Could have been one of the better romantic comedies, marquee actors, a somewhat clever story line and a stock but well played plot twist at the end. Could have been, but wasn't because Meg Ryan is a one woman wrecking crew from beginning to end. Her character idea is clever, but Meg Ryan plays her like a chipmunk on crank - constantly hyper-energetic, late sixties/early seventies cliché spewing, hippy-trippy-chippy. We're to believe this unbelievably annoying person attracts men of all ages to her like a mythical siren and women adore her as well. Reality check Hollywood; men run for the exits when they encounter women like Marty Durand who all but has a sandwich board sign declaring her bi-polar/border line psychotic personality disorder and women loathe self-centered attention seeking vapidness that she represent. Less than half way through the movie my wife said she was hoping for a plot twist that involved the gun toting FBI son shooting this insipid twit just to shut her up - I enthusiastically concurred! As bad as the Marty Durand character was, Meg Ryan playing her only made her more unbearable. Hot, she's so hot, so so so hot Marty Duran is so freaking hot or so every single character in the movie tells us, again and again and again and again and again and again please god make them stop - prompting me to ask is everyone from the casting director on down is utterly blind? Meg Ryan looks horrifically bad. If she had attempted to squeeze one more droplet of collagen into her fat, drooping under their own weight, lips I have no doubt they would have exploded all over her botox hardened face the moment she uttered her first line. There are few things more disturbing than watching someone play chipper and happy when their eyebrows and forehead are frozen stiff. Yes Meg you're thin and in shape and that's great, but do us all and yourself a favor by laying off the facial injections and try aging gracefully. A truly bad casting choice and a horrible performance killed this thing out of the gate.

So I caught this on a glimpse yesterday on TV as it featured one of my favourite actresses as a kid Meg Ryan.Now Meg Ryan is known for starring in A lot of romantic comedies giving her the title of Queen of the Chick Flicks. Some of them were very good more were kinda on the average side. I liked her in the likes of Sleepless In Seattle,You've Got Mail and yes folks I loved Kate & Leopold too. But since then she underwent plastic surgery and by god does it really show in this unfunny movie. She plays Marty a woman who's son(played by her bff 's son Colin Hanks who is Tom Hanks son btw) happens to be working for the CIA but of course she meets a handsome man named Tommy (played by Puss In Boots and Zorro himself Antonio Banderas) who is stealing a valuable statue in an Art gallery and its up to Ryan's charcther's son to stop him. But is Antonio really a bad guy or is he an undercover cop working for the CIA? Bottom line this film was pretty bad. The movie wasn't even funny and poor Meg Ryan she used to be so pretty and now she's like The Joker from Batman(no offense but she is like the villain in the Batman movies).Overall this isn't worth watching and if you are like me a fan of Meg Ryan's then watch her old stuff its way better. 1/10

The premise is uplifting and then crazy, but its a comedy! She did NOT lose weight to get a guy, but it was a byproduct of spiritual enlightenment and a change to a healthy life. It has risk and love, and comedy. You hope for a happy ending for all characters involved. Antonio is hot, Meg has a hot body, she's still pretty. the itsy bitsy spider was hilarious! The young acting mom and the old acting son is too funny. I suggest it for any woman, I am 37 and cute too... I relate to Meg's character very much. It would be nice to meet an Antonio Banderas... Its pure fantasy, A FOR FUN movie!!! People shouldn't get so worked up and just enjoy life. I may buy the DVD! Watch it for yourself and see what you think!

My wife and I regularly watch romantic comedy's as end of week, child in bed, brain wind down, light fluffy fare. That said, I do like some quality of acting or comedy, e.g. 4 Weddings, Music & Lyrics, Bridget Jones, Notting Hill, Love Actually (oh god... is High Grant the only person capable of a decent Rom-Com???), Sleepless in Seattle, You've got Mail, etc. This movie was just bland, unfunny, and so poor that we turned it off half-way through. Not a chuckle, not even a smirk. As many other reviews here have pointed out, the characters seem forced and just don't work together. It's not even that they are annoying... it just didn't 'work' for mine which is very disappointing as the individual actors have proved track records of quality films. Avoid, or if you must watch it, be ruthless and promise to turn it off after 15-20 minutes if it doesn't really grab you.

A few chuckles, a little bit of plot, and some star power. I wish there'd been more Selma Blair on screen. I like her but ... her part could have been played by anybody. It's kind of scary when Meg Ryan smiles (her face is a disaster, but her lips are freaky) but other than that she looks good and can still pull off her Megness like no one else. There are a couple scenes that are pure Meg. When Antonio is fawning over how hot she looks, she responds "Yeah! I know!" Only Meg could do that and not make everybody sick. In another scene she gets mad at him and throws a fit, punching and screaming into the air. Antonio just watches until its over and is speechless (so was I) but for a genuinely soft-spoken "Wow." It was nice to see those scenes. Meg's still got it and Antonia doesn't seem like he's going to lose it any time soon. It was a pleasant surprise to see how good Antonio looks. Maybe I just haven't seen him in a while. I've always liked him in comedies. If you like Antonio, you'll love the scene where he ends up with each hand in a glass of water (or white wine?). Antonio could charm the socks off ... I dunno, somebody who really needed their socks. That's what these kinds of movies are all about, right? How good do our stars look? How much we enjoy seeing our favorite celebrities prance about ... acting. There's a light twist at the end so everybody can be happy. Upon reflection it explained a few unanswered hmmmm's from previous scenes but I didn't see it coming because I wasn't expecting it; I didn't need it and I had forgotten about those scenes because this isn't a movie you keep score on. This movie kept me interested and entertained but, there seemed to be something lacking for me. Meg Ryan, looked like a cross between Joan Rivers and Jack Nicholson, as the Joker, and it was hard to relate to her wacky character who seemed to be on speed, crank, or something. There where some funny parts and Colin Hanks played his part well I thought, though casting Meg Ryan as his mother felt unnatural to me. Antonio Banderas played the same character he plays in all movies he stars in, with emphasis on his looks and accent and no consideration for his acting, which was only his average, not exceptional. One of the high points of the movie for me was seeing Selma Blair, who I have admittedly have a small crush on since I first saw her in Legally Blond. Though I thought that she did not have a large enough part in this movie to really judge her acting. The movie has a surprise ending, that actually caught me off guard, and that is a good thing in my opinion. All in all, this movie was worth watching and I felt that the money I spent was not wasted, but, don't watch this expecting to use your brain at all or you might be disappointed.
