Wong Kar Wai's English-language debut is a home run, thanks to his superior craft and thanks to the remarkable group of individuals he has brought together, from his star-studded cast to Ry Cooder on lead guitar and Darius Khondji as director of photography. Khondji is the lonesome lens man who made Pollack, Allen, Fincher, Boyle, Polanski, and Bertolucci look so fine, and he is at the top of his game as he makes Wong Kar Wai's trademark layered look shine like never before. Singer-songwriter Norah Jones' acting debut is impressive, as is Rachel Weisz' performance in the part of the Southern Belle, keeping the dialect coaches busy. Natalie Portman, cast against type, may be the prettiest face in Hollywood, but she tries very hard and, predictably, fails to come across as a trashy gambler. She even slips out of her fake accent twice: Once when she wakes up in bed with Norah Jones (understandable) and again when they split ("You're hopeless"). Similarly, Jude Law is unconvincing in the part of the philosophical bartender. I know everybody loves him, but I just don't see what they see. My money is on David Strathairn and his touching portrayal of Arnie, the quiet drunk. I wish they had kept his tab open a little longer and cut the lame Las Vegas leg of the script.

I admit that I would fast forward through the "artistic camera work" to get to the next part of dialog. I wasn't crazy about that camera work. However, the acting was really good. I have never seen Jude Law or David Straitharn give a bad performance. I've like them both for years. Rachel Weisz was good. I could have smacked her for parading herself in front of her estranged husband, Straitharn, just to show off. I didn't have much sympathy for Natalie Portman's character, which means she did job affectively. The best was Norah Jones' simple and natural acting talent. She was so believable, just like someone you may know in real life.

This movie is as sweet and gentle as a dreamy midnight slow song. It subtly touches the cords of your heart through the self-discovering journey that Elizabeth (Norah Jones) undertakes. Jude Law was an eye-candy as usual, and he'll never cease to strike you with his gentleness and natural flow of emotions throughout the few scenes he is in. David Strathairn, Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman have added artistic splendor to the movie with their small yet very touching roles. As for the ever-sweet Norah Jones, please stick to singing! Acting is certainly not for you. She has turned Elizabeth into a bland and emotionless character.

My Blueberry Nights is an OK movie starring Jude Law,Rachel Weisz,Natalie Portman,David Strathairn and Norah Jones who did an OK job since it's her first movie. Kar Wai Wong's direction is practically good. The problem is that i personally don't like this style of directing. It's to modern for my taste.Every city looks like Las Vegas.Too many light mixing if i can say it that way. The script,i think had some holes and was a bit childish. The storyline was original, more or less,'not' because it turn's out to be just another love movie,'yes' because it's not just another love movie until it comes close to the ending. Then you notice that it is. Anyway,i don't want to write a six page comment on a movie that wasn't made for something more than just fun,so i'm just gonna say that it's a fun movie that you wont regret watching if you don't expect it to be anything more!!!

I was surprised how such successful actors (Jude Law, Natalie Portman) could have take a role in such bad movie. The movie is very slow, the plot is predictable and bad acting by Norah Jones made me feel uneasy. The camera man used all the possible style tricks (slow motion, low light etc.) to create an ambient feeling, but that is done without clear vision about what this movie is about. The movie felt so pointless. I watched my clock only after twenty minutes and did so every ten minutes. I got perception that this movie was made because Norah Jones wanted to play an actor. Lesson learned was that do not ever go to see movie that has a signer as an actor. My disappointment was greatly elevated by the fact that this movie has somehow managed to get 7.5 points at IMDb. There seems to be lot of Norah Jones fans out there. And I like _good_ slow movies such as 25th Hour or Crash, but this was just a bad one.

His acting in this movie is great, Natalie is not bad too. Actually I like their accents. It may sound unlikely but I think I would act better than Norah did in this movie... She looks like... stone compared to the two actor and actress above. Anyway the song was great too. Another recognizable work of Wong Kar Wai, his way of storytelling and using colors are just like "In the mood for love" and "2046". I do prefer "2046" to the rest of his works though :). Sometimes his work can be quite nonsensical... I don't know what the stories behind his characters are... why would they leave and why should they be so... sentimental. But I do love the air in the movies, quiet, calm and yet touching. Actually... maybe it would be better for him to choose Asians to star in "My blueberry nights", their way of thinking is not so like American style...

It is always unique with wong kar wai's filmography. The wideshots, blurry backgrounds, counter stories. I have always said the interesting stories are always in front of our eyes we have have to look. Calming movie. Growth of a character from the bottom. How our life gets changed by the people we meet. Some mark their impression for life while other fade away much like the background.

I was really disappointed by this movie. Uninteresting conversations which had the intentions to deal about big things in life, but in fact came over to me very cheap. Also the images looked very cheap. It all looked like some extended commercial for the car Norah Jones and Jude Law. I hardly could see it out. The characters were not worked out, didn't convince me in any way. They even irritated me by the lines they were trying to get out of their mouths. Besides that the movie was very predictable, with the climax: a real "Hollywood ending". Also the music started to irritate me: starting up the same song for three times in a movie! For me there were a few positive points in the movie, some shots looked very nice, also cliché shots, but working: the traffic lights in the night wobbling in the wind on their lines, the shots of the metro, quite nice.
