Equestria Girls is a really good movie. I went into it a little apprehensive, as did the people I saw it with, and we all LOVED it. Like our one companion said, you can close your eyes and not be able to tell you're watching human beings rather than ponies. The basic storyline of Twilight Sparkle needing to go into the alternate world to retrieve her crown is believable enough considering this was made with little girls as the originally targeted audience. The songs, in my opinion, are overall better than the songs in the original cartoon. I don't like the songs in the cartoon, the movie had a couple good songs. It still teaches good values about friendship and good overcoming evil. I would also say this movie is appropriate for kids. There's one or 2 scenes that are a tad iffy, but compared to the other stuff out there, this is overall tame. The one star reviews this is getting are from people that were determined to hate it before they saw it. Those of us willing to keep an open mind will love and tolerate the crap out of all of you, even if you kill the spin off before it starts because you were determined to hate it since the moment you saw the trailer.

Well I just watched Equestria Girls and it was absolutely great! But I found some mistakes. There was a mess up with some of the parts in the Animation. The music turned out really nice and happy tune, it would want to make you stay In the movie longer .. And the jokes worked well and my theater laughed at most of the jokes! But I have some negative things to point out.. Most movie theaters put movie times at such bad times... I had to go to the movie at 9:30 am.! But to be honest it was kind of worth it! The plot is very interesting.. That's another thing that encourages you to stay! The plot twist and what the subject is about. The Beginning and Ending of the movie. Would really tell you in your mind " go watch that movie again! ",. But about the Animation.. It didn't look that good on a movie screen. It seemed a little fuzzy... They also remixed the theme song and it sounded really great! I was at a theater at June 16 9:30 AM... So I hope you enjoy the movie and realize some mistakes so that way it won't mess up season 4! Bye! Feel free to email me at anytime if my opinion has some problems or you don't agree... Please do not report.. Just email me if your don't agree Princessmiomoracadenza@hot-mail

I tried to find a rating or review before we went to see this and I was sorely disappointed to find a bunch of bad reviews, but they were all coming from adults. I wanted to know if this would be OK for my children to watch. So here is a review from a MOM. My girls liked this movie, and I didn't feel bad about taking them. I didn't feel like I had to hide their eyes at any point, or remove them from the theater. Yes they had somewhat skimpy clothes, and Applejack straddling a chair in a skirt was a little over the top(nothing obviously showing), and that is why I knocked off a star, but I come from the 80's gen that grew up with Barbie and Jem in short skirts, and Teela and She-ra running around in cheek hugging bathing suits, and I turned out to be a fairly conservative parent. It was a genuinely good for kids kind of movie though, and taught about friendship, dealt with bullying(and standing up to one), and good overcoming bad. Being a parent does require being involved and talking about these things, and I'd say seeing this movie is a good segue into talking about these things to young girls. The 'scary' part didn't frighten my four year old either. Short skirts(not even too short) and all, I WOULD take my young girls to see it again, and possibly purchase it once it is released. So if you are on the fence about whether or not to take your daughter, I would give this movie a G for great!

I been waiting since Winter for this movie to show up. And that was worth it. Twilight's crown is stolen by the unicorn villain Sunset Shimmer that runs to another dimension with Twilght behind. The unicorn pony with a new set of wings ends up as a human, and Spike as a dog in that dimension where she goes to school with other humans including her humanized friends. Now the youthful girls must save the human dimension and Equestria too from Sunset Shimmer. The villain survives after the fight for the crown after trying to get her army to invade Equestria including human Snips and Snails. Now look out for Sunset Shimmer that might return in Season 4 after she must clean up the mess after thefinal fight. Highly recommended. And look out for the reviews and comments on Youtube about this movie I guess there will be much more lets watches as summer ends.

Some shows fit as movies, like Firefly. Some shows on the other hand will never make good movies… unless it deviates from the show entirely. Because some of them are too complex and convoluted, like Game of Thrones, while other are the exact opposite: simple shows, which you do not watch for the plot. That is where we encounter the first hurdle. Equestria Girls does not deviate from the show. It looks and feels like a bad pilot episode of a bad show… and they generally do not premiere in cinemas. Equestria Girls disregards the strengths of the show: humans instead of ponies, generic high school setting instead of an interesting magical pony land and a bitch that is mean to everyone but obviously will be put back in line by Twilight Sparkle… instead of having none of that. The movie is so predictable, it hurts. Apropos generic: Twilight Sparkle meets a boy who wears a black sports jacket, is athletic and plays the electric guitar like Jimi Henrix and is the antagonist's ex. And that is that. There are a few songs featured in Equestria Girls, not unlike the show. These songs are quite different though. Techno and Pop has taken a hold of the score and it sounds like generic radio music. While the songs in "Friendship is Magic" were a part of an actual scene, they now seem randomly placed, just for the sake of it. Friendship is Magic is animated with Flash and so is this movie. Unfortunately the humans look very stiff and unnatural. The movement of the humans appears choppy, almost as if they skipped frames, which would not surprise me. Lauren Faust's style of the show doesn't fit humans, and they look awkward. Probably, because no humans where originally planned. One thing that bothered me from day one was the human counterparts of the ponies. It is as if someone (who never even watched "Friendship is Magic") designed them over a weekend, and a colorblind person at that who had no idea how to blend and mix colors. Color theory, what sorcery is this? Firstly, they deiced to color the skin of the humans like the coat of the ponies. Twilight Sparkle has purple skin, Pinkie Pie is pink and Rainbow Dash is blue. It works for the ponies, but not for the humans. The colors clash like the titans did 1981 and it is not a pretty sight. But how else should we know what human is representing what pony, right…? There are also small things like every one of the six girls are basically wearing the same things: knee high boots and skirts. Someone truly did an amazing copy paste job, efficiency at its best. Or an insult to Lauren Faust's original and varied design of the ponies. Like the show, the movie was made for girls, but the quality is lacking. It is a badly written mess with lackluster animation quality and laughable design. Equestria Girls is without a doubt the Phantom Menace of My Little Pony. AVOID

