I just watched Parallax encouraged by reviews, both here and elsewhere, and I'm terribly dissappointed. Is this somekind of a guerilla marketing campaign with all those 9/10 reviews? The movie is based on an interesting collage of, let's say, a bunch of fuzzy reality ideas. None of them are actually original, I'll skip details to avoid spoilers but suffice to say we know them already from other films. However, if delivered properly this could have been a good experience nonetheless. Unfortunately this did not happen and the only good things I find in this film are the lead actress performance and music. Cinematography could also deserved praising if only they have not decided on reusing just a handful of identical shots almost in a repeating pattern. All actors' performance is bad (except for the lead one) and dialogs are unrealistic. The storyline is very slow, maybe even boring but that's not the problem, there are lots of movies that are probably too slow but overall turn out very good. The bad part here is that for the 3/4 of a movie it keeps the same slow pace and is generally consistent in it, only to suddenly change into some lower-then-B-grade student's action movie in the end. Did the screenwriter's dog ete their only copy of a script book a night before shooting and they had to improvise or something? Seriously, the director and the screewriter should consider career change - I believe it is the same person so that explains why we've got so many issues related to acting, dialogs and plot at once in this film.

Parallax is a beautifully shot sci-fi thriller that contains many thought-provoking concepts on mental health. The opening scenes, in which we come to understand the depressive state of the main character, Naomi, are both chilling and heart-wrenching.
For such a low budget film, the cinematography really stands out. The imagery in the water scenes were especially captivating.
But by far, the highlight of film was the performances by the lead actress, Naomi Prentice, and supporting actress, Hattie Smith. Their chemistry was palpable and made the emotional beats of the film all the more poignant.

That's the only logical explanation for the exaggerated rating of this "movie''. The movie tries to be all metaphysical and mysterious but it ends up being long and boring.
I had a hard time finishing it.
The acting is mediocre. The 2 main actors are like High school level actors. The dialogue is laughable and so poorly delivered that it made me uncomfortable. Seriously, don't waste your time watching this one, may as well re-watch one of your favourite movies than this snooze fest. Clearly one of the hardest movie I've suffered through. I know all I've written is the opposite of the other 14 reviews but, Hey...I didn't work on this movie.

Alright look, I'm not a movie person by any means, but i actually I really enjoyed this film. It offers real and raw perspectives on mental health and human connection that you don't really get to see too often. I was fully prepared for the camerawork, coloring, sound, acting, etc to be messy since it's an indie film but WOW? It felt so immersive and professionally well-done for such a small project!
Im not gonna lie, it took a minute to get me hooked as the first act felt a bit slow to me, but I found myself coming up with so many questions as the film went on and to be completely honest, I probably need to watch it a few more times to get some/any of them answered, there's def a mystery to be solved here.

Story was a slow progression into madness, plenty of tension and feelings of frustration shared with the main character. Following her through multiple worlds, it's the first movie in a long time I truly didn't know where it was leading!
The ending was a huge payoff! I think I'm going to have to watch this a couple more times to catch all the subtle details the director and DP sprinkled throughout in order to clue you in. There's definitely a really well curated visual story here, and I loved it!
The lead actor's were really great at creating the atmosphere of familiarity and at the same time distance. It's one of those movies you can't just watch once to really appreciate it. Nice work to everyone involved, a beautiful piece of art!

Parallax breaks away from the typical formulas used today by Hollywood and delivers a truly thought provoking film. It is gripping from its opening scene until its powerful final act. Strong performances by the entire cast and a unique visual style will ensure audiences walk away with a positive experience. The story is complex and Bachochin tells it masterfully.
I came into the film knowing nothing about the film's plot or genre. I was thoroughly surprised by how intriguing the story is from the start. The film establishes a great pace and never slows down.
I highly recommend Parallax to anyone! The film tackles serious topics and will have your mind engaged even after the film ends.

At first, I wasn't really sure where the story was going. Shots and scenes felt jarring an disconnected. But it quickly becomes obvious that was by design. As the narrative picked up steam, I became fully immersed in the cinematic language the director and cinematographer had developed.
Naomi Prentice delivers an enthralling performance as our lead. It is an incredibly difficult challenge for an actor to keep an audience engaged with a seemingly emotionless character. And yet, there is an element to this performance that is deeply emotional.
If you want to watch something that will surprise you, definitely check this one out.
