As a professional tour guide I think the movie is a very close approach to the real tour experience dealing with all kind of people, problems on the road, hotel reservations, personal matters, etc. I enjoyed watching the movie and I recommend it to all my colleagues and future tour guides.I am planning using the movie to take a test to my students by watching the movie and getting important lessons about guiding and dealing with people. As many other professions, the key is to enjoy what you do, to suit the peoples's interests to the tour script and make traveling a wonderful experience beyond cold facts. Actors did not get any Oscar, but they did a fine job and gave us a fun time, specially to the ones that know the "language" of tourism.

It's a pity Sir Y couldn't enjoy a minute of this sweet, romantic, silly tale. I was shocked reading his description of his unsatisfactory (to say the least!) experience watching "My Life in Ruins." Boy! Going to the dentist sounds like way more fun that the 90 minutes Sir Yesterday had sitting in the movie theatre. It was sad reading! It is a shame that he couldn't use this fun summer film as a "how to" and learned, his own uptight self, to lighten up! Poor Sir Y - he must have lost HIS kevi! And what a childish and crude Summary Title he selected. Tsk. Tsk. How about those fabulous Greek vistas? The sound of the wind whipping through the temple columns? The sparks of romance? Only a sourpuss could not enjoy this movie.

I absolutely love this movie. If you loved My big fat Greek weeding, you will love this movie. If you don't, you will love it , too. Vardalos ' charme is undeniable and at it's peak, and even though you may find that some jokes fall flat, it will give you all the excitement and entertainment you'd expect from a class A-Hollywood comedy, that delivers on all levels.

This movie is sweet, funny, and special. They took a simple storyline and made it hilarious with unique characters and a great cast.

Disappointing watch. Not much heart in film. Superficial. The tourists were all played very silly and unrealistic. Americans looked awful along w/ the other nationalities. Minimal scenery. Why not shoot in the islands like Rick Steves and Top Travel? Skip this one. Characters weak. Plot weak and predictable. Also lots of foul sex references including awful and uninspired post (tour) group sex scene where all the hotel doors open and they are gloating about their stupidity.

Nia Vardalos, who you might remember from My Big Fat Greek Wedding is in her new movie My Life in Ruins. She plays Georgia, a travel guide who does a tour group around Greece. In this movie she is having to compete against Alistair McGowan (Nico) who is always getting the better group, better bus, and better accommodations in the touring of Greece. When faced with a difficult group Richard Dreyfuss (Irv) helps her out and shows her how to have fun more than be professional about her job. The movie also stars Alexis Georgoulis, Alexis Georgoulis, Rachel Dratch, and Caroline Goodall. Vardalos does a great job in her role in this movie along with the other main actors portraying their parts. If you liked her in my Big Fat Greek Wedding I'm sure you'll like this one too. The film was really funny. In keeping with Nia's focus on being Greek and single, this movie has an added angle that her other films don't -- here she's an educated woman. WHY she's in Greece isn't clear, but she ends up taking a job as a tour guide for a female business owner who doesn't like her and plots with other agents to get her to quit.
How Nia doesn't see this and why she stays are obvious questions, but she's soon thrown off kilter by each of the characters riding the tour bus with her. (No Spoilers!)
There's a little love and a little drama. Sometimes Nia herself seems to be trying too hard, but that's actually in keeping with her character. She perhaps needs to stop throwing Ian Gomez into ALL her movies. It was cute in the first My Big Fat Greek Wedding and necessary in the sequel, but he doesn't really add anything special to the other movies.... It's probably nice to have one's husband on payroll, but it's probably healthier to let him get his own acting gigs.

I have no idea why this movie has received and is receiving such a bad rap. While no academy award contender or not on a "best list" column, this is an entertaining and fun film. Yes, predictable in parts and some stereotype characters, but so what? That's the fun of it. Nice to see some kind of old fashioned movie once in a while. A movie that doesn't resort to explosions, killings, car crashes and quick-cut editing. Good acting all around. Would have liked to have seen more of the tourists as they only have a few lines to establish their character, but they well with what they've been given. The scenery is breathtaking and is a "love letter" to Greece, although a lot of it was filmed in Spain. For a fun evening on a cold or rainy winter night, MY LIFE IN RUINS hits the spot. Don't listen to all the negativity.

For a romantic comedy it fits the bill, it has romance and it has comedy. Enjoyable characters and plenty happening throughout the film. Throw in a bit of Greek scenery and some Greek music and you have a very pleasant movie.
