What a heap of crap! That should be enough of a review as their are no redeeming features to this mess. The worst thing of all is how it's marketed to suck you in to see it in the first place, I mean IMDb's description 'A cop investigates the case of a missing local teen.....' is very misleading - yes a cop does investigate - for about 5 minutes of the movie. In fact the only reason this description is used is because the cop in question is played by Christian Slater, and of course it's Slater's name that carries the movie, the only reason why you might want to watch this. That being said, Slater's role is very minimal, he basically plays a sick pervert cop for a very brief part of the movie - yup, not the impression the description would have you believe. The story is predictable from the start, contains only 'jump' scares and well.........nothing more to say really, this really is crap. What happened to your career Slater?

I'm a humongous horror fan. Hostel and Saw are amazing. So when I saw this at family video, I thought why not? I absolutely love Johnny Pacar, so I knew it had to be decent, right? Right I was! The acting is solid, the gore is realistic, and the plot twists are believable. I read all the reviews beforehand and expected a stinker, but do NOT read most of the reviews. They're either making fun or they were expecting something else. Yes, there are plot holes. Yes, the ending is predictable. But it's fun, it made me jump a couple times, and the gore doesn't look ridiculously fake like most B movies! Will I watch it again? Heck yeah! Will I buy it? Possibly. Do I recommend it? Absolutely.

I loved this movie. The suspense, the cinematography, the music, everything. Definitely a horror movie for the shelves. I know it has gotten some bad reviews and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the bad reviews are just because it's not Christian Slaters BEST work. But come on, how can a guy top 3:10 to Yuma or the Dark Knight Trilogy? Christian Slaters performance in this film was far from bad. Also, I have to give a shout out to the guy who did the lighting. (I'd give you his name but I can't figure out how to open up a new tab on this library PC) Every scene was lit so well. The darks and the lights reflected Slater's emotions like a mirror. I was having flashbacks to The Fighter!

This movie dives right in at the deep with the character Harlan Diehl, covered in blood and dirt, moving through a house with a video camera. While cutting between the normal lens of the filming camera and the hand held device, you hear screams of anguish in the background. It was a very promising and brutal start. It shortly drifts into mediocrity, except for the role of Quinn, who soon becomes effected by the video footage he watches while doing some research for Julian. In mean time, Julian and Riley run around, like teenagers do, trying to find more information on the killer Harlan Diehl, much to the disapproval of Julian's mother. Enter officer Frank Lyons, an average cop with some questionable extra curricular activities. Christian Slater actually plays a very small role in the movie. There's an old saying - "there are no small parts only small actors." Unfortunately, the later applies to Slater's part in the whole proceedings, which is a real shame as Slater has been great in certain roles over the years. On the plus side, the movie has some decent eerie moments and actually made me jump at one point. The visual effects are good and there's a bit of blood along the way too. The bad points, although they don't spoil the movie, the acting isn't great, but the story keeps you interested, and it does get a little predictable towards the end. With a storyline based on the notion of the ability of photography to capture souls, it goes one step further with the use of video and as it turned out, this movie was better than average. Celebrate! After a few really bad flicks coming from After Dark finally they have put one on the "to see" list. I liked it because it really had some suspense in it and it even had a few surprising plots in it. As for the fallen angel Christian Slater I must say that he still looks like years before and he still can act. Naturally his time for being a star is over for so many reasons but he showed that he still can act and deliver. Playback isn't a flick for everybody because it do got some supernatural feeling over it. But if you can take that then you are really in for a treat. It started rather nasty with a decent killing but luckily it didn't drop after the credits. I can understand that a lot of people will have problems with Quinn (Toby Hemingway) as nothing is really explained why his face do looks like some kind of zombie. But it just didn't bother me and I liked his performance. I also never thought that it would have some nudity in it. Here and there there's a peeping tom into a dressing room for girls and you are invited to watch the juggs, even in the first seconds when brutality takes place some juggs are out there. Not only that, the horror was in tact with a few gory shots. And the red stuff did flew frequently. Of course being full of teenagers this is clearly made for teenagers. But still I enjoyed it and wanted to know what was going on. I must agree that you couldn't care who's being killed or who survives, therefor the characters aren't going to deep to be involved with them. Still, finally a better After Dark entry, again, not for everybody but if you come across it, give it a playback. Gore 2/5 Nudity 1/5 Effects 3/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5

When a group of film students attempt to document the brutal history of their town's past, they unleash the evil spirit which inspired the rampage and must stop it's current rampage before it exposes the secret behind it's existence. This is overall a pretty lame and barely worthwhile effort. The only true sense of credit that this one really has is it's plot line about the body-hopping spirit that can only be transfered through video, which is pretty creepy and doesn't get used often-enough as a concept since it generates some really impressive moments here and there of the possessed beings out and about with their unknowing victims. Otherwise, this here is a gory, low-budget boring mess that seems to fling itself around in ten different directions without any sort of inner compass to determine what it wants to do, a low-budget feel that never lets it's full scope become apparent despite the feel it's going for and a laid-back pace that rarely lets on it's a horror film and never really goes for any sort of excitement or enjoyability. A true let-down and not really worth it. Rated R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Nudity and underage drinking.

"Now I know the reason he killed his whole family. He was possessed." While a group of high school students are making a movie for a class they begin to uncover a dark secret involving the town's past. When one student watches a tape of the event he goes through a change that affects everyone he knows. I have to start by saying that I was surprised with how much I enjoyed and was entertained by this. That said this is just above a B movie. The acting is actually not that bad and the effects are pretty good. The plot of the movie is a cross between "Mirrors" and "The Ring" and is as entertaining as those were. I really am surprised by how much I enjoyed this, but I had no idea what to expect going in. I know I'm rambling on this one but I really can't explain why I liked this so much but I did and I recommend this. Overall, a surprising movie that is actually one of the better B grade horror movies I have seen lately. I give it a B+

Playback – TRASH IT (C) Playback is a horror film with very little potential. The whole story of devil transforming from generation to generation via screen is little too much even for this indie horror. First thing first I still cannot believe that Christian Slater will take a role of pedophile in a C graded movie. It's better to not do anything rather than shaming his name (whatever is left after "Alone in the Drak") into dirt. It stars some of the not very famous yet good looking tween stars Toby Hemingway, Jonahtan Keltz, Johnny Pacar, Jennifer Missoni, Luke Bonczyk, Alessandra Torresani and Ambyr Childers. Overall, it's a gruesome time passer but bad lighting and not very impressive story and performance makes you bore. Simply ignore this one.

I wasn't really expecting much from this movie, just a normal every day teen killing slasher. It's all horror movies seem to be these days yet I still can't keep myself away from them. Guess I'm just waiting for that one movie to blow me away. Sadly, this was not that movie. Not a terrible story line, once it started it had me intrigued instantly but the plot never really explains the story-line. It never explains why that guy is killing everyone since it turns out he is not the baby in the cot at the start. It turns out the good guy is the baby in the cot. It ends suddenly too and doesn't show anything after all that happens. Was an alright watch, won't watch it again in a hurry but I wouldn't throw it to the bottom of my pile.
