I can appreciate movies with subtitles from foreign countries and specially the ones in which the subtitles are weak and don't really seems to follow the story or really make sense, but this movie had too many parts that didn't really make sense.
All in all, i can admit to a few scary and freaky parts, but they are repetitive, i felt like i was watching a loop trailer; seems like it was a short film shot with different actors.
In the veins of RINGU and GRUDGE but not even close the the hype...the excessive length killed the thrill.
Unless you are a die hard fan of these types of movies (wich i thought i was), don't waste your time on this one.

Pulse (2001) is a Japanese movie that I recently watched on HBOMAX. The storyline follows people as they discover a dark web where something inside the internet is trying to get out. Where are these spirits from and why are the people that discover them their target?
This movie is directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure) and stars Kumiko Asô (Samurai Resurrection), Koyuki (The Last Samurai), Shun Sugata (Kill Bill), Shô Aikawa (Gozu) and Kôji Yakusho (13 Assassins).
This is a very dated movie which is evident by the computers and dial up internet connections shown throughout the film. That aspect did make me smile. The ghosts/spirits in and out of the computer were very average and not as good as similar Japanese films like Ringu and Ju-on. The storyline also could have been better executed.
Overall this storyline had potential but falls flat due to poorly executed horror elements. I would score this movie a 5/10 and recommend skipping it.

Similar to films like Red Desert and Eraserhead in the sense that its primary concern is to document emotional anguish within an abject, industrial environment. Unlike the other two films, Pulse fails because of its heavy handed and awkward emotional prodding. It starts out well enough with an effective tone and ability to conjure up haunting images. However, as the story begins to evolve, and the narrative hammers on its themes, the overwrought emotionality becomes more and more unbearable. There's a wonderful portrait of loneliness buried within the film's concept, unfortunately it lacks the subtlety and depth to even begin to bring it to life.

This film starts off with a mother and daughter traveling together and both of them are not getting along because of her mother getting a divorce and the daughter feels sorry for her dad.
As this couple travel, the daughter is kidnapped by a very strange group of young people and the mother soon finds out that it is a group of people who are well organized in dark mysteries and spiritual powers that can transform people into all kinds of creatures that love to enjoy drinking blood and all sorts of sick dark acts of lust.
This is not your average horror film, but it is worthwhile viewing even if it does not make any sense.

Well the movie took a while to get started. Once the effects came... i didn't get any scares out of them.
i guess this is better than ghosttrain or cello the hanged guy didn't look real... (watch traces of death (not faces) collection for some real looking bodies =D=D=D they are real).
the picture in the webcam is like 3500 x 2000 WTF =P=P=P webcams usually have crappy picture...
i hate phone, TV, and similar scenes... they are just used up...
production values are pretty good for japhorror.
you won't be missing much if you don't see this one. if you are a teenager once again... one of those ordinary people who watches dr phill maybe then this will work.
don't get me wrong i've seen worse, but this one is not good.

...left with an existential crisis.
This movie seems to predict the era of loneliness when communicating has never been as easy. It deals with themes of relationships, depression and suicide.
It does, however, in a painfully slow way. So if you're looking for lots of action and ghosts all around, this is definitely not the movie you're looking for.

Would be promising if it were a student film. Never seems to know where it's going next, as if they decided on each next scene as they were making the film. As a result, much repetition and a deadening pace. There's an absolutely confusing procedure by which the ghosts affect people in this world: it involves the internet, phone calls, a computer science experiment, a suspicious grad student, withdrawn behavior, red rooms, dark stains, and _then_ suicides. Good luck figuring out the connections, or when a character is a ghost yet or just acting strangely. Characters are barely sketched, which could be OK, but they're completely uninteresting. It's far too long and ends just when it reaches a promising scenario, although the conclusion is nonsensical. Weakest moment: when "the boss" sits down to give some incoherent advice.
