Where to begin with Mansquito? How about "4 hours of crap in a 1 and a half hour bag?" Even if that doesn't make any sense, it's pretty accurate for the movie. My theory is that the Director's Cut of this wonderful film will make so much more sense because the original movie was so long all of the "good scenes" were removed to fit it in its two hour with commercial slot. Questions like "Why does the Mansquito kill?" "Why were scientists making a serum that would turn people into giant mosquitoes?" and "How did the Mansquito's tiny little wings get him air born?" I think the biggest question I had was why they killed the young hot chick and left the "aging beauty" to be the eye candy of the movie, but I digress. In a nutshell, this was a movie about a criminal who gets turned into a giant bug and has the power to make people not run away or even move while he kills them to drink their precious lifeblood. Corin Nemec, of Parker Lewis fame, is the "hero" of the movie, whose girlfriend or wife or mistress or whatever also starts turning into a giant bug. Apparently Parker Lewis CAN lose. Through the course of the movie, Nemec solves the mystery and ends up being completely worthless as his woman ends up saving the day by frying herself and the Mansquito in one fell swoop. See, I thought we'd already established that "giant insects" can't scientifically exist because of the way they breathe through holes in their exoskeleton that, if they were large enough, would make them incredibly structurally unsound. This movie is the reason I don't watch "Sci-Fi originals" ever.

This is an awful film. There is very little that is at all appealing for this movie, but if you are willing to take a film and create a drinking game to it, this has fantastic possibilities. The most interesting part is that the back of the DVD suggests that there is a completely different plot than the film in fact creates. Not even close. There is some crazy killing and highly humorous activity that ends in a highly disappointing way. The only real complaint for a person that is ready for unintentional humor is how we are mislead. This movie is worth watching, but for only the rare few that are willing to take a punch to the mouth and accept the craziness. Watch it with absurd expectations.

Attempting to cure a deadly disease, a scientists' efforts to release it are stagnated when an escaped convicts' accidental exposure to the cure results in being mutated into a vicious mosquito/human monster and forces her policeman boyfriend to stop his rampage.
This one here wasn't all that bad of a cheesy creature feature. Among the better parts here is the fact that this is another film that's inspired by the headlines of the times, as the West Nile virus was a very real threat at that time. The opening stages of the film use the threat nicely and integrate it with the rest of the film since the search to find a cure is a common theme found in similar movies, and the current issue being dealt with is a great way of staying in touch with what's going on. It makes it more than just a simple monster-on-the-loose movie and gives this something that holds it up enough while those particular elements are where this one gets going rather nicely. Though held to a minimum, the film does manage to contain some solid creature interactions here with the different attacks on the lonely victims around the city, the big massacre at the underground sewers and a fine encounter at a closed dance club all being rather enjoyable scenes which is all aided along rather nicely by the incredibly high body-count being disposed of in pretty gory ways. There isn't as much blood-splatter as others, but it's certainly graphic enough in its kills. Though these are fun, the film doesn't get really action-packed until the ending attack in the hospital which has so many fun moments with the creature appearing and taking out the guards outside, the multitude of gunfights with the security forces storming in several different groups and then finally going back into the subway brawl last piece here that is quite action-filled, with lots of deaths, blood and even some stalking scene thrown in for a great finish. Along with the fact that the creature is actually nicely designed as well and scores major points for not being a CGI creation, these here are the film's best parts. There are a few flaws here which mainly consists of the implausibility of the story. There's almost nothing here about the change-over into his becoming a mosquito specifically as there's little here to specify whether the insect was needed here. It seems rather odd why that creature became created, and even more troubling here is how the conception of the creature came about as the fact that the mosquito is the creature becomes rather dubious. As well, there's also the fact that there's a distinct cheapness to it all that really stands out here, from the low-rent transformation effects to the CGI for the creatures' final flying stage and the absolutely lame and mediocre gore effects which are simply bland stabbings or impalings for the part all of which bring up the film's rather cheap look. Otherwise, these are all that's wrong with it.
Rated R: Graphic Violence, Language and a clothed sex scene.

i just saw this movie on DVD but the title was mosquito man. i like the title listed here of mansquito much better. but no matter the title, the movie was worth watching.
this movie is an updated version of the fly with a sexy woman standing in for jeff goldblum, a trade i'd make any day! corin nemec was good on stargate and i liked him in this. everyone involved in the movie gave it there all. mosquito man was not a regular 'cheapie' as someone else called it. they seemed to be into this movie and really be trying to make something to remind us of the types of movies we grew up with 20 years ago. i like that.
a horror fan should be happy that people are out there willing to make movies called mosquito man or mansquito! watching a movie like this is a fun way to unwind after a long day of work. good job!

