Look at what they did to me wee son. A new thriller drama featuring James McAvoy on Peacock. A father who spent little time with his family returned to his ex-wife in order to find his missing son. This is another case of a mediocre movie that tried nothing more than the genre's skeleton. The story was done countless times before, which made this movie so boring and predictable. The thriller scene near the end was pretty decent, but was not enough to make me care much for the characters. The only saving grace of this movie was James McAvoy himself. He had a good performance despite playing such a mediocre character. This confused me a bit because I can't see why he wanted to be in this movie. His character had a background that was barely touched on. It was mentioned with the intention of having some significance to the overall plot, but at the end it was just brushed off. Not sure why they would leave such seemingly important detail in the air. Overall, such a mediocre movie. Even though it's free on Peacock, don't waste your time. 4.5/10.

Im going to keep it simple and just say its really damn good. James is one hell of an actor & the movie delivers. Its not that slow of a burn because it keeps you gripped to the screen from start to finish. The story is always moving forward with no filler garbage.

I've seen the original film, the French version which at first seems slow but get pretty good towards the end. . This one pretty much as same.. James McAvoy is such a great actor, I love to watch everything he does.. beautiful scenary & great cast performances..

This is just another Hollywood Remake from the 2017 french movie "Mon garçon" Better watch the original. Way much better.

James McAvoy is a great actor, and to do this movie without a script? I say bravo! He was brilliant in this movie! It was a great movie too!

A thriller simply cannot run on the basis of a gimmick (of its protagonist mouthing totally improvised dialogue) - it needs a plot and neatly packaged twists & turns to keep viewers invested. My Son starts off with interesting what-ifs and frame choices. But writer-director Christian Carion struggles to develop well-rounded characters or convey a coherent story. The tension is practically non-existent after the opening scene. The thrills are absent. The biggest disappointment, however, is that Carion settles for an extremely weak finale - one that undoes all of its initial intrigue. Plot points are barely touched upon and conveniently brushed aside, while the antagonists are poorly etched. McAvoy tries. He definitely tries. But the film can't stand on its own two feet because of the bland, powerless writing.

Ethan Murray goes missing while at summer camp. Edmund (James McAvoy) suspects his ex-wife's (Claire Foy) new husband Frank (Tom Cullen). The police suspect someone related to Edmund's work.
