However, is he also going down the Samuel L. Jackson route of being typecast? If so, this would be a shame for one of the truly great actors of his generation.
Cast as the cop who is being frames for a murder and theft of drug money, he battles away to hide and conceal evidence from his homicide detective wife.
And that's the highlight of the film ... Eva Mendes. Truly gorgeous!

Decently entertaining and suspenseful movie for the most part. but also outdated with the music, cheesiness, and dumb things you have to let slide. felt like a straight to dvd movie at times (about 3 viewings)

You can ignore this film ,exept if you are the fan of Denzel Washington, cause this film is poor in motives ,and almost has no interesting new elements.Maybe just Denzel Washington average here.High Crimes is better from the director-(Carl Franklin)and focusing to more interesting things and show them in more interesting way ,that film is more than average. This film is solid, and has no enough twists, you won't find anything new here, the message is not too fresh.I feel like Carl did not want to make a bomb, and this is not matter ,but finally the film is not enough exciting, the twists are rather makes me feel like I had seen this film before.

"Out of Time" is pure Hollywood flimflam film fare in which Washington plays a small town cop in South Florida who is squeezed between a double murder and a homicide detective out of Miami who happens to be his estranged wife. On the downside, this flick is typical Hollywood specious nonsense from beginning to end. On the upside, it has Denzel, a couple of babes, lots of beautiful Florida scenery, and a twisty-turny intriguing plot which keeps moving while being punctuated with moments of humor and suspense. A solid DVD watch for those in the mood for a no-brainer mystery/drama which reeks of Hollywood. Put your brain in neutral, your body in park, and enjoy. (B)

This movie has it. Humor, tension, and suspence. Matt Whitlock(Denzel Washington) who is the chief of police in Miami, discovers that a woman he has been secretly seeing (Sanaa Lathan) and her husband (Dean Cain) where burned to death in there house. But as he begins to investigate, he must get rid of the evidence of their affair, before his soon to be ex-wife(Eva Mendes) also a detective, begin to close in on him, and they name him the big suspect. Okay maybe the plot seems similar to No Way Out(1987), but in some ways it's different. It has some cool plot twists. Denzel is memorable as always, so is the rest of the cast. Enjoy the film Denzel fans.

What really stands out for me about "Out of Time" is just how nicely it captures the hot and steamy locale of coastal Florida in the Summer, right down the sex scenes (with a score that perfectly suits). You can just feel the humidity. But aside from the stunning Eva Mendez, that's about it. The movie does kick into moderate gear with Denzel running interference between police and the mounting evidence of his involvement in the double homicide - which becomes preposterous at times, but solid direction keeps things moving. Still, the coincidences are absurd, and rob the movie of any depth. Plus, it's Dean Cain as the villain; a recent graduate of the Hasselhoff School of Goateed Bad Guy Acting.
6/10.