Creepy looking convict gets some genetic engineering stuff on his hand and rapidly morphs into an even creepier looking creature. Mansquito is outrageous, but actually gets in a few scares on you. Watching that thing drink is pretty gross, what with blood being the implied soft drink of choice.
He starts finding victims immediately, some at random, others for revenge. He takes particular interest in seeking out a female doctor at the genetic engineering lab, who herself may be contaminated with the stuff. You suspect this because she starts liking sugar and raw meat. Plus, she gets a bad case of "red-eye."
Enter the stock plot coincidences. The aforementioned doctor is romantically involved with the only cop who seems able to figure out the horrible truth about the rampaging mansquito. A predictable finale that you see coming for about half the movie is delayed for the usual routine of an unending stream of trigger-happy cops taking turns futilely shooting at the armor-plated beast, with the obvious results. You won't believe the venue they choose for this high-body-count carnage.
Not bad, for a Sci Fi channel low rent quickie. A few scares, a few laughs, and good fun. Just remember to turn your brain off before viewing this.

A convicted killer gets exposed to an experimental serum that causes him to mutate into a lethal and predatory humanoid mosquito mutant that goes on a bloodthirsty rampage. Director Tibor Takacs keeps the entertainingly inane story moving along at a brisk place, stages the attack scenes with flair, delivers a few nice bits of gore, and, best of all, treats the gloriously ludicrous premise with jaw-dropping seriousness. Corin Nemec plays the rugged detective hero with admirable sincerity. The foxy Musetta Vander likewise does well as the infected Dr. Jennifer Allen. While the cheap and chintzy (not so) special CGI effects leave something to be desired, the funky guy-in-a-rubber-suit monster possess a certain gnarly old school practical appeal. Kudos are also in order for Emil Topuzov's slick cinematography and the rousing score by Joseph Conlan and Sophie Morizet. A fun little Grade B beast bash.

Mansquito is what it is. It's a cool and imaginative film that is just fun to watch. That's how most B-movies are. It isn't a masterpiece, but it isn't garbage either. I thought the costume was very well made and looked exactly how every mansquito should. This movie is full of blood and gore which looks pretty realistic, especially for a B-movie. The idea of the mansquito wanting to mate with the detective's 'womansquito' girlfriend was intense. The film had a satisfying tragic ending with a thought provoking last narration quote: "In the end I lost everything I ever cared about. The only girl I ever loved died saving us all. But as with every ending... There is always a new beginning." It's deep and makes absolutely perfect sense if you think about it. Mansquito is just a good old fun film.

Mansquito(or Mosquito Man) was a little better than I expected, but that's not saying much. It is surprisingly not bad on a visual front, with good photography and nice locations, and the music at times was spookily atmospheric. Plus the ending was the best part of the film, very effective. What let Mansquito down though was a fair number of things. I have seen worse special effects, but they are still rather cheap and not very well-utilised with the mosquitoes not menacing enough. The script is of the cheesy and stilted kind and the story apart from some spark at the end never really engaged me, coming across as dull, predictable and especially with the male mosquitoes ridiculous. I probably would have had a stronger impression of Mansquito if the beginning had been promising, but viewing so many obvious mistakes in one scene really hindered that. The characters didn't come across as very likable either, not as stereotypical as I have seen characters other movies of the genre before but annoying and underdeveloped, and the acting is really quite poor. Overall, could've been much worse, but Mansquito bugged me too much for me to properly enjoy it. 4/10 Bethany Cox

This movie is a Sci-fi channel original movie which I've never seen before. It's not bad for a "monster movie." I liked all the special effects that were in the movie. It didn't have a lot of named stars so nobody really stuck out! I did like the fact the monster was a convicted killer on death row. At first nobody can figure out who's killing the people until the cops put two and two together to figure it out! Sci-Fi channel really hyped this one up so much I had to see what all the fuss was all about. I'm glad I did. If you like a good old-fashioned monster movie, then you should like this one! My vote is 7 out of 10! Way to go Sci-Fi channel!!

What a mess! And a boring mess at that. I am watching Mansquito now. I have no fear of including spoilers because I am probably not going to keep watching. The production values are okay, the acting overall is sturdy enough, but there is just too much wrong; and it is indeed boring. It is one of those films that feels longer than it is. The plot breaks out of the current, dull-witted, science fiction film formula slightly; but it does not generate real excitement, or any sense of identity with the characters. They are merely cardboard cutouts bouncing bullets off a beefy bug.
First, the Mansquito is a male; armor-plated, and he only has four legs. There is a woman "becoming" a "Womansquito"?, "Babesquito"? but the male steals the show here. Even stretching a point, most people, except the director, know quite well that the male of the mosquito does not feed on blood. I just cannot get past that. It should have been a "Womansquito" for sure. Then I would have been properly terrified.
The film also relies too heavily upon the Mansquito's killing spree, and the carnage he leaves in his wake; too many bodies sacrificed with too great an ease. There is just too much violence upon human 'skeeter fodder, and too little atmosphere, for my sensibilities. I have ended up not caring what happens in this muddled moulting of a movie. I believe that buried somewhere in the director's vision for the film is the aborted concept of a Greek tragedy. But it never quite breaks the surface tension to create the bathos that such drama should. So if you choose to watch this agony, break out the Deet and some good beer.
