Although almost completely void of any special effects, this movie is saturated with auditory and visual aesthetics, which are mostly centered around night life, and viewed through the realistic perspective of a wide angle lens, that isn't shy of getting too close and personal.
Plot is original, enjoyable and entirely basic, with emphasis given to "enjoyable", there are no points of high tension, just different music tracks the characters seem to 'swim' through as if guiding the scene. In a very chill fashion, almost dream-like.
The character performance is incredibly realistic, bold, and does a great job in making you view the daily happenings of their extraordinary lives in their original points of view.
Overall, a very entertaining watch. And listen.

I didn't really know what to expect from Mona Lisa and the blood moon. I wasn't a huge fan of Ana lily Amirpour most known effort "A girl walks alone at night", I can barely remember seeing it, it didn't manage to leave any lasting impression. Luckily, it's the exact opposite with her latest movie. The narrative that she is able to create is one of lighthearted make believe and feverish dreams, barely stepping into a nightmarish territory just to sidestep without fumbling and losing a beat into a grotesque and surreal comedy. It never needs gore or any prurient sexualization of the characters that are so common in what is fed to the audience in the most boring products of today's cinema. It never feels heavily invested in social matters, while hitting all the right keys just with a light enough touch to be inevitably a creature of the current decade (in the way that highlights the lead female characters for example). Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon is the movie you don't expect and I can't help being so glad those, still exist.

His deal with Pizza Hut must include 4 XL pizzas per day. I half expected Bill Cosby to come out and say "Hey, Hey, Hey it's Fat Albert" every time Robinson appeared on screen.
Well shot movie. Not much of a plot. But this and Glass Onion prove that Kate Hudson still has talent and should be getting much better roles. Ageism in Hollywood towards females is awful. The best actresses in movies today tend to be over 40 yet struggle to find decent jobs. Kate Hudson is still gorgeous and shouldn't be relegated to lower tier movies.
The younger star of the movie has a good screen presence. Hope to see her again.

No pun intended - and I reckon those who have seen previous movies (or works) of the director will get the pun I am using. Also it is kind of true - unless you don't think she is walking .. in the end we are all alone though. Even if we have someone at our side. And I have to admit, Kate Hudson did surprise me as a *. While I knew she was playing that role (from the trailer), it still wasn't something I was used to see her in.
She did a good job with it - and the main character also is great to say the least. Now there are not many explanations (if any at all I reckon) - so we do not know why it happens now. So she wakes up and decides to ... use her powers? How did she know she had them? What does it do to her? And so many more things ... hey maybe there is a sequel (prequel) that gives us more ... maybe not of course. I am not going to hold my breath.
Acting is good and the music (rave to the grave you say) is amazing. The movie also makes it look so easy ... just going on a journey ... while being chased. Ain't no thing like a chicken wing - a new catchphrase some people will use I reckon. Do you believe in Karma? And how would you define it? Because Karma actually is not something that is active ... anyway, there are scenes here that will be too graphic for some sensitive viewers I imagine ... just be aware of that.
