I grew up when the Pokemon craze began I collected the cards and watched the tv show but I have yet to watch a Pokemon movie until now. For a first Pokemon movie retelling of Ash's first journey I thought it would be an interesting take. Now that i've watched this movie. This movie is hella boring. Ash is still corny that's ok. The side characters are still corny and that's ok. The story is just boring. It can work but the story is one boring ride. There is no Misty or Brock. The legendary team Rocket basically make a short cameo. With no antics, Koffing or Ekans. The show have only a couple references from the original. Diglet appears but they did not use the original fun Digley call. The only good is the animation its colourful and bright. Final Verdict: This movie is a pass. Its boring and does not provide anything for original old fans.

i went to see this movie with no expectations and i wasn't disappointed. clearly there were few flaws but nothing major that"ll make you hate this movie. It's basically a retelling version about Ash and Pikachu's journey like the first episode when they see Ho-oh and Ho-oh drops a rainbow wing making Ash the Chosen one and the main plot of the movie is to search for Ho-oh and battle it. Overall i thought the journey was exciting and nostalgic like when Ash caught his caterpie and finding an abandoned Charmander and raising him after he saved him. It was similar to Ash's journey in Kanto but focusing more on finding Ho-oh than Battling Gym leaders. Ash meets 2 new friends to accompany him on his quest along with Team Rocket making a cameo but never fully encounter Ash and Crew and a piece of S**t trainer who is Ash's rival. This movie had many emotional moments, which made me teary (i'm a 25 yr old Man) and many good feel moments that make you glad you are a Pokemon fan. Yeah this movie isn't perfect by any means considering it was only 1 and a half hrs long, and Ash's team is limited to a few pokemon favorites (Pikachu, Charizard, and Butterfree). This movie is a bit rushed but I think what disappointed a lot of people is they think they would be watching the Indigo League all over again and Brock and Misti aren't in the movie etc etc. This isn't bad as people make it out to be, i think their just whining because they thought this movie should be just like Ash's journey in the Kanto Region but if that were the case the movie would be worse and predictable and it would be a waste of time. Overall this is one of the better Pokemon movies I've ever seen and the animation and battle scenes are superb so if you get a chance to see it you should. Also don't be weirded out if your one of the older generations that fell in love with the series. i went in the movie theater and their were more adults than families lol.

I have not much to say about this pile of s...! Pointless remake. Terrible storyline. By far the worst thing I have ever watched. From being the worst thing to of been made in the franchise, who the hell thought a talking Pikachu was a great idea. It screams cheap. It was ok until just after charmander was introduced. Then it crashed hard! Waste of time

This is my new favorite Pokémon movie. Way more better than these other modern Pokémon movies.

This was pretty bad. They included stories from the original show, but mixed them together without a cohesive structure or the emotional weight they originally carried (due to them being shoehorned in for this movie). They included Ash, Pikachu, and Professor Oak, but also included some weird Brock and Misty wannabes (I'm only a fan of the original series. Sue me.) They put Team Rocket in, but only as comedic relief to get kicked off-screen every few minutes. Also, what was up with James' voice? Super creepy. They also didn't use any of the old voice actors for these original characters (or at least I heard them that way). They put in Ho-oh but made the story about Ash being a chosen one, but then he wasn't the chosen one anymore for some reason (I fell asleep intermittently throughout the second half of the movie). They put in this cool-seeming old training guru but made him over the top (in a bad way) and unintentionally funny. They made Marshadow the main villain for some reason. Terrible movie that is only slightly redeemed by how cool the battle sequences are and how cute Pikachu is. A big disappointment. Please re-release the original animated movie and I'll go watch that again. Make it 3D or IMAX or something for a gimmick.

It's a shame I have to say this, but I absolutely hated this movie. I wanted it to be good, or at least wanted to like it, but it's all just one big mess. The original story has been butchered with new stuff forced in, which is of varying quality. Most new characters are predictable or uninteresting, plotpoints get resolved before the viewer has any interest and the story has loads of cringy stuff that absolutely did not have to be there. The animation is fantastic at times, the artstyle is pretty good, but some key moments are around 5fps, which makes it very hard to see whats going on (and it looks really cheap) Small spoiler here but the weirdest thing about the movie is the vibe between Ash and Pikachu. It wasn't like this in the original show, they were just really good friends, but these versions of the characters are a little too close I get why they had to update the story, as the world has become 10x as big as it used to be, but they only had one chance to do this right, and this is a spectacular failure

I was pretty excited about this project. The thought of experiencing the golden era of Pokemon again but in a visually upgraded format and experiencing some of it's "greatest hits" was very appealing. But then I watched the movie. I don't mind the changes they made..well actually I do. I WOULDN'T mind the changes if it meant getting an upgrade story-wise, but the writing was piss-poor and actually seemed really rushed towards the end and sloppy as hell. I wouldn't even mind the fact that they replaced Misty and Brock with some randoms and gave Team Rocket like 2 minutes of screen time if it would contribute to their vision of this installment of Pokemon, but it was just so disappointing. The only thing that I actually liked about this movie was the visual appeal to it. They did a decent job with that, but pretty much everything else felt off. There were a few nostalgia trips that I kinda liked, but everything was so random and out of place that I just couldn't get into it. It's unrealistic to expect from anyone to be able to stuff dozens of hours into a 90 minute movie, but then again it couldn've been done SO MUCH BETTER. This was such a cool idea and had a lot of potential, but they blew it. I was really disappointed with the end result.
