Sometimes it's a little rough around the edges and I'd be lying if I said it managed to land every punch, but it's an immensely satisfying and thought provoking movie that will touch your heart.
Its approach and execution demonstrates that of Japan's unique culture. The train of thought is often perplexing to follow although I find this to be a benefit to the message.
Its multi-layered offering will almost certainly be appreciated by all ages.
What a wonderful approach to a well trodden path!
Please watch this.

I rented this movie in the video store for my six year old daughter. It carried the Disney label and had some cute raccoons on the front. The movie started out with a narrator talking in a dry, boring, documentary style about developers destroying raccoon habitat in the 1960s to expand Tokyo. Then the raccoons form two armies and square off against each other. Suddenly they transform into Ninja, Sumo, and Samarai raccoons - male raccoons drawn anatomically correct and without pants. Violence and mayhem ensued and I hit the stop button as soon as I got over the shock of the visual assault on my six year old.
The Disney label used to mean something. I thought I could count on a Disney movie being suitable for the whole family, but not anymore. I'm sure the violence in this move will appeal to boys between the ages of 10 and 12, but I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone else.

After watching almost all Ghibli movies (many times over) I finally got round to this one. Although I expected a more childish cartoon after reading other reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only I enjoyed the animation and beautiful artistic work of this picture, it made me laugh and tear up as well as I couldn't help myself as to get touched from time to time. Overall a brilliant piece and people who love animals and animations would most certainly enjoy it as it makes even death seem to as gruesome as we, humans, take it. We have a few things to learn from raccoons. As other Ghibli movies, this one has the same charm about it - from the way it is drawn to the plot, which is witty, insightful and always has a moral to it. A great way to educate kids (and adult beans) to respect nature and all living creatures.

Summary : The passage of a story sounds just like an animal against a human in over a region and land of origin, with a packed storyline full of heavy dialogue dialogue, it is an animated film with a narrative and a story that is almost "adult" in its natural sense.Although there are some parts with funny and ridiculous scenes. What Is this movie about?is it greed and selfishness on this earth? Does it show us that animals are just living creatures that want to survive as much as we do? Is that a moral imposition? Do we have to change who we really are in order to survive?.
Critics ( subj ) : Pacing (The movie can be a little slow sometimes)hehehe

I Have Seen All Of Studio Ghibli's Movie's.... Honestly This Movie Is NOT At The Top And NOT At The Bottom.... If I Had The Place The Movie Here Is Where I Would Place It- 1. Grave Of The Fireflies 2. Ponyo(On The Cliff By The Sea) 3. Spirited Away 4. My Neighbor Totoro 5. Princess Mononoke 6. Howls Moving Castle 7. Kiki' Delivery Service 8. Laputa: Castle In The Sky 9. Whisper Of The Heart 10. Porco Rosso 11. Pom Poko~~~~~~~~~~~ 12. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 13. My Neighbors The Yamadas 14. The Cat Returns 15. Only Yesterday 16. Tales From Earthsea
Pom Poko Is NOT A Bad Movie, Its Just Not One Of My Favorites Although The Animation Is So Beautiful!Overall It Is Still A VERY Good Movie!

Suspiciously lame political message from the overrated Ghibli. The narcissistic writers prove what a moral cesspool their city of Tokyo is by trying to convince the audience that all Life on planet earth must adapt to the sadistic whims of idiot bipeds. I'm sure Tokyo's construction contractors showed their gratitude to Takahati and his cringing assimilationist rhetoric. At least one character pulls through this blatant environmentalisn't propaganda with his soul intact - Gonta: a hero with balls big enough to take on dump trucks. Go Gonta! If he could pull off a few more Fukushimas, Japan might be suitable for life again in another 2000 years.
