The opening credits are awesome!! I just love the way they bring the names out while that great music is playing. I really want to get my hands on the soundtrack. Short, sweet, and amazing actress Carol Kane plays Dorine Douglas, a lonely middle aged woman who is buried under big sweaters, clunky shoes and over sized glasses. She keeps to herself, barely talking to anyone and cringes at the slightest touch. Dorine lives alone with her elderly mother who is basically handicapped. Dorine works at Constant Consumer magazine which she has been working for the past 16 years. Dorine, along with many if not all employees, have been down sized to part timers due to a lack in funds. Dorine now has to work at home from her laptop. The last night at the office, Dorine runs into computer trouble and seeks help from one of her co-workers. A jerk who hates everything about her, Gary tries his best to make her feel uncomfortable and succeeds. After she returns from the bathroom, Dorine notices that Gary has been accidentally electrocuted. Here is where it all begins!! Instead of telling the police, Dorine takes his corpse to her house and sets him on a sofa in her basement. Now of course it's normal for one to think that this lady has got serious issues right from the get go but as the movie progresses you should tell yourself that words like 'crazy' and 'psycho' are total understatements. Dorine begins to feel a form of comfort for her loneliness after killing her boss and another co-worker along with a pair of 7 year old girl scout cookie sellers(Which I think was very screwed up). She sets each body in the basement and begins to talk to them and giggle to herself as if the dead people are talking back. Issues people....ISSUES!! We soon learn that Dorine's strangeness and discomfort comes from being sexually abused by her father when she was young. In one of the flashback scenes, we see that Dorine(as a child)has killed her father. Anyway, Doreen comes home one day and finds her elderly mother has died(No, she didn't do it!)but the way Doreen screams to her mom after her mom dies, is priceless. I love the way she goes from "Mommy don't go away...!!" to "I don't care...you and Daddy can dance in hell alright...hahahahaha!!" in a split second. Man, does this woman have major issues or what?! Molly Ringwald plays Kim, a co-worker who despises Dorine and is friends with co-worker, Norah(Tripplehorn). Is it very obvious that Kim doesn't like Dorine and it turns to a brutal fight in the stairwell once Kim has been fired from her job. Kim manges to escape Dorine's attempt to strangle her. Mean while Norah begins to befriend Dorine and on their way to have lunch, Dorine knocks Norah out and drags her home to the basement. Norah's boyfriend comes looking for her and heads to Dorine's house. He hears a noise in the basement. Dorine runs down there before he can and locks the door behind her. Norah runs to Dorine and freaks out when Dorine realizes Norah's secret: Norah is the reason why work is going bad. Norah has been secretly stealing money from the company thus causing the job cuts. Norah tries to escape and her boyfriend manages to break in the basement. Dorine kills him and after a long struggle, ends up killing Norah as well. The ending was a bit weak and could've been better but that's just my opinion. Carol Kane delivers one of the best performances I've ever seen!! I don't think an actor can portray a crazy/psychotic person as convincing as Kane did. You can't help but feel sorry for Dorine even after she goes on her killing spree. This movie was well acted and the plot, although silly at times, was good over all. After watching this movie I can only say that I hope no one tries to ever mess with quiet, mousy people. You just never know.

Crossing Over from Her Highly Successful Career as a Still Photographer, Cindy Sherman Directed this Lifeless, Lame, and Limp Horror Parody that is Boring and Bland and Except for a Couple of Interesting Scenes, Utterly Unwatchable. A Doctoral Thesis could be Written, maybe it has, about the Similarities and Differences between Still Photography and Cinematography. After All, Film is Literally "Moving" Pictures, thats why Initially they were Called "Moving Pictures". But what Sherman has done here is Demonstrate that it is a Different Aesthetic. It is Quite Surprising that a Renowned Photographer could make such a Murky Looking, Uninspired, Movie. It just Appears Flat and Vacuous. The Color Schemes are Dull, the Lighting Cloudy, and for the Most Part it is Styleless. The Acting is All Over the Place with Each Actor Giving a Performance that is Unconnected to the Other Players and the Film Itself. No One Seems to have any Direction and are Left to Their Own Devices. The Girl Scouts are Unsettling and Aside from the Opening Credits is just about the Only Time the Movie Rises Above Awful.

Photographer Cindy Sherman makes her directing debut in this long, boring horror/comedy about mousy proofreader Dorine Douglas (Carol Kane) who works for a magazine company that needs to lay off employees. Fed up with being everyone's stepping stone, Dorine bumps off her fellow coworkers and disposes the bodies in her basesment to better her chances of getting ahead. My evaluation: * out of ****.

Cindy Sherman, one of the most talented photographers and modern artists on the contemporary scene, directed this incredibly bad and thoroughly predictable slasher flick. Quite what the point of this exercise was eludes me...perhaps to provide employment for Molly Ringwald? A dreadful waste of talent.

This movie is about a woman who is kind of messed up,but at the same time smart enough to manipulate. She kills people in her working place and puts their dead bodies into her basement and treats them as her friends. Her father used to sexually abuse her and her thinking isn't quite normal...If she is done with one place, she moves on,performing as an helpless old lady, who is very fond of her work. The movie is kinda twisted in its own way.It is not a horror movie though, the special effects aren't very good,if there even is any. There are other interesting characters too in the movie. Some loose ends too.I liked the movie cause it was so different from other movies that kind. Also,it showed, that female murderers aren't always supposed to use their good looks to get away with things.

i think i can account for the discrepancy between my vote and the average vote posted on IMDb. see, this movie was directed by cindy sherman, and therefore is to be viewed as much as a work of art as just another film. this is the same woman who began the whole movement to undermine the historical accuracy with which he accepted photographic works. she showed thru her art not only that there is a shared collective consciousness that is highly malleable and that the photographer can make the viewer a part of the art. i realize that by casting molly ringwald a lot of people may have thought they were getting another, something bad, i don't know.

I can't believe I JUST now found and watched this movie as well. It played tonite on Showtime Beyond! I was searching for a good movie to watch tonite and I got nothing, until i came upon the title "Office Killer" HA! anything with the word Killer in the title automatically grabs my attention. Thank GOD I stayed on the channel and waited for it to begin - it was FREAKIN AMAZING! Histaricaly amazing! Kane does a wonderful job and I think I literally was smiling the WHOLE time. I felt like a crazy like Dorine! And Molly Ringwald, i will always love her. Everything about this film was perfect, literally. I have GOT to own this!
