Since I enjoy Jane Austen movies, I eagerly waited for this film to be released. It was everything that I hoped it would be: an enjoyable story in a different era of respect and courtesy, before the hustle/bustle of modern technology. I liked it so much that thought of going back the next day to see it again! In the same way that my friends enjoy superhero movies, I can enjoy a movie that is not 100% real-life accurate (Spiderman is not historically accurate, but we enjoy it, right?).
All of the characters added something to the film. I enjoyed Malcom's mom and her words of wisdom. I found Malcom endearing as a man who can be introverted/contemplative and wants a sincere and intelligent bride. My favorite character was Selina; she was a good role model in that she was very kind, but repeatedly stood up for herself and did not let anyone disrespect her. It was nice to see the strength and healthy boundaries that she found in the end. I have had friends like Julia, so it felt vicariously rewarding to see Selina put her in her place.
Overall, it's a cute story. If you are looking for a nice afternoon out and can enjoy yourself with a film of mostly respectful people who find their way in the end, then you will like it!

I l loved the costumes, cinematography and the acting was good but thought the casting was a stretch.
I really felt like Mr Malcom's List was a culmination of movie themes from all of the above mentioned films.
Not an Oscar contender but otherwise.

Love, friendship, betrayal and personal growth - it's all here wound in a web of fun - absolutely loved this Regency era Romance - Brings us back to what we look for deep down in our heart of hearts - sincere love just for who we are and it is a beautiful discovery
Please note the picturesque Irish countryside musical score is lovely and played in my head for days and don't miss the quirky artwork - a little like news reports in that era - both during the film and during the end credits.
To anyone who criticises it - Bah Humbug!

Ok, so the first few minutes has a scene with two young actors; the acting is horrible and I was worried the whole movie would be the same quality. It wasn't! The acting was superb and I just loved it. I was so surprised at how well the story was relayed and how some modern themes did not detract from the historical setting.

Oh dear. This was not good at all and I will basically watch anything that's a period drama. The casting is awful. The script is diabolical. I must admit I'm struggling with the politically correct rewriting of British history. Also why is the main heroine pregnant?? I'd advise giving this on a miss.

This was a gem of a movie. It was a classic regency romance. Sope Dirisu is a perfect leading man with his talent and that winning smile. Freida Pinto was divine and Zawe Ashton was superb. I don't get the bad reviews. I'm very happy to see a beautiful diverse romance. I've watched many period pieces and this is now a favorite. Bravo! More please!

I have changed my original rating of 6 to 5, I hate to down grade films with a diverse cast, but surely there are important, authentic, diverse stories that should be told, based on literature and history of the non-Western world. I absolutely hate this type of story, trying to rewrite history, when it wasn't true.
Please make films that are not based on White people's experience but reflects the nobility of African/Asian experiences because there are those stories, this is really lazy.
The new thing of re-doing English period pieces with woke casting is a waste of opportunity and resources. These type of films are so fake.
Among other things, Zawe Ashton character is mostly unpleasant, interesting that the Black girl is the mean one. Even when they try to be diverse, they still have racial troupe's about Black women...very interesting.

Ignore the people complaining about the race of the actors. It's a simple but well done Victorian romance. Mostly predictable but thoroughly enjoyable.
As for the race issue, the actors were clearly chosen for their acting abilities, not for a homogeny of skin tones. And the actors, up and down the cast, are superb.

I loved the characters. They were adorable. Definitely appreciated Sope and all that! He's gonna be popular! Very nice to see Theo James as well. It's my first time seeing Zawe acting and she was very funny. Overall a cute film. It gave what it was supposed to give.

Is this what Theo James went to instead of doing a second season of Sandition?! What was he thinking!!??? Crazy! SMH.
That show was a ton better than this was!
