This is a very good film, and not only for Babenco's fans. It's slow, but never boring, poetic, but never over-sentimental. It's a film that makes you think about life and death. I have no idea why it's rated so low. Willem Dafoe is amazing portraying a film director with cancer. Very natural, very realistic — I won't be surprised, if he gets a prize for this. You feel the despair. Nevertheless, the film never becomes depressing. On the contrary. Compared to other Babenco's films, this one has some very beautiful, inspirational moments. Recommend.

Beautiful farewell of a remarkable director reflection of his passions and dreams as well as body of work. Dafoe is astonishing as usual. Candido is a surprisingly effective devoted wife. Realistic, cynically funny, heart breaking and melancholic.

Diego is a film director very close to death, surrounded by people who are having a hard time dealing with his stormy state of mind. Chances are he won't survive, but if he does, that means he'll need to learn to live. The idea is even good, a tangle of feelings, random scenes to demonstrate the randomness, depth and complexity of the protagonism, as well as dramatizing our inner selves, but the execution sounded slow and discouraged, Babenco is divine, Willem Dafoe is wonderful, as always , but something was missing to connect me more intensely with the film and with Diego, regular, reasonable, or I was not inspired, willing and open to the diversity exposed in the film...
