Many movies follow a similar structure of a main character leaving a happy, comfortable life behind for suffering and trials in hopes of achieving their goals. But what happens when the life being lived is already the hell most people never have to endure? Marysville front loads its story with heartbreak, I'm talking real, kick in your gut sadness, and begs you to have hope that a cycle of anger, abuse, and hate can be broken in one generation. Deciding to produce an independent film is a big undertaking in its own right. But deciding to commit to a period piece is really something brave. It's done to great effect here. Somehow the filmmakers have found accurate locations, vehicles, and wardrobe for the time. The cinematography is solid. The score sounds like a full orchestra and it's as sweeping and engaging as any theatrical release. I have to recommend Maysville. It has great cast, production design, script, and don't forget an inspiring message we could all learn from.

Maysville is a great indie film with magnifiscent performances and wonderful music. A rewarding emotional journey from the beginning to the end. It makes you feel so many deep emotions. Director Goyette takes the story to a very high level in style and vision.

What a very well done film! In its opening sequence, I was reeled in to not only how beautiful the aesthetic of the film is, but how natural and talented the young actors are, particularly the lead. I repeated out loud to my friend that was watching with me, more than once, how surprisingly good the young actors were. We watch a ton of indie content and it's always hit-or-miss with young talent, often because people cast children they know (who most times are not actors) All that aside, the pacing of the movie is on point, and the score is great! It is obvious the film is directed with a confident hand because the music flows wonderfully. It doesn't come off as an afterthought but more like something that was integrated purposefully. I would definitely recommend this movie.

A really great film from beginning to end. An emotional journey about overcoming a tragedy, it was a great story with characters you pull for throughout. Well written with a wonderful cast, and just a beautifully rendered period piece. The fact they made it look so good and convincing on an indie budget is rather amazing. A sweet movie that makes you truly feel. I loved it.

Great screenplay, acting and music. The character development was solid, and the characters are very relatable. Touching film with plot twists will keep you engaged throughout. Bring the Kleenex you might need it. I recommend.

I have to admit, I'm a sucker for films set in 1920's and 30's USA and Maysville had me at hello. The story was interesting ant had some very interesting and unexpected plot twists. I was NOT expecting the ending. The whole cast was great but, for my money, Cheyenne Barton stole each of her scenes. The locations and settings were perfect and the emotional score was a standout. Overall, I'm amazed to see this level of production in a small indie with no big stars. I'll be watching this one again!!

I was blown away by Leslie Goyette's "Maysville." Goyette combines gorgeous cinematography, perfectly crafted compositions, and a stirring score, to tell a coming-of-age tale in 1920's Appalachia. A tragic accident sets up the narrative in the film's first act in this gripping drama, complete with a truly terrifying antagonist played by Brian Sutherland. As the young Teddy is forced out of his home and lives under the iron-clad rule of Buck Stamper (Sutherland), we see him grow up to be a strong-willed young man who goes by the name Theo (now played by Kevin Mayr). It should be noted what an exceptional feat for Goyette and team to have accomplished this vision, especially for a period film, on what supposedly was an indie budget. The blossoming romance between grown-up Theo and Elizabeth (a charming Cheyenne Barton) that then develops is heartwarming to watch. The final showdown between Theo and Buck in the film's climactic ending is well-earned and satisfying. I would highly, highly recommend this film!

From the first shot, you know this is going to be a beautiful film. Maysville sparkles. The cinematography is stellar, but this is an indie film and it's a period film, so how good could it possibly be? It looks like a Hallmark film, but this compelling story turns gritty quickly. Don't give up because things are about to change. Leslie Goyette is a triple-threat as writer, director, and producer. Her powerful script manages to compel us through the twists and turns of a heart-breaking tragedy, and move us on every level as it transfigures into hope, faith, and love. All of the cast is great, but Cheyenne Barton and Kevin Mayr are remarkable as they deliver wonderful, believable, and complex layers to this uplifting coming-of-age journey, and their chemistry is undeniable. The music lifts all of the emotions and hits all of the touchpoints. So how did they pull this off? Indie film, Period Film, Complex Story? I have no idea! But they did! Watch it and then watch it again. I did and it's even better the second time around!

Great film. In a small way it reminds me of Anne of Green Gables. Intense story and wonderful acting. Production was very clean and well done. I highly recommend this movie.

With indie films its a gamble because you never know what you're going to get. This film has the elements of a bigger budget drama with an interesting plot and characters and beautiful cinematography. Watch and be pleasantly surprised.