I'll keep this short, because I don't want to spend more time on this movie than absolutely necessary. The movie had 5 minutes of ponies talking, 1 hour of "High School Musical"-style filler, 5 minutes of antagonist revelation and fighting, 10 minutes of ponies talking, credits. There's nothing good I can say about this movie. It is horrible that Hasbro thought this may be a good idea. It is similar to the last episode of Season 3 of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series, where a story line that could have spanned five or more episodes was squashed into a single 22 minute episode. It seems that with Lauren Faust's creative input missing from the team, they are moving back to outdated stereotypes that should have been eradicated from popular media a long time ago. The "humans" in the movie looked to be anorexic or bulimic and had about the same appeal to me that the creatures of Monsters High had. i.e. none. I would not watch this with my kids even if I got paid to do so. It gives children the wrong impression of what they need to look like. It is as disturbing as the photo-shopping of models to make them look thin when they're already deathly thin to begin with. The story was non-existent, the situations in the movie seemed to be carbon copies of situations from the first three seasons of the series, and there was little to nothing in the movie that had any worth whatsoever.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is in my opinion one of the best animated shows in recent years, so that in itself was reason enough to see My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. It is just really sad however that was so good about the show would turn out to be the complete opposite in the movie(non-US viewers can see the whole thing on Youtube, providing of course that it stays up), which I found to be a huge disappointment all round. The animation had flat colours and rather robotic character designs, a big contrast to the vibrant and rounded animation that the show had, the latter of which was much more appealing. The characters also were not just robotic but also anaemic, I am almost certain that parents especially- some people have mentioned it already- will have a field day saying how bad a message it is for girls, I'm not personally going to spout that but people will find it a problem. The music is just as disappointing, dull and forgettable rather than whimsical. And the songs made for painful listening, I wasn't a big fan of the songs in the original 80s movie but even they weren't as bad as the ones here, though arguably the songs here are sung better but not by much. These songs are not catchy in the slightest, the melodies have no energy or distinction and while it may not be the case I would be surprised if anybody after watching the movie could remember a single lyric or note. The dialogue sounds tired and too high-school cliché-sounding, any attempts to be witty or funny came across as forced and any sweet moments were mawkish. There are references to the show but they were for me clumsily handled and they were as true to the show the movie gets. Even though the movie is short, because the story is so paper thin(25 minute episode quality with lots of filler in a film over twice as long!), completely lacking in any originality of its own and too padded out it feels much longer, I also felt sometimes as though I was being talked down to and I don't like that. The way the characters were handled was disappointing too, their distinct likable personalities were one of the best things about the show but here their personalities are shallow at best and non-existent at worst, consequently it was very difficult to get properly invested in them. We have a very talented voice cast here, Tara Strong being the most prolific and recognisable, and they do their best but their material is beneath them to the extent I found they were wasted. Overall, a huge disappointment, doesn't stop me from being a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic but this movie does not do one of the best animated shows in recent years justice. 1/10 Bethany Cox

I was like all the people who think, a little-girls-pony-cartoon-stuff, why everybody speaks of this? and after watch the first to episodes i understand it all. IT'S AWESOME....but as usual with every pony fan (or bronies, brother pony) appears two or more people who thinks the opposite. After watch the movie my toughs and doubts just changed and i was agreed with the final result. It was like the Simpsons movie...a better, 90 minutes episode of the show on 3D or High Definition stuff. And i have to admit, i underestimated the movie, fun everywhere and must of all, its a fandom message, if you like the movie, wait for the 4th season. A kind of fast-slow motion actions about key moments, surprises, funny moments, double sense jokes (if you are over 16 you get them). 8 dlls that really worth it. And if someone read this and its not a fan, just give it a chance and maybe you will like it.

First off, I enjoyed the beginning of the movie where they're still ponies. I like how it picks up right after season 3 ended. Its a great set up but then it shows its true colors, and that would be a movie designed to rival with the Bratz Monster High doll collection. The legs are three-fourths of their body. They ALL wear short skirts and knee-high hooker boots. It only worked for Apple Jack because she would wear cowgirl boots but a skirt? No she'd wear denim shorts or jeans. Rainbow Dash especially was reduced to playing soccer in a skirt. We get it Hasbro, they're girls but they don't all have to dress that way. The skin doesn't bother me just because it eliminates racist thoughts. In Equestria, fur color was never meant to show race. They're all different colors. However, Rarity and Sweetie-Bell look like corpses. I liked seeing all the ponies from the show shown as humans, even though their design overall was done in a much more mediocre way than what I've seen from the fandom. Other issues that really bothered me was the cliché high school drama, which is what turned me off in the first place. The antagonist uses cell phones to cyber bully Twilight, which is far from what I expect from this show. The love-at first sight had my eyes rolling like many other things. Some of the characters don't seem to be "in-character" such as Fluttershy. There's no ways she would break out into song in front of the entire school. I had to skip through some of the songs, which I've never had to do for the TV show. The big turn off was Sunset Shimmer setting out to rule the high school. Really, being princess of the high school, that's just lame! Like it or not this movie was made to sell creepy humanized pony dolls, which will fail in my opinion. Hopefully season four of the show will get it back on the horse.
