Night of the Demon is one of the infamous video nasties that was banned in Britain. It was finally released in 1994 with 1 minute and 41 seconds cut. It became most famous for its depictions of castration, dismemberment, stabbings and disemboweling.
The description tells you this is a gory version of Bigfoot. What it doesn't tell you is how funny it can be. In the second attack, two people are going at it in their van in the woods when Bigfoot pulls the man out of the van and bloodies him up. The girl (Jennifer West) is all naked and screaming at the sight of her bloodied lover. I swear her screams sounded like she was having an *.
Bigfoot grabs another camper, still in his sleeping bag, and twirls him round and round before throwing him into a tree with a broken branch.
You might want to watch where you whip it out to relieve yourself. You never know what's in the bushes, and you might lose some valuable equipment.
They find Crazy Wanda (Melanie Graham), who was raped by Bigfoot, and had it's baby. Of course Bigfoot came by and the real carnage began.
Picture is fuzzy most of the time, and the acting is not that great. Music is irritating, but there is a lot of blood for the nasty fans.

Night Of The Demon is, for the most part, completely unwatchable garbage. The format used to tell the story is extremely confusing, what we get is flashback after flashback and it soon becomes unclear who is even having these flashbacks. The only remotely interesting aspect is the gore, and even that isn't very good. The effects used are extremely crude. The biker castration scene is nowhere near as spectacular as other reviewers would have you believe - all you see is the man holding his crotch as blood pours down his pants. The scene at the end where Bigfoot uses a mans intestines as a whip is also less spectacular than it sounds. The only bit I liked was when he swings a sleeping bag around his head with a man still inside.
I was thoroughly disappointed with this film. It's nowhere near as good as it sounds and is likely to induce sleep. Only recommended to those collecting the full "video nasties" list - Night Of The Demon is in the same league as Don't Go In The Woods Alone, only much much worse.

I can't imagine a movie worse technically than this, and I doubt that the producers took themselves seriously making this movie. It is so bad that it'll have you in fits of laughter. It tries to have a little sub-plot about a strange romance between the monster and a woman in a secluded cabin, but that could have been left out. The monster swings somebody's intestines around, picks a camping bag up and swings it around to impale it on a pole...and best of all, he rips a guy's member off...how could you not laugh?? if this were all done in a more realistic manner (if something that macabre could be realistically at all), maybe it wouldn't have been. But if you like bad movies and you're one of those that likes to watch movies with friends and family only to make fun of them, pick this one up. It's hard to find however.

If jaws had you afraid to get into the water, this film will make you afraid to pee in the woods.
This is probably the roughest entry you'll find in the classic cinema-de-sasquatch genre. While it doesn't manage to be very creepy, or overtly scary, it does manage to be gory (if you can get your hands on the uncut version). Frankly, it is what it is, and if you like B-horror films of this time period, or are a Bigfootiphile, you'll enjoy it. however, if you are looking to truly be frightened, I'd move on.
With themes like castration and bestiality, it deserves a remake!

NIGHT OF THE DEMON is just one of the my favorites from 1980. As far as I can tell this is the only gory bigfoot movie ever made, and it's a shame too. This sub-genre could have been very prolific (ahaha probably not). The story is about a college professor and his students who venture off into the woods looking for the myth that is Bigfoot. The professor tells his students in flashback about the numerous unexplained murders that are being committed (yes, the yokel who gets his you-know-what ripped off is a definite highlight) until they themselves are stalked by the beast. There's also a bizarre sub-plot involving a disturbed woman, who as a child, was raped by the monster; had his baby and was then forced to kill it by her father!
A crazy, gory, cheesy B-movie that is worth at least a rental.

This film says 1980, but I'm willing to say it's older than that. The music during the opening credits sounds like Room 222. Lots of gore, bad acting, some nudity, a bigfoot/humanoid baby and the low budget makes this an enjoyable viewing treat for all drive-in movie/ bigfoot fans!! It's hard to find so check Ebay. If you think Sasquatch: The Untold was great, then this baby will blow your mind!! Two thumbs up.

An anthropology professor and his students travel to a wooded, mountainous area where a huge creature has been attacking and killing anyone he can get his hairy, over-sized hands on.
The first time I saw Night of the Demon was during the dark days of the 'Video Nasty', on an nth generation bootleg tape that was fuzzier than a drunken caterpillar wearing an Angora sweater. Still, I was just thankful that the gore was intact (unlike the recent R2 DVD release, which has been cut by 1:41s, and is still crap quality), because without the splatter, this film would be about as much fun as having your Johnson ripped off by a Sasquatch (my advice: go R1 or take advantage of the wonders of modern technology to get your paws on the uncut version).
A predictable script chock full of dull dialogue, crappy acting, and shoddy production values make this one hard to endure at times, but regular doses of cheesy, bargain-basement gore certainly help to relieve the boredom: the pre-credits sequence sees a man have his arm torn off; a couple in van are attacked mid-shag (a scene that nicely ticks the gratuitous nudity box in the process); a man in a sleeping bag is impaled on a broken branch; a motorcyclist stops for a pee and has his wedding tackle torn off; a woodsman is given the chop with his own axe; two knife-wielding girl scouts are made to slash each other to death; and one of the students is bashed into a tree, causing him to accidentally blast himself in the head with his shotgun. We are also treated to a touch of big-foot rape and the resultant birth of a mutated baby!
This all brings us very nicely to the film's 'pièce de résistance', a brutal all-out attack by the monster in which all but one of the group are killed (the sole survivor just has his face seared on a red-hot griddle!). During this protracted wholesale slaughter, the beast throttles a girl to death, pushes one guy's neck onto a broken pane of glass, and slices another's stomach open on a saw before yanking out his guts and swinging them triumphantly through the air.
All this trashy graphic violence might not be sophisticated stuff, but it sure is fun, and earns the otherwise dreadful Night of the Demon a reasonable rating of 5.5 out 10 (rounded up to 6 for IMDb).

