Every Third Word Begins With "F".

White Cops Beat Black Suspects to a Bloody Pulp.
Detroit-City depicted as True Hell. (Well, That Rings True, I Suppose.)
The Director's Comments Show What A Self-Aggrandizing "Gift To The World" He Thinks He Is.
If Obscene is Something with No Socially Redeeming Qualities Whatsoever, this Definitiely Qualifies As Obscene.
If This Depicts "Reality," I Want No Part Of It. This is a Truly Disgusting Film.
No Trouble At All Giving It a ONE Rating... Except I Do Wish There Were a ZERO.
P.S. This is the lowest rating I've ever awarded on IMDb! I even gave "Equilibrium" a 2! Ha ha ha. I am so generous!
P.P.S. Ray Liotta was so good in "Goodfellas" --- How the great have fallen!

NARC is a well made cop film and even though all the cliches are there, Carnahan does a great job of shaking up the genre. Liotta gives a towering performance and even though I usually can't stand the sleepwalking dead-eyed work of Jason Patric he delivers here. A strong acting job and even though there are too many shots of tortured introspective cops looking out at the water and too many scenes with the suffering wife begging the cop to give up his dangerous work, the RASHOMON quality to the story does work and it is a powerful film.

A group of twenty of us were invited to see a special showing of "Narc". Everyone gave the movie a "thumbs up". The acting was especially good and Carnahan did an excellent job directing this film. If I hadn't known better, I would have thought this was a Quentin T. movie. Some of us voted on imdb after we saw the movie and apparently they thought we were "ballot-stuffing" so they lowered the rating on this movie but most of us gave it a "10". Tom Cruise also saw the movie and liked it so much, he bought the rights to the film. Unless we're all totally off base, this is a "must see" movie for all "Pulp Fiction" buffs and destined to become a success at the box office.

Great actors, great story, great direction...just incredible. No need for big car chases, big chests, or big guns. Proof that an excellent movie can be made on a low budget and nothing is sacrificed. I fear to say too much, for it may spoil the experience, just don't miss the experience of seeing it on the big screen.
4 well earned stars and my personal thanks for creating an escape from the garbage that Hollywood has made in the past year.

Joe Carnahan has made a unique piece of cinema. A blend of fresh, new cinema techniques and a story that compares with those of the '70. You can see where he gets his inspiration (The French Connection anyone?), but he does is nicely. The performances are great, you will see Loitta and Patric act like they lifes depended on it! :) It's really THAT good!
The film has a very dark style (the intro!) , a nice story and a director to be proud of. Hopefully Joe Carnahan will work magic with his next flick too. (Mission Impossible 3) We can only hope. :)

This was a hard film to rate for me because while I loved the gritty style and absolutely loved the acting, the story and its ending really didn't do much for me. Director Joe Carnahan has a lot of talent and will hopefully go on to direct more great films, but I feel like he let a real classic get away from him with "Narc". The final 15 minutes or so were a little too heavy on flashbacks and I didn't feel like I needed the story to be so neatly tied up. Other than the end and a few cliche cop-movie moments (which really don't take away from the film), I feel that "Narc" is a very strong 7 of 10 and not far from an 8. Check this film out for some great acting and oh by the way, Hollywood, give Jason Patric more roles that he can sink his teeth into like this one. I feel like he has definite Oscar potential if he is given the chance.

This film is gritty, as in I had to grit my teeth to watch it. Formulaic plot punctuated by overacting and one cliche stereotype after another. Can't imagine why they bothered to make it. Can't believe I almost got through the whole thing before my aching jaws forced me to quit.
