After Earth is taken over by an army of robots, the small number of humans left are forced into hiding. In the nuclear winter, only droids walk the face of the Earth, in fear of the rumored human resurgence, and in search of a hidden cache of weapons. One robot, his evil circuits destroyed, enters a small town where a robot civil war is taking place. He tries to convince both sides to join forces in search of the weapons, all the while having a hidden agenda, and an affinity for one of the local droids.

This movie has both action, philosophy, and a kind of sensuous side to robots. If you look at Black Heart and her two followers, they are both deadly and sensual at the same time. Although the robots come off as not caring about life, they do show signs of caring, self preservation, aliances, and one robot even wants to see the sun set before she dies. Very interesting concept, and altough somber, it also holds hope for the future.

I enjoyed the film's surrealistic and somber tone. Like other Rutger Hauer movies (e.g. Blade Runner,) his character is both sensitive and tough, a mix of philosophy AND action. There is something very appealing about the poet-warrior, and Hauer plays him well. Additionally, the whole question of robot choice/emotion/hope works well for me. I gave the movie an "8," that is, a "B/B+". As B movies go, it was well done.

Omega Doom rocks with cheesy-ness. Any one who likes bad movies this is for them. I like this movie in a MST3K kinda way. It has bad special effects, bad acting, and a bad plot. If you like abuse then this movie is for you. The one good thing about this movie is the sound effect when the robots are about to fight.

Omega Doom, both movie and title character, borrows heavily from Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westerns, Peter Weller's Robocop, and Rutger Hauer's previous incarnation as an android/cyborg in Blade Runner. The soundtrack echoes Sergio Leone and the single set used for the destroyed town compacts the action sequences which do not take over film but instead move it along nicely. The use of strong female characters in the main supporting roles is refreshing and honest. Although derivative the film still entertains well.

Man-o-man does this movie suck a whole lot. It is so bad that its worth watching to laugh at it and pull an MST3K with friends. I don't know if its important or not, but the plot was lifted from Yojimbo and crunched into one day's time.

In a dark and dismal world, Rutger has obviously found passage through a land of endless fatty food buffets. This movie was bad enough on its own, but add a nearly comical robot to be cut to pieces, a gun, a bunch of women borrowed from a Robert Palmer video set (and almost as active), and a waddling Rutger Hauer; what do you have? Something Troma would have refused to release on their Sex & Violence office webcam.

'Omega Doom' really does have a special place in my heart. As movies go, it's not the best. It isn't even good. But... well, just watch the thing. There's no way you can sit through the whole sci-fi/western/inexplicable noise-packed experience without either beginning to love it or snapping and attacking bystanders with the remote. It's less of a movie and more of a game, to be honest. See how long *you* can stand the bizarre whirring sounds, played whenever each and every 'robotic' (translated from Low-Budget: contact lenses and metal gloves) character moves. Even when their eyes move, for god's sake! It's half endurance test, and half bad, bad movie. But watch it anyway.
