This movie is similiar in theme to the hollywood movie "You've Got Mail" but has several poorly written scenes. All the actors performed well, especially the actress, she was perfect for the role.
The movie had potential of being a brilliant movie. the intial concept of the story is good but they go over the top with it..For example the lead actress compares faith in God to faith in love to writing to stanger, also she was ready to give up on life if she did not meet the lead actor.
Charactor building was good, comedy was below average, songs were ok, but the whole movie was ruined by the way the concept and story was delivered through the script. It felt rushed and little thought and effort of creativity to delivering the concept and scene writing, for example the way they had wriiten the scenes when the leading actors interacted with each other in person.
Overall very dissapointed becuase it has many good ingrediants to be brilliant but seriously lacked in some areas.

So sad that this movie did not get the limelight it deserved. Simplicity of life, love and friendship shown with such elegance. Supporting roles also well done by Johny lever, Kadar khan, Sushmita Sen.
Songs are also very good and meaningful.
There isn't a dull/boring moment in the film. Maybe salman khan's role is a force fit but seems ok considering the way marriages are done in 90s in smaller towns like Nainital.
Priya Gill and Sanjay Kapoor also show their acting talent beautifully, strange that both didn't make it big in Bollywood despite this film.
Overall for a south Indian director to have imagined this in Delhi and having been able to showcase the depth of the city is also commendable.

If you liked "You've got mail," you'll love Sirf Tum. The plot is very similar except it uses snail mail. I liked Sirf Tum, a story of two people who fall in love through the mail, much better because it is beautifully photographed, has great songs and dances, uses various parts of India (especially Southern India)to great advantage, and the acting, even from Johnny Lever, is top notch all the way. A little bit of Johnny Lever can go a a long way but he was only in the 1st half and was even fun to watch. The two leads, Sanjay Kapoor and Priya Gill, are fascinating in every frame. They are ably supported by everyone else in the cast.

Boney Kapoor has made his career doing south remakes, and also trying to relaunch his brothers again and again. It worked with Anil with whom Boney gave several hits, With Sanjay Kapoor too he tried to recreate the magic, Though Sanjay never became an Anil Kapoor yet this was perhaps one of their only hits together. The film is a remake of Kadhal Kothai a tamil film directed by the same director Ahathian. That film got a national award while this film was a hit. The film speaks about love through letters something which was done in several films after this, What this film boasts is simplicity and good romantic scenes and emotional moments. It does follow the clichéd route but yet there are scenes which are superbly handled, Also the manner in which it unfolds is superb The film also has cameos by Salman Khan, Gurdas Maan, Jackie Shroff to spice up things or perhaps to add to the value of the film.
Direction by Ahathian is good Music by Nadeem Shravan is terrific, Dilbar is superb and looks stunning, Pehli Pehli Baar is a good number but surprisingly the same tune was used in the same year in Daag The Fire but yet the song is good Ek Mulaqat is seeped in emotions
Sanjay Kapoor is quite likable in his role, sadly he could never make it big, this was perhaps his 2nd solo hit after Raja and followed by Chuppa Rustam after which he started doing small roles and villain roles and again vanished Priya Gill who has vanished too now did a good job though her dubbing distracts at many places, Sushmita Sen who was a hot number those days did a good job too Amongst rest Salman Khan is his usual Prem self in a small role, Jackie Shroff is superb in his cameo, Amongst rest Jaya Bhattacharya who became famous on small screen later did a good job too
