I'm not a fan of modern country. I am more of a George Jones, Ray Price, Eddy Arnold kind of guy. I thought I would give this a shot because it sounded like a really good story. Certainly, the song "When Did You Stop Loving Me?" was the type of song I like. The King of Broken Hearts was magnificent, as was I Cross My Heart. George Strait can definitely act, and Isabel Glasser was someone I want to see more of. Sure, it was a little sappy, but the message was clear. Sometimes you have to go back to your roots and find out who you really are.

Not only is George Strait a giant in the country music world, but in Pure Country he also proves that he fairs pretty well in the acting world. A superbly written plot speaks to the ever-present conflict in country music between the new and the old, while the romance is well done, ending in the beautiful ballad, "I Cross My Heart." The music in Pure Country fits well into the story and doesn't feel out of place, as in some musicals. Lesley Ann Warren, Isabel Glasser, and Kyle Chandler (of Early Edition fame) all do a tremendous job of making the characters both believable and likeable. There were a couple scenes I could live without, but all in all Pure Country is pure excellence.

This movie was very enjoyable. I found the acting to be reasonable, the music great and the storyline believable. It held my attention for its entirety and watching it was a pleasure not a chore. I would definitely recommend it to country music lovers. The actors were credible in the roles and this movie contained no unpleasantness (eg unnecessary violence, swearing etc). This is a movie which could be enjoyed by all ages of viewer. It is a foot-tapping experience and was greatly entertaining. George Strait is an excellent country music singer and in this (his debut acting role) did a very good job. I would like to see any others he may have made since.

I didn't think I would like this one, but got fooled. George Strait gave a good performance as a burned out country singer who meets a girl at a bar. Romance blossoms, but they get on the outs with each other. Meanwhile, Strait is having troubles on another front. His manager wants him more flashy, while he wants to be just a good ol boy. Plus, one of his roadies is trying to use his band as a stepping stone to the big time. The show provides a mushy, tear jerking ending for all the lovelorn out there.

Not only for George Strait fans. Not just for country fans. But it doesn't hurt. Music, romance and a simple plot. Dusty(Strait)is a country super star that is falling out of favor with how his manager(Lesley Ann Warren)is producing his concerts with smoke and explosions. He decides to take a little walk to get away from it all for a while. He rediscovers his "roots" and along the way falls in love with a pretty barrel racer(Isabel Glasser). The finale is predictable, but touching. A very good soundtrack featuring such tunes as "Heartland", "Where the Sidewalk ends" and the movie's big finale number "I Cross My Heart". Strait does show some acting ability; but then again he plays a character no too much unlike himself. The perky and pretty Glasser is to fall in love with. Also in the cast are Kyle Chandler, John Doe and veteran cowboy star Rory Calhoun. Even if you are not a country music fan PURE COUNTRY is more than tolerable. Relaxing and easy to watch.

George Strait, Lesley Ann Warren and Isabel Glasser star in this 1992 drama. This focuses on country singer, Dusty (Strait) who is getting tired of the new-age performing arts. He decides to take a break from the limelight by going back to his roots and soon, he finds romance with woman, Harley (Glasser). His long-time friend and manager, Lula (Warren) searches for him and learns that he's found love. During Dusty's absence, Lula secretly replaces him with song writer, Buddy (Kyle Chandler) who tries to get money off the whole thing. Eventually, Dusty sets him straight and gets back in the grove performing the way he wants. This is a good romantic drama and George is great in it. I recommend this.
