Christopher Russell seems fated to be paired up with pregnant co-stars distractingly striving to hide their condition. But that's neither here nor there. What we have here is a by the numbers hallmark plot unredeemed by interesting character development, outstanding acting, or sparky writing. In fact, the writing was cringeworthy. Will is touted as some big expert/consultant in conservation, but no university education is even mentioned. Katie is the daughter of a corporate lawyer and university professor yet she acts very ignorantly and the samples of her writing we are treated to are inane and insipid. Her behavior is childish. I think she's supposed to be perky and funny, but she comes across as just silly. Also still another case of too many cosmetics for the type of role. As for chemistry, it's not good when you want to look away when the leads are having "a moment."
Christopher Russell. What can I say? He is so handsome that it's like he stepped off the cover of a paperback romance. Unfortunately, It seems like he always plays mellow, rather passive romantic heroes. In most if not all of the roles I've seen him in, He seems detached and like he's just going through the motions. Maybe that is because Hallmark just plugs him in to roles where hunkiness is more important than personality. I'd love to see him in another type of part. It's too bad if they are just taking advantage of his good looks because in real life he seems like an authentic, nice if private happily- married-for-years father of two. In fact, a real life Hallmark hero 10 years down the road.

I am a 46 year old man that watches a lot of movies. My main preferences are Horror, Sci-Fi, Mystery and Comedy.
With that said; - i really liked this movie!
Perhaps i am getting old and turning soft, but i am watching - and liking - more and more of these Hallmark movies. Most of them have silly, simple and similar content; Girl meets boy. Girl and boy clash regarding something. Girl and boy forgive each other and becomes a couple.
But - if you are watching a Hallmark movie - then THAT is what you WANT and EXPECT from the movie.
Just a romantic movie about a couple finding each other.

Favorite scene with Katie -
Finally telling Will about the article she's writing on him and his reaction.

I would think he would prefer the natural look instead of a bleached blonde with red lipstick and fake eyelashes. However, the scenery was really beautiful.

I loved the main characters and the outdoorsy vibe of the movie. I loved that the characters were honest about who they were and I love their chemistry.

The storyline of this movie is fine. The scenery is spectacular, although all of this beauty could not naturally all be contained in one local. (The featured couple is in the middle of a lake, and magically spots river otters in the middle of the lake - I think not...) But the most offensive aspect of this movie was the "planting" of artificial flowers in way too many scenes. We've seen this in a number of Hallmark movies, usually in street scenes along sidewalks, or in front of homes. But this was a nature movie, and they show a mountain lake with a typically rocky/sandy beach, and fake flower stuck in the sand! These weren't even imitating wildflowers; they were fake garden flowers! Hallmark - let nature's beauty speak for itself. Cut the plastic flowers!

Okay - first for the negatives... this is typical Hallmark and all of their normal elements are in here. Totally predictable, various plus-and-play Hallmark story modules make the story line and so on.
Now... for the positives... the lead actress totally makes the movie, she has good personality and gives the movie a lively character. This is not just a typical Hallmark movie about baking, dog walking, or other typical Hallmarkisms. The setting was reasonable realistic and different from most Hallmark productions.
The ending is a bit unlikely but it is still good.
YO HALLMARK - hire me to help make your movies a bit more lively and way less predictable.

I like Emily Ullerup, but I wasn't that fond of the character she played in this movie. As others have pointed out, it seems her character did zero research before setting out for her first writing assignment which is odd considering she wanted to be a writer so badly.
Christopher Russell was disappointing as the 'rugged outdoorsman and nature guide.' I know it wasn't his fault - he was just delivering the written lines - but a naturalist would be able to correctly identify the first sparrow they saw on their bird walk as a white-throated sparrow, not a golden-crowned sparrow. To the writers - just take a minute and ask someone who knows anything about birds to validate your guess at the species before filming.
The scenery is beautiful.
This one didn't make my top 100 list for Hallmark movies...
