an excellent Danish production. It's about the drugdealer Frank, his carreer and problems with his Yugolsav suppliers. The overall atmosphere in the movie is quite dark and rough. You can feel you are in the criminal world. I think the strength in the movie is the realism. The people are shown as the coldhearted criminals they are. No glorification of these outlaws making fast money, which are "easy come, easy go", as Frank realizes to well in the movie. Thats why I like it so much. SEE IT!!

I briefly met the director of Pusher, and got tickets for a screening. Though Refn seems like a very bright man, it did not end up in the movie. I thought it was uninspired, boring, lacking scope and good craftmanship. It looks like something that was shot on video, and not film. Better luck with bleeder (and for god's sake, the cinemascope format has been invented)

When I saw Drive in 2011 (we took a random movie at a cinema in San Antonio on a roadtrip through Texas..) I didn't know NWR's work and was totally impressed right away. I later saw his other pre- and post-Drive works, including the Pusher trilogy, but this first installment and NRW's debut remains his all-time best movie: dark, haunting, a vile score, ultra realistic camera work, intelligent narrative, sublime editing and a fact that defines it a classic: I can watch it over and over again and still be caught up by it completely every time I put it on. Also, the Serbian gangsters are truly the most convincing (scary and funny) ones I have ever seen in a crime movie. I watched it with my Croatian ex girlfriend two years ago (she was an arthouse virgin:), and even she was impressed (read: shocked) by the language spawn by these villains... An absolute masterpiece! Buy it, because you want to see it again and again.

If I can make a feature, 1/10th as good as this one day. I can die a happy man. Together, with BRONSON. 2 of my favourite films, and so different in prodction design and tone. Pure class.
