Extremely bad script writing. If you were to insert yourself into the film directly, you would look at the people speaking and say to them "what's wrong with you? No one speaks or behaves like that."
The acting and the plot is very cringe-worthy.
The film is designed for the tourism industry. All smiles and a glorious fantasy world that does not exist.
Cheesy modern Greek pop songs are played in the movie that are not really popular at all among real Greek citizens.
The film does not reflect what is going on in Greece in modern times with the collapse of the Greek society and our landscapes being ravaged with climate change. Clearly, a perfectly designed veil is installed to make the Americans feel good. As a Greek, this is painful to watch, and is really an insult.
There are other ways to make a funny comedy based on the humor of the original, but this one involves the worst script writers that you can find. Comedic timing is pitiful. If Nia Vardalos thinks that this is a good film, then she is truly blind sighted. This is mostly a "hey, let's get the remaining gang back together and get a pay day with a new film since we've run out of money in our personal bank accounts."

Seriously do not waste your money seeing this in theaters. The jokes fall flat, the plot is extremely weak, and the editing is so uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, Nia Vardalos is one of the worst actors in this movie, and relying on better character actors like Andrea Martin does not save this film.
The climax where the reunion mixes with the wedding doesn't really make any sense and falls flat. Even the quest of getting her father's journal to his childhood friends seems so random, as if Nia just picked a random object from her father. There was no explanation even given to the friends as to why her father wanted them to have this journal. You can't even chalk it up to there being some magical, unspoken understanding. It's just an awkward moment,
Sad that the original movie is such a classic, and the sequels have been so terrible.

I saw MBFGW 1 with my wife. I thought it was a fun movie.
Story, actors, direction. All great. My wife saw MBFGW2.
She enjoyed it almost as much as MBFGW1.
But this one was a heartbreaking dissapointment for both of us.
Wait to stream it at home if you can help it. I'd like to say there was at least something redeeming about it, I really would. But I almost
feel sorry for the actors. Finding six hundred words to sink this movie is not something I can do without being hurtful. I won't do it. Since I'm not working at the moment I get to walk my dog about four times a day. What else. Oh. I watched the Laurel and Hardy movie--I'm over 600 words now.

I have read all the reviews about 'thin plot' and 'thin acting' - come on critics, get over yourselves!!! As far as I'm concerned, I go to movies to be entertained - and with this movie, I was thoroughly entertained. Yes, there were some 'thin' moments, but overall I found it charming.
So many people can relate to an aging parent going through memory loss; the dying wishes of a family member; a child flunking out because they party too much the 1st year away; learning late in life about dark secrets of the past. I think all of these things were handled in the movie with great respect. I think the director and actors did a great job in portraying these life situations.
In the audience, I saw smiles, I heard hearty laughter and I saw teary eyes - the true meter of movie entertainment.

T E R R I B L E. The whole time I just felt sooo bad for the actors, they didn't stand a chance with the terrible screen writing. Such a shame to leave this as the last movie. It was so hard to follow what was happening with the characters, I was laughing with my sister because at one point all of a sudden there was a wedding, then people where crying, then they were happy, someone else would come into the picture out of nowhere and another would be staring through a window for no reason whatsoever. Felt worse than those Christmas hallmark movies at some points 😭
Will forever remember the first and just have to forget the other two movies.
Beautiful scenery and childhood actors, but that was it.

Overall a very touching family movie. Perhaps the best one yet in my opinion. Being they were in beautiful Greece. Being they are Greeks it all made sense. I thought it was a loving tribute to the father's character and the family history. Even spiritual themes that they thread or try to thread throughout.
Where they struggle a bit perhaps is trying to please everyone, something all veteran comics should know can knew happen.
I personally like it the best out of three because of so much scenery of Greece and learning more about their culture.
The down side for reviewers and critics that lean on the cynical side and I certainly understand for sure is that it the film is overly ambitious in trying to please to many and plays it really safe with everybody loving each other. For mainstream family films that want to make loads of cash I totally understand. These kinds of reunion films are expensive and with all those SAG actors to pay....
But for those that love mainstream family comedy/dramas I don't think you will be let down.

