NEW YEAR'S EVE falls into that class of films best labeled 'cute'. Lots of stories, most of little consequence, an attempt to pull everything together with the premise that new Year's Eve gives everyone a chance to make things different in the following year (the New Year's Resolution carried to the extreme), some funny jokes pushed over the edge toward silly, and a script full of holes. But the bouncing around from micro story to micro story works OK because it gives the actors involved a chance to come on set for a day or two of work and leave unstressed and financially healthy. Katherine Fugate wrote the stewed ingredient stories for Garry Marshall to stir, and the list of actors involved is staggering: Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Cary Elwes, Jessica Biel, Seth Meyers , Sarah Paulson, Til Schweiger, Carla Gugino, Katherine Heigl, Jon Bon Jovi, Sofía Vergara, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele, Sarah Jessica Parker, Abigail Breslin, Josh Duhamel, Larry Miller, Penny Marshall, Cherry Jones, Hilary Swank, Ludicrous, Hector Elizondo, Ryan Seacrest, Matthew Broderick, John Lithgow and more.
This is a razzle dazzle movie with some good moments, improbable though they mostly are, and a nice mindless evening to enjoy popcorn. Enter with low expectations and take it for what it is - entertainment.

I thought this movie was wonderful! What a great storyline, nicely written. So many little twists and turns.I cant see how anyone would not love this film and enjoy every second of it. I loved each storyline all different in there each way.I loved the creative story line and how it played out to the very end. I really didn't want the movie to end. It hit you straight in the heart at some points. Cast was just amazing! Zach will def be receiving more movie roles after this! Ending was just great! I loved how the showed New York City Bright Colors and busy streets. Proud of New York City! I would love to see this movie again and again.

This movie was so bad it is the reason I joined IMDb. I thought about joining in the past for good movies, but never have I been so motivated by a movie to do something to help others. Save yourself and DO NOT see this movie. Great actors, but horrible plot and writing. Which any movie buff knows it doesn't matter if the actors/actresses are on the level of Robert De Niro/Hale Berry or Kevin Federline/Jenifer Lopez, if the story is bad, nothing can save the movie. To Hollywood: Stop making stink bombs like this! Stop insulting the intelligence of your audiences. Save yourselves and your loyal followers from future pointless junk like this.

Ingrid (Michelle Pfeiffer) is the personal assistant to a bigwig at a Manhattan recording company (John Lithgow). But, on the morning of New Year's Eve Day, when she trips and falls on some garbage bags near the office, its the last straw. So, when a handsome young courier (Zac Ephron) brings her some tickets to a swanky Eve ball, she offers to give him the tiny slips of cardboard for a price. She has her list of resolutions from the previous year and not one of them have been met. The deal is on. Meanwhile, a comic book artist (Ashton Kutcher) gets stuck in an elevator with a young singer (Lea Michele) while a chef (Katharine Heigl) finds herself catering an event where her former boyfriend, Jensen (Jon Bon Jovi) is set to sing. Times Square event planner (Hilary Swank) and her sidekick police officer (Ludacris) have to make sure the ball dropping event goes off without a problem. A dying man (Robert De Niro) checked into a hospital near the Square, so he could see the ball drop, but his doc won't let him on the roof. A kind nurse (Halle Berry), however, might make it happen. Also in the city are two couples (one is Seth Meyer and Jessica Biel) who are hoping to "drop" the Eve baby at the same hospital and snag the $25,000 famous baby gift. But, that's not all folks! A recording exec (Josh Duhamel) has to go to a wedding in Connecticut but needs to be back in Manhattan on the Eve, for a meeting with a lady who stole his heart. Finally, a theater seamstress (Sarah Jessica Parker) wants to spend the Eve with her teen daughter (Abigail Breslin), since her ex-husband got her last year, but the young gal wants to go to the Square with friends, especially to meet a boy she likes. Mom says no. So, with all of these stories in the Big Apple, will everyone start the New Year off right? You bet! This is quite a nice story, no matter what the hard hearted critics say, and its also romantic, funny, touching, and beautifully photographed. Spending any time with these fun folks and their adventures is hardly a waste of time. This viewer especially liked Ingrid's list and Ephron's ingenious ways of fulfilling it. In addition to the cast mentioned above, Hector Elizondo, Penny Marshall, Sofia Veraga, Cherry Jones and Larry Miller also drop by to steal scenes. No, real life probably does not end as happily as things do here, but that doesn't mean that the film doesn't also have some footing in reality as well. So, folks, why don't you go grab some tickets tonight or make plans for a New Year's Eve view yourself. Follow it up with light drinks and snacks and you could begin your own New Year on the happy cloud.

Just read the headline. There is way to much going on in this movie to even understand what is going on! The idea of making a movie like this is good, just like valentines day. The problem with these movies is that yes they sign a lot and i mean A lot of big name actors, even 3 Oscar winners like, swank, De Niro, and Berry. The problem with this is that you don't know who to focus on. The scenarios are thrown in and out and shuffled around like a high stakes poker deck, its just unbearable! About 30 Min's in and I'm totally lost with the plot. It made me want to see breaking dawn, YES i said it, I'm a 21 year old guy who would rather see twilight then this garbage, at least i know what is going on in twilight and I'm not clueless the whole time i was watching it. Trust me people wait for the girl with the dragon tattoo or some other Oscar movie cause trust me this will be 118 Min's of your life that you save by watching something else!

There is a Chex mix of Glee, Million Dollar Baby, Cat Woman (both kinds), Saturday Night Live, The Deer Hunter, Sex and the City, 7th Heaven, That 70's Show, Modern Family, The Simpson's, High School the Musical, The Princess Bride, Grey's Anatomy, Little Miss Sunshine, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Rescue Me, Laverne and Shirley, Pretty Woman, Spy Kids, & U-571 in this film. Each person had a character with no continuity of relationship.
Would have liked to see more believable story line(s). The focus was New York City. Most of the action was not believable. An RV driving into New York City on New Year's Eve? REALLY? Common Garry Marshall, you have better in you!

For the first time ever I have been forced to write a review about a movie, because I don't want everyone to spend money of this diabolical piece of work.
What a waste of a superb cast. There is not ONE redeeming feature of this movie. Total waste of my time just to get to the theatre to watch it. I was gone after an excruciating 40 minutes. Don't let the big names fool you. They are ALL way off the mark, but that is to be expected with such a bad script and, oh God, where was the director?.
A big red light and a solid warning..give this a huge miss.If it was free- to-air I'd still change channel.

Why does everyone have to look at every movie with an oh so critical and cynical eye?
This is a great seasonal movie to go and take your family (I did yesterday) in amongst all the pre-Christmas madness and just sit down, take a load off, relax, smile and enjoy... Sure it's no Citizen Kane..but it never purported to be!
It's a nice feel-good movie
so go and take off the cynical glasses and enjoy..we wouldn't enjoy half of great Christmas movies if we all took this jaded view of movies!