A few years ago my mother had bought me a DVD called Night of the Demon out of the 5 dollar bin, she knew my love of horror films and thought that the cover looked cool and that I would probably like it. Weird thing is, I never checked it out until recently, years and years this DVD sat on my shelf and I don't know why I didn't check it out earlier. Because when I went onto IMDb for reviews and then onto Amazon, I couldn't believe my eyes, this same DVD that my mom bought for 5 dollars is now selling for 80 dollars on Amazon, isn't that crazy? So my mother picked a true treasure I was guessing. Well, after viewing it, I'm not so sure that treasure is the right name any more, but it certainly has something. I'm an gore fan, I have to admit, the story could be lousy but if there is good gore in the film, I just end up falling for it. Night of the Demon does that for me, while the story, acting and directing isn't up to par, this is a fun movie with the killing scenes. I know that sounds sick, but this is a fun treasure from the 80's with the great senseless nudity, sex, drugs, drinking, stereotypes and violence that I could want.
Night of the Demon tells the story of an anthropology class's all-too-successful expedition into the American wilderness to find the truth behind the Sasquatch legend. Along the way, the team learn about the creature's previous victims, uncover the squalid story of a hermit who gave birth to a mutation after being raped by the monster, and finally come face to face with the beast himself.
Eighty dollars worth of your time; no, not really, but if you're able to still find it cheap and are a horror fan like I am, I totally recommend this film. This is a crazy monster we have in the film, we go from this light hearted music that sounds like it belongs in an elevator to seeing Big Foot rip a guys hot dog off! You know what I mean, I can't write it on this website. Also this poor girl is getting beaten by her hick father after he suspects her feelings for another man, literally thrashing a belt on her back, now in most horror movies, the dad would be the one put to justice, but it's the girl that gets raped by Big Foot and gives birth to his baby! Now that's a Jerry Springer episode that I would love to see! The whole ending is in slow motion with the sickest kills you will ever see, Saw would cover it's eyes to some of these gruesome kills.
It's a very strange film, believe me, it's not for everyone. The direction is a little off and the lighting is absolutely horrible at times, however the reason I forgave this so fast is due to the fact that it seems like the cast and crew genuinely had a great time making this film. I mean there's a scene where Big Foot takes two girl scouts who happen to be carrying knives and pulls their arms towards each other stabbing each other while the whole time you're screaming "Just drop the knife! Problem solved!". But it's moments like that that make me enjoy a movie when you're just having a good time with it. This may be a twisted Big Foot, but that's just the way we are supposed to suspect him to be, why are we so afraid of him? Just like Jaws made people afraid of sharks, Night of the Demon will make you afraid of Big Foot! But like I said, don't buy it for 80 dollars, I'm sure you can find it cheaper somewhere else or it's gotta be on the net, because people are greedy and crazy.

Thankfully this isn't an eighties remake of Jacques Tourneur's black magic classic of the same name, but a Video Nasty about the Bigfoot legend instead. There isn't a great deal of films about Bigfoot, and on the strength of this movie; I'm not surprised at that. The film plays out like a cross between an adventure movie and a slasher as we follow a team of researchers on the trail of some sightings of a giant anthropoid in a woodland area. Like a lot of films on the infamous Video Nasty list, this one isn't particularly gory and is rather boring also; the irony, of course, being that the only reason left to see this film is because the censors tried to stop people seeing it in the first place. The film was obviously made on a low budget, and this comes across by way of the less than brilliant special effects, terrible acting and a sense of fun that runs throughout, which continually gives the viewer the impression that this film was made by a bunch of friends for kicks rather than by a professional film crew. There are a couple of subplots involving a cult and a survivor of the beast; but it all comes down to the creatures of the title.
The woodland setting provides a good location for this sort of film, and director James C. Wasson, for whom this film is his only film credit, does a good job of utilising the surroundings for intrigue and a foreboding atmosphere; or at least he would have done if the resulting movie wasn't so dull. The plot pans out by having a few members of the cast killed off by the monster at a time, and because the film never shows an ounce of intelligence, it's always evident that this is all that's going to happen. Throughout, you get the impression that the film is building to a big climax; and while suspense isn't the film's main asset as non of the characters make you want to care for them, at least it does boil down to the grand finale. Not that it's a particularly good finish; but I'd rather see a film that gets better by the end than one that gets worse. The cast is made up of unknowns, which is hardly surprising given the talent on display. The gore is rather well done and there are some nice kill scenes, but it's hardly a gore-fest and I'm surprised this one got banned. Overall, I can't say that there's much reason to see this film; but it's certainly not the worst movie ever made, and there are worse films than this on the DPP's list.
