Caught this on iTunes and was pleasantly surprised. In all honesty I didn't expect much but I did hear some good things about it before going in. Bottom line - it was good. I decided to check IMDb out and was a bit shocked at some of the hate on for the film. After reading some of the user reviews I thought, "Did you see the same movie"?? Come on, some of these complaints are ridiculous. Bad Special Effects? I don't think so. They looked great. Bad Cinematography? Ummm, what?? Looked great. Yes, you can totally tell this is an indie film. It's not Batman vs Superman. They obviously didn't have a big budget but for what it is, it's great. Looking a little deeper, I'm guessing the haters are not haters (plural) but one hater doing multiple reviews. Now, having said that, I think some of the other reviews may be a bit over-glowing and I get the sense that maybe some family/friends of the film are involved so I think in the end, go somewhere in the middle. A 7 for sure! Horror fans will like. I know I did!

I didn't know what to expect going into this...yes, it's low budget but i give the filmmakers cred for pulling off what they did. It is just a lot of fun. I've seen a couple *-horror type movies and they are just bad. Peelers actually has a story line and it flows well. You get to know the characters and while they aren't necessarily going to win any academy awards, they do decent performances. It's definitely a different take on the zombie genre while still endearing itself to the genre in many ways. There are definitely some over-the-top antics but who doesn't love that/expect that in a horror film? The main character, Blue Jean is just awesome. While I'm sure many women will take one look at this film and get their feminist panties tied into a bunch, they should overlook their biases and give it a chance because Blue Jean (Wren Walker) kicks butt, takes names and plays ball. SHe's not a damsel in distress but rather a woman who takes charge, is smart, plays sports and leads. It is sure is nice to see. Anyway, don't let the low budget aspects of this film ruin the pure fun it is to behold. Had a blast watching it.

It's been a long time since I have been able to label a film as 'fun', Peelers is hitting the scene with some much needed Splatter Gore! It's funny, gory and fills an appetite for a solid Saturday night film.
In the wake of previous zombie/* combinations (Zombies, Zombies, Zombies & Zombie Strippers) Peelers actually gets the combination right, it knows when to bring the noise, it knows when to build some tension and ultimately it knows what to deliver, gore, action, and unsurprisingly in a film where there are strippers........tits!
Producer Sevé Schelenz who seems to mainly have a TV background editing for a countless number of shows, sends a clear message to the horror scene – this is how to make a gory, light hearted horror comedy!
Former baseball star 'Billie Jean Douglas' is trying to enjoy her last night as a small-town strip club owner, a group of local miners come to the bar to celebrate one of the workers birthdays. The night seems to be going as planned until one of the workers goes to the bathroom and suffers a belt of exorcism projectile vomit – spraying a black tar like substance.......well everywhere! As the night starts to take a turn for the worst Blue Jean asks one of the group what has happened and we are given an explanation of what the miners discovered - an 'oil' like goo which seems to infect people......it slowly starts to spread around the strip club and becomes a fight for survival to see who can make the night!
Yes the plot is as simple as it sounds but it doesn't need to be complicated, I'm glad to see that the focus is on gore and comedy rather than a complex story which would not suit the film. There has clearly been a lot of thought in to the finer details of the film, the pacing is absolutely spot on, every moment where things seem to slow down a little we are given some character development or gore......or nudity! Naturally the first quarter of the film does play out as an introduction but it doesn't take long to get going and when it does the action sticks around until the very end.
Wren Walker as Blue Jean plays a great female lead and is a badass in her own right, in fact the majority of the cast all play standout performances which I am struggling to fault. Don't get me wrong there are a few wooden moments, Caz Odin Darky as club bouncer 'Remy' bears the brunt of the awkwardness, with some lines of dialogue which simply shouldn't have made the final cut........something just didn't work for Caz, his physique suits the role but his face is more male model than male bouncer!
Peelers absolutely exceeds in the gore department, it's not conventional 'blood' rather a black tar like substance which seems to be in abundance. Violent vomit episodes, decapitations, gunshot wounds and a handful of other creative deaths all fit the bill perfectly – there are a couple of moments of what I call 'dodgy CGI' which I felt personally did not fit in with the practical prowess of the entire film – ultimately this use of CGI was outshone by the practical FX and should have been left as is.
Now these aren't zombies in the normal sense – more infected than blood thirsty, they don't seem to feed on humans more to kill and maim. Usually at this moment I would be giving a speech about how they're not Romero zombies or something similar but it's really not necessary here, these infected are unique in their own manner and there's no need for comparison.
Overall Peelers is a thoroughly enjoyable horror/comedy with enough gore and nudity to entertain even the most casual horror fan, a much needed splatter entry to start 2017 with a gooey-bang!

I went to Swapping Dead in Seattle and saw this movie there. After the movie, the writer and the director told everyone about how they made the film and a bunch of other cool stuff. It was really pretty cool. The film was pretty cool too. I knew it was an independent film and so didn't expect much. I think the thing that got me was how great it looked. You could tell a lot of time and money was spent on the camera work. The story was great and really fun. It had some good characters and flowed really well. And the blood. Wow! There were a lot of kills and they were cool too! I'm so glad I had a chance to see it and was very surprised and entertained by the movie makers afterwards. Good job! You should see this if you get the chance. Especially if you like action horror movies.

Look, the gore is good. The story is passable, especially if you consider the political commentary associate with oil use, etc.
But wow, is the cinematography terrible.
Minor characters look and sound like they've been plagiarised from the Stereotype Handbook - the Oriental bald chef with broken English.
The major characters are basically 2D - the striper's son, despite numerous reference to being a player, looks and sounds like a secret pitcher, which is the upper bar of the kind of jokes you can expect.
VagFarts, Diapers, idiotic themes, typically moron bouncer on counterfeit Chinese steroids with unresolved sexual issues that the lead obviously doesn't notice despite having a near-clairvoyant deduction ability when it comes to the films plot.
You're starting to get the idea I assume? Skip this.

Just saw this in Ohio last week at the Indie Gathering Film Fest and it was a blast. Crowd was totally into it. Lots of fun for the whole family. I'm kidding. There are things in here you really don't want your kids to see. Hell, there are things I wish I hadn't seen either, haha. But that's why we go to horror movies in the first place, isn't it? Don't worry, I won't give anything away. If you get a chance, go see this movie. The women in the film are not your usual damsels-in-distress cry-babies. Not that they're not upset when poop hits the fan, but they're not helpless either. When they need to step up, they step up and don't wait around for some beefcake guy to save them. It's a nice change. Not bad at all for a low budget indie film.

The Plot. A small town strip club owner named Blue Jean, must defend her bar, her strippers and her life when several patrons become increasingly violent and wreak havoc on the final closing night.
What's with all the positive reviews? These clowns must have worked on the picture.
The movie takes FOREVER to get moving and all the cleavage and random bare breasts ain't gonna keep your attention. Thirty minutes into the movie and STILL nothing has happened.
To be honest, the film is a bit of a rip of of From Dusk Till Dawn, but no where near as good. And with really bad special effects.
