There's always one of those days when you find a piece of "comedy" & "entertainment" film that simply does not entertain you or make you laugh at all, either the story, the characters, the gags used, etc. One night at McCool's is just a sample of a tragic try to make a very crazy movie with a dark comic atmosphere that in my opinion just didn't work at all. Liv Tyler, Paul Riser, Matt Dillon, John Goodman and specially Michael Douglas, make one of the worst all-around cast performances I've ever seen in my entire life. Robinson Almanzar.

I saw this movie as a sneak preview, so I absolutely didn't know what's awaiting me. After knowing the cast I thought "o.k., this is a safe one and can't go wrong". But then - the movie. After 20 minutes of slight boredom I thought the movie might have had a weak start, but it never got any better. Unfortunately it got even worse. There was this constant impulse to leave the cinema - a feeling I rarely have when watching a movie. Nothing in this story can really catch your attention, you just don't care what's happening. Hence, there's just no character you sympathize with, no one you might not like. You just don't care. It's a pity to see the potential of actors like these wasted in a boring and uninteresting movie like that. Only the ending saved it from the lowest rating. I rate 2/10.

One Night At McCool's is an extraordinary movie. This thing is genius, hats off to all involved. Immaculate demonstration of creative flame alive and well in American cinema. Seriously. There is information some might consider as a "spoiler" below. ************************************* ****************** Unfortunately, I was not able to keep my comments to the minimum I planned. But, I'm a team player. This story makes extensive use of archetype. In a way, this is a "perfect story". If you enjoy really very thoughtful film, do not miss this one.

I saw this film to see what all the hype was all about, plus I liked the title and cast. Ok, the beginning and middle is about 3 guys telling their story about this woman to someone. And we see what they talk about and how they met this girl at McCool's. Well the beginning and middle all build up to the end, because thats when it all takes off! I have never laughed so hard in a long time, the end is just amazing!! If you love to laugh and have a sense of humor go see this movie!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

I'm surprised by some of the bad comments people have made about this movie. It's good fun, and it's occasionally laugh-out-loud. Paul Reiser has never been funnier (his comic patter with his shrink is equal parts yuppie macho bluff and neurosis). Matt Dillon plays it very cool and he holds the film together. John Goodman is such a fine clown. And the soundtrack is clever and enjoyable. This movie is the kind of unpretentious piffle that Pauline Kael would have enjoyed while everyone else was knocking it. Check it out.

Dont expect a master piece. But for a boring rainy night its defenitedly worth your time. Nog a great story but quite Some funny moments. Great cast and thus great acting.
