Ok, this goes out to all of you movie ppl. Car alarms are wicked fn annoying. Set the thing off, then shut it off. There's no need to let it run for a minutes. There's nothing going on there but you annoying the shite out of your audience. Seriously. {facepalm} Otherwise, the concept was good. I love a good alternative history jont. Good actors, good story, directing could have been better {see facepalm}. What I don't get is, you get these producers to back you and you have the time and ability to make a movie, and 95/100 times, they suck. But this one on its slim budget was good. Thanks for the trip!

I was suppose to watch this on the big tv , but it became available on tubi here in Australia during the night . So watched with my headphones on, in the dark, in bed, on my phone, while the Mrs and kids asleep . Sufficiently creepy story in a great setting in the north Wales countryside . I recommend watching with a friend , not alone in the dark hehe. Unless you like that type of thing . They say it was filmed during the lockdowns in the pandemic . Spoiler.... I'm sure the cop is one of the crazies in the mug shots at the beginning, or is that just me ........ A good watch Recommended.

First off, let's talk about what this film is not. It is not an action-based horror flick, and it is not a jump-scare bonanza. This is a slow, character-driven horror with a creeping dread that works its way under your skin as you try to solve the mystery. It is much more in line with the aesthetic brought by Cthulhu (2006), Black Mountain Side, or The Empty Man. If those resonate with you, then give this one a shot. I personally was prepared for this based on the director's previous short films. Each one is really focused on the human element, on the emotions of the situation. While that may drive a lot of people away from this, it's also what makes it great for the die-hard fans of cosmic horror. It's as intimate as a first-person Lovecraft story. Older Gods is ensnaring from the opening credits, and the pacing doesn't feel rushed or drawn out. For a film from a small crew, they seriously did an amazing job from concept to development. Keep an eye on everyone involved with this production. I have a feeling that they are all going to continue doing some great things in the future.

First time writing a film review so here goes... I really liked this film. Im not usually a big horror fan, but this actually seemed like it had something to say. Its about guilt and regret and is a bit more complicated than halloween / friday the 13th style slasher stuff which is what drawed my attention and kept me enthralled throughout. I think some fans of slasher stuff will like it but I think this is more for those people who like to pay attention to a film and have patience with build up to a climax. If you like 100 miles per hour films, cutting fast while splattering you with blood it, you might not be the patience for this. (there is the occasionaly blood though dont worry!) I was suprised i i loved it so much. Or at least that i was thinking about it for hours afterwards. Im going to watch it again at the weekend with a friend just so I can talk about it with someone! I think this wont have a big audience but a small, dedicated cult following through the years. I dont think its a spoiler but there is also an uplifting emotional scene that you dont see a lot in modern day horrors that are often too dark and bleak from beginning to end. Dont get me wrong this is very dark and often bleak but towards the end theres are moments of hope too. It seems a film festival darling than a big studio horror. Its not a art film by any stretch but its definitely strange and very different. Which im looking for as i feel films these days have got a bit 'template' and samey. What ever you think of this, you'll agree its different and should be appladed for 'taking a swing' i thought it was awesome.

OLDER GODS **** (out of 5) UK 2023 Dir: David A. Roberts 82 min Screener Chris Rivers (Rory Wilson) tries to investigate his friend Billy's (Ieuan Coombs) death. Billy knew this was coming and collated all his research into a mysterious cult. Older Gods begins as Chris arrives at an isolated cabin. The start to many horror films. Rory Wilson's performance was superb and really made this slow burner entertaining. He doesn't have much time off screen so it was great that he was charming and talented enough to take us on a wild ride. Whilst the opener is very typical of the horror genre, the rest of the film is brilliant and will leave you on the edge of your seat throughout. You can certainly see the Lovecraftian influence in the madness and curiosity as well as the religious aspect. The imagery created by the background music and cinematography created the haunting feeling we sense throughout. The mystery unravels at the perfect pace as Rivers learns more about the events leading up to his friend's death. This certainly won't be for everyone but if cosmic / cult horror is your thing, you can find this on Amazon Prime now.

"I knew not which to believe, yet longed more and more to cross forever into the unknown land; for doubt and secrecy are the lure of lures, and no new horror can be more terrible than the daily torture of the commonplace." Ex Oblivione, HP Lovecraft, 1920 Older Gods brings together a feel of existential horror, personal loss, guilt, madness and a razor thin thread of hope tied together with a beautiful soundtrack by Gerald Buckfield mixing Baroque and synth. There's a science/research plot that reflects a similar path of The "Mountains of Madness" that is balanced with a psychological pairing of "The Moon-Bog" and for any non UK viewers a splash that reminds the viewer of The Wicker-man, an unwelcome stranger in a foreign land. "My condition was now one of indescribable chaos. Not knowing whether I was mad or sane, sleeping or waking, I was saved only by a merciful numbness." The Moon-Bog For a smaller budgeted enterprise, the film quality is gorgeous. Eschewing the modern tendency to film everything in focus, the cinematographer uses a painterly fashion to guide the eye. Wide shots are lonely and terrifying. The camera lingers and waits for the viewer to feel angst. The lack of light or the use of golden filtered light sets mood. The prosthetics are well done and smartly cut into the film so it's not a gore fest for the sake of being gorey. The fake blood is of excellent quality. Rory also has the strange quality of getting better looking the more dirt they put on him. He also has a very passable American accent with very few slips. His anguish feels genuine and "open your face and tell the truth" applies to his skill set. Jon Keeble was a spot on perfect pick for the voice. He has gravel and tenor in his throat. A true callback to the styling of Orson Wells. I could listen to Keeble all day. The audio mix for the the entity also spot on. Not too much, not too little. My criticisms are light. I thought the cloth masks that were used were a touch out of place and when the phone was used the audio of the caller on the other end was too clear/loud. Overall, it was very enjoyable and a welcome addition to the genre.

Wow.... Older Gods, I couldn't take me eyes of you. They are now dry with the lack of blinking I feel I burnt a hole into the screen. My butt cheeks are numb and the edge of my seat might need a good fluffing up. That was a great watch. It was the spooky movie poster that first grabbed my attention to Older Gods, It doesn't really say much but it was unusually different to the other posters out there, the minimalism intrigued me so I watched the trailer, the growing creepy music, great visuals and fast pace, made me do it, I wanted to see more. This eerie, haunting, and emotional (YES... Emotional) cosmic horror really surprised me, the beautiful secluded surroundings pull you into the journey with Chris Rivers played by Rory Wilson and boy does he deliver. The chemistry from him and the other cast just works. You know a film is good when the time watching disappears and you still want more. I love it when I stumble across a hidden gem and this is certainly one of those. I would certainly recommend this thrill seeker. If you want to ride an emotional roller-coaster are fans of cosmic horror and drama then Older Gods is right up your alley.
