Annoying acting, annoying script. The character played by Rachel McAdams was so hyper and annoying - hyper-annoying indeed! All of them in fact... Mr Ford was bland, playing typical grumpy old man, Ms Keaton played typical role for her in last decade (what happened to this talented and versatile woman I wonder...)
Story was predictable and guess what - boring. We've seen it thousand times before. The only bearable moments were those with Patrick Wilson just because he looks good, not that he had something to do in this movie.
I don't know if it had potential given the script and lead actress (sorry, but Rachel is awful when she tries to pull off the type of roles Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts shine (shined) in). Maybe as a pure drama this movie could be good, but it ended as a poor dramady.

I can't believe with all the money they can throw at a film that THIS is the pitiful product. Everything about it is, really, quite terrible. The Sound Editor should be shot. The music is grating and rarely has anything to do with the emotions of the scene, also, is so loud that whatever "sparkling" dialog is totally lost. Miscast -- Rachel McAdams is annoying and should take voice lessons. Pretty though, in the Anne Hathaway mode. (Harrison Ford is right, her bangs ARE annoying). Harrison Ford was surprisingly inadequate for this. He was mostly sullen, without comedic timing. (a few times was funny). Diane Keaton, who I have come to like in her middle age (when she is not jumping up and down and screeching, which seems to be the norm these days for female happiness/delight) did the best she could. Banal plot (which I don't actually mind, but this was badly done) with no interesting sidekicks we care about, unlike "The Devil Wears Prada". I see this is the same screen writer who was responsible for TDWP which is hard to believe because that movie I have watched several times and it is one of those (mostly) flawless movies I watch with pleasure. Really -- you can skip this.

A fun movie, with good acting, many laughs, and unlike some of the silly write ups - it doesn't fall apart- it's good to the end. The audience was laughing. I was laughing. My friend, who didn't really want to see it, was laughing. The moral of the story is a real plus given the negative news of the day! God Bless everyone involved - thank you for your work. Geez, I have to have ten lines, okay. Well, to say a bit more...the lead is wonderful. Her comic timing is excellent. All the supporting actors were excellent. The story of a young woman working hard to make a position work is true to the generation of the 70's, 80's, 90's, and now 2000's. However, we so often see and hear about the whining, entitled bunch that seem to get so much attention, this film was refreshing.

MORNING GLORY – TRASH IT ( D ) Never imagine a day will come when I have to call Rachel McAdams's movie "Dreadful", but the day has come because Morning Glory was Dreadful. Morning Glory disappoints in story, maybe the makers were trying to bring Tina Fey's 30 Rock on Cellulite. Whatever they were thinking it fell flat. With atrocious loud performances, it was completely unbearable. I won't blame the actors, because they have proved themselves several times. It's all directors' fault to choose such story and have such terrible production value. The whole movie was too loud too fast, watching Rachel McAdams acting out of her zone was painful. It seemed she drank 3-4 red bull before filming every scene. She literally over doze every scene. Patrick Wilson is alright, he never got much chance anyway besides looking charming. As always recently, Dianne Keaton has over done it. Harrison Ford was good & rigid. Overall, it's too loud too fast to care about. Trash it!

I can understand when a single big name actor signs on to a dreadful movie for the sake of a paycheque. Why not? I do wonder, though, when three veteran and fairly big name actors do it. Harrison Ford? Diane Keaton? Jeff Goldblum? OK. I'm not huge fans of any of them and I've had mixed reactions to their work over the years, but I can't deny that they're pretty big names - and they signed on for this. Did they not read the script beforehand and realize how pathetic this was?
Rachel McAdams is the star of this as Becky Fuller, a young producer who gets a job putting out the worst morning show in the country on the fictional IBS network. Her challenge? Get the ratings up or the show is finished - and her along with it. She hires big name anchorman Mike Pomeroy (Ford) to give the show a degree of credibility (gravitas, as it's referred to at one point) only to find that he's a shallow and egotistical twit who won't do any of the things needed to make morning television work, and who makes his attitude toward the show and his co- workers quite clear. Keaton is his co-anchor, and Goldblum is head of the network's news department.
There's some humour in this - mostly provided by Ford, although at times I couldn't figure out if his deadpan approach and rather bored look throughout was his take on the character or his take on the movie as a whole. Goldblum's part wasn't a big one, but Keaton shared a bit in some of the humour with Ford, especially when the two took to insulting each other on the air, which did make me smile a little bit. But a bit of humour really doesn't save this. McAdams seemed to struggle valiantly with the role and attempted to inject a little bit of energy into it - which was desperately needed, because this is simply not an energetic movie. Like Pomeroy, it's shallow, it's dull and it's predictable. It's also rather hard to believe that in the space of just a few weeks, Becky goes from being fired as the producer of a local morning show, to being hired as producer of a network morning show to being offered a job with the Today Show. The writers also decided - for no apparent reason, except that it's apparently considered necessary in this kind of movie - to throw in a rather poorly developed romance for her which seemed to accomplish little except allowing her to shoot a couple of scenes in her underwear. Yeah. She's pretty cute. But that's certainly not enough to save this.
This truly isn't worth the effort of watching. (2/10)

In that time between summer blockbusters and the full-on Oscar blitz is time for Hollywood to take a breather. Sometimes the audience takes a breather too. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Here we meet Becky Fuller, trying to make the jump from local to network news show producer. She is put in charge of an ailing morning program, and when told that it is on its last leg, she takes the novel and bizarre step of forcing well-respected television journalist Mike Pomeroy into the co-host position via a quirk of his contract. and thus they are off toward saving the show... A plot like this doesn't really have much in the way of surprises. What really matters is how well the characters are written and how well the actors play their respective parts. While none of the cast is terrible, standing out are a low-key Jeff Goldblum, playing a cynical network executive. While an over stated, loud performance would have sufficed, Goldblum plays it a pragmatic working guy. He gets in a few good zingers early on though. The other standout is Harrison Ford. While he hasn't had much success in the field, he is actually very good at comedy usually playing the straight man to what is going on around him. Here he plays the gruffly lovable curmudgeon pretty well. A significant part of the the plot is his character's personal growth. On the whole, Morning Glory isn't going to sweep any of the major awards, but it's a gentle way to pass two hours and get a few good laughs in the process.

If not for Rachel McAdams always watchable enthusiasm, this movie would totally sink. I usually love her in anything she does but even she couldn't save this very strained very weak comedy. What a waste of a good cast. Harrison is just a terrible grumpy old man. What is he doing in this movie? Diane Keaton shouldn't have done such a shrill and desperate looking role - its beneath her stature. Patrick Wilson looks ill at ease.
The screenplay is just bad. The story is predictable and drawn out. After a few jokes in the beginning it's just downhill from there and there are so few laughs its almost hard to understand how they could make such movies.

This film is about a young executive producer's struggle to revive an unpopular morning show.
I thought "Morning Glory" is just another romantic comedy that happens to be set in a television setting, but it pleasantly surprised me. The plot in fact focuses a lot more on the stress and frustration of being an executive producer, with romance being sidelined as an almost dispensable subplot. The intensity of Becky's job is well portrayed, the two anchors' verbal wars and Mike's indifferent and selfish attitude all makes "Morning Glory" entertaining to watch. "Morning Glory" is a pleasant surprise!
