Night Shadow (1990) Director: Randolph Cohlan Stars: Brenda Vance, Stuart Quan, Kato Kaelin Synopsis: Alex (Brenda Vance) is an up and coming TV journalist that travels to her home town for a vacation. A mysterious man follows her from L. A to Danford. Back in Danford we meet her kickboxing brother (Stuart Quan) and her "boyfriend", the Sheriff who now has his hands full with a bunch of animal-like murders occurring in town. The Crappy: The animal costume looks like it was bought at a Halloween costume store and tweaked ever so slightly. And you don't even see it until the very end. It's supposed to be a werewolf but you could really use any creature in its place because the werewolf angle is completely irrelevant to anything in the movie. The ditzy reporter I think had one blouse change the entire movie - this takes place over a series of days. The kung fu brother wears this mini tank top that just look completely absurd. 80s hair: Aquanet was a big part of the budget here. The Happy: Kato Kaelin! Lol. He's one of the kung fu brother's friends and he rocks a wicked mullet throughout. He also has the only good death scene in the movie. The Kung Fu brother (who reminds me of Phillip Rhee in Best of the Best) has got some decent moves - even though some kicks obviously didn't connect. Lol. Overall: 3.5 out of 10 This is a pretty weak werewolf flick with a couple of laughs and not much else. Only for werewolf purists and I mean that lightly.

Alex Jung(Brenda Vance)is a promising and attractive young TV journalist on her move up. But Alex needs a break; a short vacation back to her hometown. She isn't in town 24 hours before her boss wants her to cover the grisly story of multiple mutilation murders there in her usually quiet little community. The townspeople are plunged into panic when news leaks that the murders may be the work of a savage beast instead of a mortal man. Alex and her karate-stud brother Tai(Dane Chan)team with the town sheriff(Tom Boylan),under pressure, to find the bloodthirsty murderer. Definitely low-budget; but no major scenes of the killer or his deeds. Also in the cast: Rick Scott, Jeanette Lewis, Orien Richman, Alta LaFlame, Aldo Ray and Kato Kaelin(yes...that Kato Kaelin).

Alex (Brenda Vance) takes a vacation from being an LA newscaster to return to her small home town of Danford. It is clear she is being stalked by a werewolf as folks in town and being killed. It appears as there was going to be some kind of connection Alex who ordered her steak rare and mom who seems to know something, but the plot never went that way. They missed their opportunity. Liked the 80's hair and music. Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

This movie was made back when movie special effects were done practically instead of using computers so the effects were well done for the time especially the creature plus the cinematography was excellant. But these two things were about the only things that stood out in this movie as the script was poorly written and the acting was average at best. It did however have some Kung Fu fights and no nudity which was unusual in a horror movie in this era.

RELEASED IN 1989 and written/directed by Randolph Cohlan, "Night Shadow" (originally titled "Lycanthrope") concerns a humble Los Angeles newscaster (Brenda Vance) who returns to her home town on vacation as several people crop up dead, as if by a vicious animal. Alta LaFlame plays the sheriff, Rick Scott a mysterious hitchhiker, Stuart Quan the protagonist's kung fuey brother and Kato Kaelin his friend. This is akin to a modern Syfy creature feature, but with a production quality a notch below that prosaic level. The serviceable score, for instance, sounds like it was performed entirely on a Casio keyboard (and no doubt it was). There's also too much marking time. Still, the cast is likable, the small town setting is quaint and the monster is pretty effective for a man in a suit, but you have to wait till the final act to see him. Vance is a more-than-agreeable protagonist, but the film drops the ball in the female department, as far as taking advantage of the resources (and I'm not tawkin' 'bout nudity or sleaze). But there's a lot of martial arts action due to the presence of Quan; and the late 80's ambiance is to die for (take, for instance, Quan's absurd bra-like billie shirt and Kato's hideous mullet). THE FILM RUNS 91 minutes and was shot in Hanford & Fresno in the heart of California. GRADE: C

What bad movies are all about! Some spoilers below, if you don't want to know, don't read on. This one is a classic. It stars Kato Kaelin and the only thing worse than his hair is his acting. I don't remember much of plot, but there is a really mangy werewolf going around killing folks. Also some really bad kung fu, funny, funny stuff. This film drips cheese, if you can find it I highly recommend.

*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT* Terrible. Awful. Retching. Nightmarish. Worst movie ever. I mean ever. I have seen some painful films in my day but this is the king. It still hasn't been dethroned. The video box had a huge werewolf on the cover. Naturally, I couldn't resist. After my brain aneurysm, I returned it and the video store went out of business the next week. I think the store must have been a mirage just to get some sucker to rent this god awful film. Supposedly there is a werewolf attacking a town. I don't remember seeing one till the very end. Do silver bullets kill the beast? *SPOILER ON ENDING COMING* No! In the final insult, they run over the flea bitten wolf with their car! Must have had silver hubcaps.

one night as always i'm watching off beat cinema rap videos and crappy sitcoms until i go to ABC and i see the title sequence and it says directed by Randolph something and i thought the tommy knockers movie yes what i was watching was a crappy werewolf movie at first i thought it was a Stephen king movie and thought(silver bullet) but no i remembered that silver bullet wasn't this crappy the acting was terrible the main girl i swear i saw in a porno but eh probably not anyway the other actors in the film (including the Chinese boy) sucked bitter ass my god it sucked but speaking of Stephen king they play through a thing of who's who but when i watched the dude break the hillbilly's head through the window automatically a werewolf no doubt i didn't think it was a werewolf in the first place i thought it was a vampire thanks to the title (which i found recently) if you're going to make a werewolf movie put the title like a werewolf movie like......you know i can't think of anything but anyway at least make it better then NIGHT SHADOW i mean no offense the title is great for a horror movie not for a werewolf movie but the worst thing of all in this movie is the ending instead of the usual killing a werewolf with silver they run him over with a car and it explodes hows that for you horror fans in conclusion this is nothing but another crappy werewolf movie so please but these movies (SILVER BULLET) (AN American WEREWOLF IN London) (THE HOWLING) (THE Original WOLF-MAN) those are way better werewolf movies so please buy them A 3 out of 10