I don't like writing negative reviews but I've seen many Hallmark and Lifetime movies (my wife made me) that were better than this. Even she admitted it was not good. The chemistry is just not there with many of the characters, and there are lots of characters. This leads to a lot of fractured scenes that were exacerbated by dialogue that someone thought was cleaver but it falls pretty flat most of the time. Almost cringeworthy. Only a few decent one-liners. Many scenes didn't look like they belonged in the movie or maybe they added/kept them into to make it a 90 minute movie. What was most confusing is that many scenes were thrown together and there wasn't any rhyme, reason or explanation other than to try to be (I don't even know what to say here). A lot of scenes just happened with no rational as to why things happened as they did. See this one at your own risk.

THE FIRST TIP FOR EVERYONE: IF YOU LIKE 'GREEK WEDDING' SERIES, DO NOT WATCH.
OK, first of all, I ditched the 3 thesis due in two weeks, to watched its pre-screen. Ended up feeling the movie drives me on rage, because it absolutely ruined the soft spot I had for this series.
Regardless this movie, the first movie was epic in my heart, the second one was OK. But this one is an absolute waste of time. The reason I liked this series before was large extent due to the Greek family portrayed aka Toula's family is got many similarities with my cultural background. Sometimes we felt annoyed for a big family, but we stick together, bare with each other, and solving problem together. I guess that's the reason this series left a soft spot in my heart. This time, Toula said the same words, but acting completely different from what she saying-Please don't get me wrong. Because the thing driven me rage in this movie was about Toula's mum. She was always one of the favourite character I Love from previous movies, Toula received so much support and love from her, but unbelievable thing is that Toula was not even actually cared about her mum a second in this movie. I did not understand why she would tell her mum her husband got a history with another women and had a kid she never knew that existed. WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO HER?? That was what I wanted to shout in the theatre, since in the beginning of the movie Toula said something like my mum just pretending like she is OK, she had a hard time because their dad passed away balabalabala, and than you just told her this???I honestly did not get it, and after that Toula just said to Nick: It's ok. I mean HOW COULD THAT BE OK??? If I am Toula...seriously I would immediately flight back to Chicago besides her mum, see, she is old, she showed the symptoms of dementia, she lost her husband, and now her husband got a kid with someone else but she did not know??You think for a old lady it will be OK??HOW?? The biggest problem about the movie is actually here: the writer actually trying to put every single flavour she thought about in the story, but it just made the plot pointless. The core idea about the movie is about family and tier, and this movie was dedicated to the actor of Toula's father. But how's it actually about her father? He just became the background, but the main story just bizarre, chaos, and bunch of strangers who suddenly becoming even more important than Toula's actual mother who was only, and needs her caring. Plus, as the main reason bought her to Greece, those old friends of her dad just appeared less than 5 mins than that's it?? OK Greek can be crowded, annoyed, passionate, wired, but what they cares about the most is their family. Thus, when Toula berried her dad in Greece without let her mum knew, I rage. When I saw Toula's mum upset but she did not doing anything, I rage. OK, the strangers I am talking about are actually related to her, that is the truth, but you can not just leaved the Greek mum who feed you, raised you, and support you every time from your stubborn dad along, but in the end of the movie says LET US PICK OUR MUM AND HAD A BIG FAMILY DINNER. For me its just waste of money to watch such things in my mid term, I have no idea what this movie tried to talking about. I loved the series always because Nia Vardalos, she got the energy I like, but this time the personality of Toula really pissed me off, the saddest pre-screen I ever watched.

This film was a lot of fun to watch. It wonderfully kept true to the spirit of the other two films....if you liked them you will enjoy this one! Ignore the naysayers unless your looking for a serious, realistic movie, this certainly is not that and never pretended to be.
Most of the same great characters return - such a great cast - and there are a few new ones. Unlike the prequels this one actually takes place on Greece. It's a mostly happy film with a little nostalgia thrown in. Crazy, cheesy, and funny. Not to be taken too seriously - it's cute and really makes me want to go to Greece.
What's not to like, it's a rom com - a rom com with heart.
