I was in florida recently I saw a copy of this movie for 5.99 the cover made it look terrible, dont get me wrong it is. Though i thought it would be funny terrible such as Gymkata, but this film was boring and just nothing happend. I might have to say the six bucks i payed for a movie i never heard of was too much.

That warning from the hick who picks up hitchhikers Wings Hauser and Lee Montgomery gives you an indication of the intelligence level of this trashy science fiction piece of schlock. It's obvious from the start that this will be an unlikable film pitying misguided city folk pitted up against redneck white trash who keep a confederate flag in their dive bar next to a factory where the two city boys discover a dead man. Getting some help from local sheriff Bo Hopkins, they realize that their up against more than just hateful critters of the lowest common human denominator. Reprehensible and impossible to suffer through, this is one of those films that I wish I could destroy from my DVD collection, but unfortunately, it's one of those collection compilations of public domain grind house trash that isn't worth the DVD cover it's binded in.

Sub-par, below mediocre. Strictly incompetent. There is nothing to recommend in this dog of a movie, save for a couple of decent actors like Bo Hopkins, Lee Montgomery and especially Jennifer Warren. But the writing is awful, the special effects are shoddy, and this is 99 minutes you'll never get back !!!

One of the biggests wastes of my time and money i've ever paid to rent, don't be fooled by the cover cause i thought it would be cool and interesting movie but it wasn't. It's about some city boys who's car breaks down and are in a southern town where suddenly everyone becomes Toxic-waste contaminated mutant zombie-like beings, There is no actual monster like on the video cover, i think this movie is almost as bad as " Manos: Hands of Fate" and this movie is boring to the max. You better " The Toxic Avenger" and " C.H.U.D" for better mutant movies. Zero Stars.

Take Dawn of the Dead, let the light hurt the eyes of the zombies so that all the action takes place in unsatisfying darkness, add stupid characters that keep putting themselves into unnecessary danger, and you have Night Shadows. I saw the movie under the title "Mutant" and for the most part regretted having rented the video. The movie, reminds me of Chud, except not as good (provided that you would even want to Chud good). Personally, I'm tired of "chemical waste makes monster" theme - so any movie with that focus has to be good to get my attention. This film is not good. Its not quite a total bomb either, it has some good scares, and one or two spots of worthy black humor. So after you've rented all the other good zombie-type movies, this one might be worth a look -- barely. Rated 3 on 1-10 scale

This was one of the worst movies I've ever had the misfortune to buy. I got a copy for $4.99 and feel I was ripped off! First of all, Mutant was filmed almost entirely in the dark. So for most of the film, you can barely see anything and you keep thinking, "Someone get a flashlight, please!" Then, the script was so awful that nothing happens for almost an hour and a half. You're just waiting for something to happen and it doesn't! Only in like the last ten minutes of the film do you get to see anything. Basically, the directing was awful, the script was awful, even the acting kind of sucked. The only good point was the monster makeup was great, but you barely got to see it. This movie had the potential to be a great horror film, but failed miserably.

Well I've been watching horror films since I was eight years old and it has been 24 years of watching horror films. This film deserves all the credit for the excellent zombie effects and make-up by Paul Stewart, and excellent suspenseful music by the legendary Richard Band. A good story and script overall by John C. Kruize. Direction is decent by John "Budd" Cardos who replaced Mark Rosman as director. Outstanding cinematography by Alfred Taylor. The plot is this: two brothers, Josh and Mike, go to a small southern town for a vacation. On the road while driving, they almost crash into the pick-up truck of one of the local troublemaker. In retaliation he forces Josh to crash land his car into a small swamp. After that Josh and Mike are forced to walk into town for help. It is night when they arrive into town. Mike notices a drunk coming out of a tavern and disappearing to relieve himself. He hears a scream coming from the drunk and rushes to the scene only to find the drunk horribly disfigured and mutilated. The rush into the tavern where they again re-encounter the local troublemaker who attacks Mike and stabs him in the arm. Mike is rescued by Sheriff Will Stewart. Sheriff Will Stewart takes Mike to the local clinic to treat his wounded arm. The Sheriff tells Josh and Mike to leave town, but is advised by the Dr. Myra Tate the local physician to let Mike recuperate from his injuries for a day or so. So Mike and Josh are advised to stay at the house of an elderly lady for a day or so. They arrive a the house and the old woman offers them two rooms in which to stay as long as they want. The next day Mike mysteriously vanishes..... What happens next has to be seen. I won't give away any more of the plot as it is a suspenseful horror film. The most notable actors in the film are Bo Hopkins who plays Sheriff Will Stewart and Wings Hauser who plays Josh Cameron. P.S. If George Romero had been involved in this project along with some more professional special effects man like Tom Savini, this could have been the best horror film of that year. Overall I give it 8/10.

NIGHT SHADOWS was infact a creepy little film it was kind of like that other film THE DARK. NIGHT SHADOWS (MUTANT) could be a long-awaited sequel to that film. Well unfornatly this is an Edward L. Montoro production in this case I had a feeling it was going to be a fraud he dose this with every film he makes and gets a law-suit filed againist him inculding GREAT WHITE (1980) BEYOND THE DOOR (1974) and THE DARK which was not pulled like his other movies. He also had a suit with William Girdler over DAY OF THE ANIMALS and GRIZZLY for profits. Well even though this movie was a Montoro production I still enjoyed it. It was okay. Especailly the mutants taking over the people of a small town and John Cardlos direction. Montoro later in 1985 went to produce GRIZZLY II THE PREDATOR and released in 1986. His law-suits over the years was still effective aganist him he left the country in 1987 and was never seen again.
